The one difference no one is mentioning is the 8008 model has the square wave generator and it has quite a range of selectable frequencies it can generate. Very useful for radio and amplifier troubleshooting.
@Ideal19803 жыл бұрын
well, there is one thing you missed, and that is the traces from the probe connection are reinforced with solder on the 8009, probably had some customers burn the traces on the 8008 in order for them to start doing that
@sirrebral Жыл бұрын
The trace soldering doesn't appear to be consistent on the AN8009's. I watched as many teardown videos as I could find before buying one, and here's what I found...of 5 KZbin videos that showed the internals of a *red* AN8009, all of them lacked the trace soldering; meanwhile, of the 2 KZbin videos that showed the internals of an *orange* AN8009, both had trace soldering. The only other video that I found with pictures of the internal board was a video that contained "AN8009" in the title, yet the actual device was a URXTRAL ZT111 (which, like the ANENG AN8009, is a rebadged ZOTEK ZT111); while that device was red, it had the trace soldering. But take these findings with a grain of salt...not only is the data from a very small sample size, most of the reviews were 5 or 6 years old so the internal components and/or manufacturing process could very well have changed since then...for better or for worse. Regardless, I ordered an orange AN8009 today from AliExpress (for less than $15 after tax for the "pro" version (contains extra leads & connectors) after stacking promo codes and cashback deals!); when it arrives next month I'll update this post to share what I find inside.

I have the AN8009, seems like a great meter for the price. I would reinstall the battery doors to the correct meter, that would keep me awake at night. Lol.

But the one question you didn't address was, What does that tactile switch on the back of the circuit board do??
@davidglynnguitars81196 жыл бұрын
It's on the older model, so it shouldn't be the NCV pickup because that isn't an option on the older one. But it does look like a tactile switch. But why would there be a switch on the back of the circuit board, and no way to activate it with the cover on. Hmmmmm, Thoughts, Paul???
@TheRadiogeek6 жыл бұрын
It's most likely used to put the meter into cal mode at the factory.
@KissAnalog6 жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure it is used for manual range setting. But don’t know why it is on the back, unless it is for testing at the factory.

Thanks Paul. My Aneng 8008 came in today. The leads on my meter are actually pretty good.

Gotta love 8008. For 20 bucks you cant go wrong....unless you try and read 440 triple-phase😲
@robertcalkjr.83256 жыл бұрын
Yep. I paid a little more because I didn't want to wait 3 weeks. But it will be a great little carry around meter that won't hurt too bad if I lose it or someone jacks it from me.
@wi_zeus67986 жыл бұрын
It seems like one can hack the AN8008 to measure temperature aswell.
@davidsteinhour55626 жыл бұрын
Manuauto the thermocouple is just a resistor that changes based on temperature. So it's very easy to plug one into any meter and look at the graph of that thermistor's resistance at a given temperature
@wi_zeus67986 жыл бұрын
David Steinhour whilst you could do that, I think it's rathet unpractical ;) You can change some bytes in the ERPROM and enable this feature completely.
@davidsteinhour55626 жыл бұрын
True and fair. But the price difference from '08 to '09 is hardly more than the price of an individual thermocouple. Even if you already have one, it's worth it just for the spare.
@georgechambers31976 жыл бұрын
I think you might ask your son about the bowl that's probably how the schmoo got on the meter? Still looks to be a good meter, but what is the tactile switch on the board of the old one for? Thanks for tearing it apart for us to see!
@KissAnalog6 жыл бұрын
I think that is for manual range setting. I don’t know why it is on the back unless it was meant for testing the board at the factory.

So,if you didnt like the orange,why didnt you order black? They do it in 3 colors. Thanks for the teardown though. What do you think of the Q1?
@yambo596 жыл бұрын
Hey have you seen the newest techy looking Aneng "Q1" meter with the slick new white on black high contrast display-?? All buttons & no selector knob. The case is new also and thicker, looks to be a very nice unit, and runs almost $40 on BG. I have an orange 8008 and two 8009's - one red and one orange, great little meters all are very accurate and among my top favorite meters. I prefer the NCV and temp setting of the 8009 over the useless (for me) square wave generator on the 8008, though the 8 is still a great meter. My next meter will definitely have to be the newest design "Q1" from Aneng, really a slick looking piece of work with no mechanical knob and that new high contrast display, really a step above the norm in sub fifty dollar meters.

No but I'll look for it.

Stay away from it. The screen fades out as soon as your battery starts dropping voltage. At 1.4v you'll have to look at funny angles already.

@@CofeeAuLait Yeah Q1 is one crappy multimeter, just saw a review and wonder why would anyone waste money on that overpriced junk?

Main differences, afaik: AN8008: Square Wave 50…5KHz versus AN8009: TEMPerature+NCV, but paying 30~50% more.

I love these little Aneng 8000 series meters, very accurate - ive got an 8008 and two 8009's - but have you seen the newest Aneng "Q1" with the new type of display-?? I saw it for sale on Bangood, has a very slick high contrast white on black display and no mechanical selector all buttons, very nice looking with a new case as well - I want it for my next meter but its $38 so have to wait a bit but Ill definitely have one, though im wondering if I should wait for reviews as its brand new and I havent seen any yet. Also I have yet to get a bad Aneng meter, they seem to have decent quality control compared to others ive had to repeatedly return for refund.

Yes, Dave visibly has a bias against "cheap" (say, less than $100) multimeters and Owon scopes. I'm yet to see a destructive spark test on his, very expensive, 121GW multimeter. I have two sub $100 multimeters and they work fine. One is a Velleman DVM870, that I have for 11 years. The other one is the Aneng 8008, which is a spot on multimeter. I'm pleased with both.
