Jim is a great banjo instructor who has the rare talent of creating a learning environment that makes his viewers excited to play. I picked up the banjo for the first time 8 months ago and learned how to play through Jim's beginner series. Been watching his videos and pickin ever since. Thanks Jim!

This is so great - first time I couldn't QUITE catch on to a part you explained by listening and watching, so I bought the tab :) I am so slow and inept working with tab, but this is a good excuse to learn a little. Such a catchy, fun, quirky tune. Thanks, Jim!

@@JimPankey - it was at about 8:44, when I was listening through my headset on my phone, I couldn't HEAR the 'five-THREE" (I heard the five, but the three kept sounding garbled) and got myself tangled up. When I listen through my laptop speaker, I hear it clearly now. That little funky-fun thing you do after the 3-0-2 lick is taking some brain rewiring! My fingers seem to think they know better sometimes. It was kind of fun to look at the tab too, which is rare for me to even do. But this time it helped me figure out that fun little 'turnaround' you do after the 3-0-2 lick. This is a very fun piece to learn! I confess I like it too because it doesn't 'pinky-challenge' me. Still in a battle of wits with that pinky finger of mine on other tunes :)

Great Jim I'm digging this sounds very familiar from somthing you /we've done many many many months back no been into my banjo recently as I've had to have couple of hearing 👂aids fitted due to tinnitus caused by a hearing incident so kinda lost my mojo for now but will definitely give this a go hopefully sooner than later . I save a few videos so apart from walking my dogs and trying to get my ears to sustain any further injury they will never mend now but have to try and soldier on I seem to be able to focus on your channel due to playing .breaking it down thanks for sharing and posting Jim your an inspiration thank you 👂🤕🤗 👍👏👏👏🏴🇬🇧

Hey Mr. Pankey, thanks for the tutorial. Do you think that you could do a tutorial on some of the more advanced backup techniques that weren't covered in your beginner backup series some time in the future?

Hey jim. I’m a young banjo player and I’m stuck in a slump. I’ve been playing for a year and I just can’t seem to make any more progress than where I’m at. I’ve learned the sally goodwin lick and have been able to incorporate in some songs like lonesome road blues and Mountain Dew. Any tips and tricks to start making progress again?

We all hit a plateau from time to time. Just change up your routine, maybe try something new. Spend a lot of time polishing what you know and playing along with recordings.
@colinmckay29643 жыл бұрын
I've also been learning for just under a year and have also hit a bit of a plateau. I have done exactly that. Gone back to the basics and polished it up a bit trying to play clearer and quicker. It has helped a bit. Quite encouraged that I picked up this tune relatively quickly. Thanks for the lessons Jim. I really enjoy your teaching style.
