Love this video Lisa! I can't stand the narrative that we "must" use so-called "dark" decks to read for shadow work. We must always start where we, or our querent, are, what our emotional state is in that moment. We don't ever talk about re-traumatization that can happen through using difficult, confronting or otherwise triggering imagery. Saying that it's not "real" shadow work unless there's something scary on the cards is utter nonsense and can end up being harmful. It can also keep us from getting the help, insights and loving support we may desperately need in that moment. If you think about the process of therapy or any kind of healing, you never go for the deepest wound first. It's important to start at the edges and build that inner strength and tolerance before moving closer to the deepest wounding. Start where you are, pick a deck that fits that place, and move slowly and gently. Also very important to say that insights are valuable, but the integration process and the self-care that must accompany it are just as important.

I could not agree more. my friend love shadowscapes for shadow work becuase she needs that softness. where as I prefer wild unknown for shadow work becuase I like the simple rawness. everyone's choices are valid because this work is so personal and we need the messages delivered in the best way we will accept them

I purposefully use bright and colorful decks for shadow work like Playful Heart or Monstarot. If I’m going to hear something pokey or triggering, I at least want to hear it from something soft and gentle.

That is such a good point that you don't have to use dark/intense decks for shadow work! I think that sometimes, using a cute/happy deck helps you tackle daunting topics easier. The flip side, is sometimes when you are being really ridiculous about your own stuff, having a dark/heavy deck to read with highlights how silly/over-dramatic you are being and helps you see that.

Definitely we don’t need to see dark imagery for doing shadow work.

So, so helpful. I’ve been really enjoying this series as hearing how you actively interpret the whole reading is so insightful, and so accessible. Thank you so much! I love the idea of using such a cute deck for shadow work to negate some of the fear, and I’d never really ‘got’ affirmation cards until seeing how you work with them. So helpful, thank you!

the cards in the first reading blew me away! In the Lovers card the 2 figures from card 1 and 2 basically show up together now. They have both entered the 3rd card. It's exactly the blue and white skinned figures from the first two cards and now they are offering each other the cups. Spooky and amazing!

Recently found your channel through Kyra, newish to Tarot and I'm finding your videos so helpful! I've been wondering why my "power" deck is so intimidating lately. It went from "you're a badass, you are powerful" to showing me all the darkest insecurities and fears. Suddenly I'm hiding from it and its because it is very confronting and I'm not feeling up to that level of challenge.

Ope that Debiant Moon is a call out deck, isn't it? Thank you for sharing your own reading. It was powerful. When I do fake readings to practice, I find a "read" for characters in books, tv series or movies is helpful as I can relate it back to something I know that isnt a real person but still has energy (a persona created by a real person). Do you have any tips for practice readings? Because yep, fake querents are hard and for me, often read coldly. (Yours did not btw). Wanting more practice and looking for more ideas beyond characters and reading for myself. This is a fabulous spread! Thank you for this video!

This is so incredibly helpful! This seems like such a gentle version of Shadow Work, or Intro to Shadow Work. I gave this spread a try as I watched the video and my reading resonated so much! I used my Happy Tarot and it didn't feel too overwhelming. I also pulled an Affirmators card because it's one of my favorites. I have always found it easier to do shadow work with a non-confrontational deck. My preferred shadow work deck is the Silhouettes Tarot, and I discovered the Mystical Moments Tarot is also great for it. For me personally, doing confrontational work with a confrontational deck is too much ;-)

I think you might have finally convinced me to give the Deviant Moon a try lollll. I didn’t think I’d ever use it to read with, but it worked soooooo well to pull out the shadow meanings in your example reading. And I didn’t know Affirmators had come out with a deluxe deck! Very exciting. Also, this is such a powerful little spread!

Ha Thank you for the dedication you put into your videos.🌟

It’s interesting that you bring up the difficulty of doing a “fake” reading. I do practice readings off and on and have a question in mind (or intention, like shadow work). I send that question or intention out into the universe while shuffling and read for a “real”person out there who may need it. Maybe the outcome of the reading comes to them as an inspiration for change or the next good step. The readings seem to hold together and have too much meaning not to apply to someone in the world.

Thank you so much for continuing this series as it is really helpful and expands my view on how to use the tarot. In regard to this particular spread I am not too sure about how to interpret the first card. I feel like if I get the first interpretation wrong, the whole reading goes down the drain. So here are my thoughts: The Hermit is someone who tries to reflect on their situation alone. Could the shadow here be that someone is not capable of being alone, because they always need attention? The Fool is someone who is carefree and optimistic. Could the shadow be that someone takes too many risks without thinking about consequences? And lastly, the King Of Wands is someone who is a natural leader. Could the shadow here be that someone is too bossy and doesn’t take care of other people‘s feelings? Maybe you can clarify how you came up with your interpretations of these cards, that would be super helpful. Thank you so much!
@Lisa_Papez2 жыл бұрын
I agree... you do need to pin down the first card to be able to get useful information out of the following cards. The reason the first card is difficult is that's the thing in your shadow you're trying to identify - the reason it's in the shadow is that it's hard for you to identify it. Definitely not pretending it's easy! :) The key to interpreting the first card (IMO) is to be as self-aware as possible. The Hermit can relate to a lot of different things that lurk in the shadow - in a more negative shadow, the hermit could relate to avoidance of others, hiding, escapism, lack of insight about self, lack of self-awareness, avoiding deeper internal looking/learning are all themes that come to mid. Neutral things could be natural introversion or desire for 'alone time' that is not being acknowledged, perhaps due to people pleasing tendencies or fear of letting others down or appearing selfish if you focus on yourself. Positive things hiding in shadow could be learning/knowledge that you don't give yourself credit for or not acknowledging the work... these are just a few examples. In general, my advice is to spend some time contemplating that first card and what it could represent *for you* as something that is difficult for you to admit/acknowledge and then go from there! :)
@Arignon2 жыл бұрын
@@Lisa_Papez Thank you so much for your comprehensive answer, Lisa! I understand that the first step is to be aware of what the particular card means to yourself and to go from there. I just thought that if you do a reading for another person, it is hard to spot their shadow correctly, but I guess you need to talk to them and try to figure out together what the card means exactly.
@Lisa_Papez2 жыл бұрын
If I were doing this reading for another than I'd trust what comes to me intuitively re the shadow of the 1st card .. but that is harder to quantify as it's more an energetic interpretation in that scenario. 💖
