I suffer with severe dyspraxia and when I was just a kid my parents were told I'd most likely never be able to drive. I wanted to try anyway. I failed my driving test five (yep, five) times. My instructor was amazing and endlessly patient, but I began to feel that eventually even he was giving up hope that I'd ever do it. I downloaded the Ultimate Driving Course and passed my test with zero minors on my next try. I've now been driving for two years and consider myself to be a very safe and competent driver. I still watch these videos though! 😂 I honestly couldn't be more grateful. Thank you, Pin 🙏🙏

Just passed my test today 1st time and there was a lot of traffic and at one point a truck came full speed at me when it was my right of way and I touched the curb but because I was so stressed that I was sure I failed but I didn’t get marked down for it because it was his fault. I have extremely bad anxiety too so I was worried a lot. My advice to any people with their driving test make sure to take deep breaths and try not to panic (I know it’s easier said than done, and when I saw other people say that I didn’t believe it) but these videos actually really helped me a lot and I’m thankful :)

I have my test in a month. It will be my second time. The first time my awful instructor put me in too fast, made me feel doubtful as to whether I'd pass and failing decimated my confidence. Luckily, I've found a much better and more understanding instructor, who actually nags me more (but it works) and learned in an automatic. I really am desperate to pass; I've been learning for nearing 2.5 years (stopped and started over COVID-19). These videos are super helpful to sharpen my awareness. Thanks DGN!

The bus fault wasn't harsh at all, thought she was still going to overtake after maybe 5 seconds of noticing, but waiting there until the bus leaves is ridiculous I'm not gonna lie, hesitation issue for sure, I used to be very hesitant, you just have to get over it, habits.

I've noticed that in a lot of your videos, the learners pull up the hand brake when standing still, even if they're waiting for a round about or waiting for a green light. Is this a common thing to do in the UK? I would usually put it in neutral and keep a foot on the brake while waiting, or simply keep the clutch and the brake in at the same time until I'm ready to go.
@InshasChoice
@InshasChoice 2 жыл бұрын
I think the idea is that keeping the clutch down for a few moments (i.e. when traffic is stationary) can wear it out, hence we put the hand break up and let go of the clutch and footbreak. Plus we can rest our legs and feet.
@DitzyDaffy
@DitzyDaffy 2 жыл бұрын
@@InshasChoice Yeah, keeping your foot down on the clutch isn't good for your car! Can probably also say the same for the brake pedal. It's also safer to use your handbrake rather than just putting your foot down as there's no potential for you accidentally letting the brake go.

Plus you aren't sat on your brake lights blinding anyone behind you
@jackie9090
@jackie9090 2 жыл бұрын
my instructor said if your waiting somewhere for 3+ seconds its ideal to use the handbrake. It makes it easier to control your feet, doesn't keep the break light on which can dazzle others behind & less wear to your clutch. But if you think you'll go quickly then no need! I think as well its definitely easier for beginners/those with less experience as it helps with making sure everything else is ready to go, so all you need to do then is pop the handbrake down :)

Watching this after passing my test is great, also the UK driving test isn’t as strict as Singapore where I’m from, if you go to the wrong direction/fail to listen to the examiner’s instruction, you can get an immediate failure(same as a major fault) and there is no leeway unless you get a nice examiner.

THE ONLY REAL PROBLEM THAT ALL OF THESE STUDENTS MADE was taking the driving test when they ARE NOT YET FULLY TRAINED. i would assume that these guys just asked a relative to teach them a few about driving and almost quickly took the TESTS. LEARN TO DRIVE UNDER SUPERVISION AND TAKE YOUR TIME before you take the test that way when you take the test you are closer to a PRO than an child learning to ride a bicycle. WHICH IS WHAT THE PURPOSE OF THE TEST IS ANYWAY. its not to make sure that you can barely drive, but to make sure you are GOOD TO DRIVE.

those driving shoes, the sole still looks way to chunky. im in the market for some new ones but my normal ones have been discontinued after 4 years 3 pairs but my 3rd pair nearly a few years old now and now cannot get then in my size. the sole on them is no more than 1/2cm if that, made of texture cloth material, very flexible and the feel i tell you that you can feel every stone pebble when walking in them and that the feel im after when buying a new pair almost like im not wearing any, just enough protection but no more and mad thing they were 12 pounds a pair. ive tried others with thin soles but they just are rubbish. so im stuck with a pair falling apart till i find more even if a few more years, two weeks in to learning to drive i changed to them shoes and found nothing better now cannot get

(Sorry, long rant about something many driving instructors still keep doing (including Gracious' instructor, based on this video), that they really must stop!) Quick note: I want to be very clear that this absolutely is not Gracious' fault. She has been taught a bad habit by her instructor, and like a good student, she learned to do what she was instructed to do. Students shouldn't have to know about driving before they start learning, but unfortunately, because of a rather shameful event in driving instructor history, you still have instructors getting students to dangerously misuse their handbrake, and those students don't know any better. 6:42 (trouble with the handbrake) - This demonstrates one of the many reasons why driving instructors need to stop this nonsense of telling learners to push the release button (clue is in the name) on the handbrake to apply it. The handbrake is a ratcheting system; when they teach you to press the button when applying the handbrake, you are actively fighting against a system which is there to help you. They teach you to use the steering correctly. They teach you to use the pedals correctly. So they need to stop teaching you to use the handbrake in an incorrect and dangerous manner! This all started because some advanced instructors were fed up with hearing the noise of the handbrake being applied repeatedly through the day. They made recommendations that students be told to push the button when applying the handbrake, and it spread from there. Frankly, given their advanced driver status, they should have been ashamed of themselves. Somehow, misusing one of the common control systems in a car has become a staple of many driving instructors. It absolutely does not wear out the mechanism if you don't press the button in. Nobody worries about wearing out the ratchet mechanism on a socket wrench. No sailor worries about wearing out the ratchet on the coffee grinders when adjusting sails. Nobody worries about wearing out the ratchet when walking through turnstiles at a leisure centre or stadium. No trucker worries about wearing out the ratchet on the straps they use to hold down a load on their trailer. No driver should worry about wearing out the ratchet on their handbrake when pulling the brake lever up. PULLING THE LEVER UP WITHOUT PRESSING THE BUTTON WILL NOT WEAR OUT THE RATCHET! What it can do is cause you to not have enough pressure applied to the brakes when you leave the car (notice in the video how the lever drops down before Gracious releases the button). Or it can cause the locking pawl not be seated correctly between two ratchet teeth, and can slip after you leave the car. Additionally, having the locking pawl incorrectly positioned part way along a tooth on the ratchet rather than fully engaged puts pressure on the tooth in a manner it isn't designed to have to deal with. Repeatedly doing that over a prolonged time can cause the material to fatigue and break the tooth. What does wear out the ratchet is not releasing the handbrake correctly. And strangely, I've come across more than a few driving instructors who don't teach their students how to release the handbrake. You don't just push the button. The system is under a lot of tension when the brake is set, so you pull the lever up to take the pressure off the locking pawl, and then press the button in. If you do this correctly, the button is really easy to press in, and the lever releases smoothly. If the button is difficult to push in, or you feel a "Clunk" when the button is pushed in, you didn't pull the lever up enough, and you were dragging the locking pawl against the ratchet. This does cause wear to both the locking pawl and ratchet tooth that was in use, and if done repeatedly over a prolonged period can cause the teeth on the ratchet to start breaking. Unfortunately, people blame the damage from not releasing the handbrake correctly (and the earlier mentioned misaligned locking pawl) on not pushing the button in when applying it, and just perpetuate this dangerous myth. When learning I went through several driving instructors finding one I was satisfied would teach me properly. But I had been driving (racing on tracks, not illegally on the road) and doing mechanical work for years before I took driving lessons. The first instructor I had was with a guy who had a Vauxhall Corsa (a car I was pretty familiar with already), and the first time I applied the handbrake he chastised me for not pushing the button in. "If you push the button in to release it, you should push the button in to apply it" he said. After I insisted he read the section in his owners manual on applying the handbrake, which very specifically states you are not to push the button in when applying the handbrake, I asked him how I can have any confidence he can teach me to drive correctly, when he doesn't know how to apply the handbrake in his own car correctly? Of course, he got rather indignant at being called out by a student, and claimed the manufacturer was wrong about how to use the equipment provided in the vehicle they make. I ended the lesson immediately and looked for the next instructor. Seriously, if your driving instructor tells you to push the button in when applying the handbrake, look up the owners manual for their car online and read the handbrake section. If it says not to push the button when applying the handbrake, ask your instructor why they are teaching something that conflicts with the directions of the manufacturer. If they claim the manufacturer is wrong, or that either method is fine, or get angry, find a new instructor!

@@benjimain6 because it is an important subject. This terrible teaching practice has led to parked cars rolling, crashing into walls and other vehicles causing significant property damage. There have also been incidents involving people being injured and killed when a vehicle rolled away after parking, which potentially were caused by this practice of teaching people to use their handbrake incorrectly.
