I had thought Tibetan has the same SVO syntactic order as Chinese since both languages are in the Sino-Tibetan language family. But according to this tutorial, Tibetan has the same syntactic order as Japanese, i.e.: SOV.
@NagalandHH2 жыл бұрын
Has been adapted from Sanskrit (The script) and also has similarities to Hindi
@lepmuhangpaАй бұрын
Tibeto-Burman languages usually have SOV; It's not a Sanskrit-Influence. There hasn't been proper research conducted to know if Proto-sino-tibetan was indeed either SVO or SOV; As of yet, we don't know.

Yes you are right, Modern Tibetan (Lhasa dialect) and Balti have common origin, they both have descended from classical Tibetan but due to divergence in the last 1000 years Spoken Tibetan languages have evolved so much so that written and spoken don’t match, since Balti remained isolated it has retained near identical to classical Tibetan of 10century

Wow.. language in most part is quite same around Tibet and sourrounding places... it seems due to tone of prounciation the words became a little different in surrounding areas but about 80 percent same in pronounciation... Also after the written script came some words are added to make a written language possible .. bit different from original speaking ..
@madhavi1085 жыл бұрын
I’m grateful for this..but as a born English speaker, the “phonetic” transliteration bear little resemblance to the actual pronunciation. ( There are written letters that are not even pronounced ..for example). I overcome this confusion by listening to the Tibetan with my eyes closed. Again I am grateful for this..wondering if we could have a more phonetic transliteration in the future possibly? Thank you!

You should explain the English letters are a transcription and not an exact guide to pronunciation. I understand and can see and hear that the 'd' is not pronounced at the end of a word/syllable. I'm just learning but already I see this disconnect, maybe IPA would be helpful.. thanks

Because it ends in a vowel sound ( -i ) which transitions smoothly into the _voiced_ version of 'ch'; and the voiced version of 'ch' is _zh_ . This sound is not very common in English, but fortunately we do have it: mea s ure (meh zhr) deci s ion (dee sih zhn) etc.

I realize we have to be open to different pronuciations tham English...i study sanskrit too...the problem is that a lot of the transliterations don't look at all as they sound....d's at the end of a word would suggest some type of "d" sound whereas i don't hear that. Example: student transliterated slop t'hug...i hear absolutely no "s" Also the articles change but there's no mention as to why or how....i assume there are masculine & feminine nouns? But this is not a big complaint as i know that info will come in time
