nice video. vietnamese are just such a beautiful people. I remember going from Thailand to nam and the white girls who gave thia guys 0 attention were like a kid in a candy shop in vietnam. Obv presenter is an indentcation of how lovely Viet. ladies are. Not the reason to go there but its most certainly a plus. If you havent been there go to see HaLong Bay easily the coolest place Ive ever been. Everywhere is gorgeous there just dont expect any night life and you'll enjoy it.

i am learning Vietnamese so that one day i can visit Hanoi. There are 3 orphans whom i support and so meeting them next year would be great. However i try to learn some basics so that i could communicate with them. Of course there are pocket device that would translate but nothing beats having to say it from one's mouth. thank you very much to make the lessons fun and easy to follow. Lan your explanation following the words make it easy to understand.

So the seller said 'this one? ... This one is 100 thousand' / 'Cái này?... Cái này là 100 nghìn/ngàn' ( depends on the region, North uses nghìn and South uses ngàn) After she said it's too expensive, the lady said 'This one is imported from Thailand' / 'Cái này là hàng nhập từ Thái Lan' Next part 'ok ok! 90 thousand... Are you gonna buy it? / ' 90 nghìn/ngàn, có mua không? ('mua' - buy) 'It's my lowest price' / 'Chị giảm hết cỡ rồi' ( here she used the word 'giảm' - decrease and 'hết cỡ ' - maximum) Next '60 thousand... No can do , no can do' / '60 nghìn, không được, không được' '70 thousand? No, no, I'm having a loss deal' / '70 nghìn ,không, không, chị lỗ rồi' 'Ok, fine sweetie, 70 thousand' / Thôi được rồi em ơi, 70 nghìn, 70 nghìn' 'oh my god, such a huge loss' / 'giồi ôi, lỗ quá'

At 6:00, you should've pronounced the VN name for the catfish springrolls (that was shown on the white board)--"Nem cá Xa Lộ"... At 7:18, what is "pock"? (part of Banh Xeo)

Thank you for these lessons! I'm going to watch many more of your videos :) I have two questions: is there much difference in dialect between northern and southern Vietnamese, and do you have any food advice for vegetarians/vegans? Thanks again! :)
@Tiengvietoi7 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim thanks for watching. For your questions: 1. Yes Northern and Southern dialects are quite different. Part of the difference is in the vocabulary (like British and American English) but the bigger part is in the pronunciation. I myself sometimes struggle to understand everything Southern people say when they speak fast. 2. Do you want advice in Hanoi or Saigon?
@Dazzafourfifty2 жыл бұрын
Love the videos but be good if your microphone is better or you wore a mic, very distant speaking making it hard to pick up pronunciation, maybe I’m deaf but seems that way for me, still very helpful
@davidaitchison33814 жыл бұрын
Like the vids but I live in Dien Hoa near Nha Trang and there us so many differences its crazy. Can you recommend where to learn Southern Vietnamese online. As i am getting a lot of blank looks after hrs of studying with you lol

@Lannguyen05089 жыл бұрын
Hi Cathy thanks for your nice comments :) We're based in Hanoi so we don't know much about places in Hoi An or Sai Gon. But in next videos I might add in some more recommendations like bug bites and other stuff. Stay tuned 😁
@Lannguyen05089 жыл бұрын
We don't normally bargain in the restaurant but we do bargain when going shopping for food in the market. You can use the same tips that was recommended in the video to bargain for food also. Hope this helps :)

There is no " Ôi giời ơi" in Vietnamese. The word "giời" is the sound of the north Vietnamese. The correct sentence is "Ôi trời ơi!"
