HOORAH!! This video helped me to single pin pick my first lock! I Had raked the lock and then, also, bitch picked it, before. Yah; it's a Masterlock 3 but you have got to start somewhere. Thanks Mister Jim.

Excellent intro , sir . As a noob I was going to put off learning to pin my own locks until very much later in my locksport journey , but now I see it's not as mysterious / complicated as I had imagined .

Great intorduction to lockpicking, Jim! I like the cutaway examples combined with normal picking. The explanation you gave on what to look for when lifting pins and setting pins is exactly what newbies will need.

@@georgiajim2260 to be honest it's a great refresher. I wasn't picking any locks for the last two days and I disappointed myself today by not being able to pick any locks, cause I totally lost my senses for picking. This video was a great reminder on what to do. So, now I bounced back and I'm back in the game!

Love the video! I got the Covert Instruments practice lock and I love it! I also like the Sparrows Progressive Locks. I bought their core trainers and re-cored the progressive locks to different keyways and I really am enjoying them!

Thanks for your video series Jim, you helped me get this masterlock with spool open. A couple quick questions, why do you pick at an angle instead of picking directly under the pins? Should I do that with top of keyway picking too?
@georgiajim22602 күн бұрын
@@Zeffrey-f3k if you have room to go directly under the pins without oversetting something then there is nothing wrong with that. Picking at an angle allows me to move though the keyway without having to push past any pins and potentially oversetting
@Zeffrey-f3k2 күн бұрын
@georgiajim2260 Yes sir, that definitely was my issue after trying for the right tension. I figured I'd ask since there's not much info on KZbin about that, but thanks to rewatching your vid, I just copied your technique and it worked well for top of the keyway. I still need to practice more for the tiny nudge checks and smooth lifts instead of just going for clicks but I'll get there. Thanks again!

Great job Jim. I think the best part was the discussion on tension. That is lacking in most beginner videos. You mentioned that you lay your middle finger along your pick (so do I), do you get pinched or callused on that finger?
