Just a quick note that helped me, one thing that I was doing wrong and this was becoming so hard was that my fingers were flat on the card, you need to bend your fingers and put your fingertips on the cards.

This really helped me out a lot! I do happen to have smaller hands and I found that instead of having my grip more in the middle of the deck it was easier if I went just a little lower to get the spring action to work better.

For people whose hands are relatively small: Your right-hand finger should parallel to the short side of the cards, I try the way how Chris does, which is to put the thumb kind of in the middle of the deck and parallel to the long side of cards, it's hard to expand your spread larger. So if you are stuck on making your spread bigger, maybe you can try to adjust where to put your thumb.
