Several years ago, well more than just several, I was introduced to the Kamloops Trout, a very special brand of the Rainbow Trout we are so familiar with. For a couple years during my "professional life" I actually maintained a residence in Kamloops, and became quite familiar with these wonderful beauties. In western Canada one of the big events every summer is the Traveling Sedge hatch. These are really big Caddis Flies and lousy fliers, skittering across the lake their efforts to get airborne frequently end as a disaster in the form of a huge boil by a large Kamloops trout. The Tom Thumb is a classic Canadian pattern and can be very effective when "skated" across the surface during these events. There is a drawback in that the fly is pretty fragile, solution is to tie up lots of em, figure a dozen a day at least when you head north this next summer. Be sure to share this video with your fly tying friends. Thanks for watching!

I have never seen anyone use a Norvise, so this was a pleasure watching you tie a fly that I am very interested in. But what got me was watching you add the dubbing. Sir, you have made me want a Norvise. Never have I seen anyone add dubbing onto the thread like that. That is the neatest trick I have ever seen for dubbing. I tried to do it on my rotary vise ( I won't mention the brand, but it's a popular one ) and I can't do it. That's a great looking fly, and you make it look so simply done. Thank you.

Funny thing about the tom thumb is that when the fish are on those sedges it seems like it doesn't matter how torn up the fly gets they just keep hitting it. The best days I've ever had with a dry line have been on a tom thumb I must have tied hundreds of them.
