really good explanation. The way you teach us is really fabulous. one doubt! what about sides(east, west, etc...)
@LearnEnglishLab7 жыл бұрын
I'm happy to hear that. With directions (north, south, east, west, left, right etc.), we DON'T add 'the' if the word comes after a verb. Ex: "Turn right", "Walk east" etc. But if a direction word comes after a preposition, we use 'the': "the building is on the right", "turn to the left" etc. :)

Thank you for your video, it is very helpful and explained really well! I've been struggling with articles for some time now. My only question from your lesson is why do we use a in the sentence "a teacher should be friendly to his or her students", but we use the in the sentence "the dolphin is very intelligent animal"? Thank you for your explanation
@mounikasomu90994 жыл бұрын
Same question with me, I was just checking in comments if there is an explanation :). Isn't "The Dolphin" makes it a specific dolphin that we are talking about?
@dovahkiingirl3 жыл бұрын
@@mounikasomu9099 Sometimes we use "the" to talk about things as a group. "The dolphin" is understood to mean "all dolphins" because the statement is talking about a quality that all dolphins share (being intelligent).

Hi! Great video! Have a question: if "A teacher should be friendly" is correct, why not "I don't enjoy watching a horror movie". Also, is the sentence "A rose is a kind of tropical flower" also incorrect? Pls explain.
@sahilrajan59174 жыл бұрын
I hope it is not too late to answer but my guess is that you cannot say 'I don't enjoy watching a horror movie' because the meaning here is you do not like watching horror movies in general and not a specific kind of horror movie. The idea behind the sentence is you do not like watching horror movies; plus as he mentioned that articles can be used only with singular countable nouns, horror movies are plural.
@joshthisside4 жыл бұрын
@@sahilrajan5917 sorry, still didn't get it. Also, horror movie is a singular noun, right?
@barkhabisht61934 жыл бұрын
"I don't enjoy watching a horror movie" because horror is uncountable noun and we cannot use a or an with un countable noun
