It's normal to be nervous, try driving on familiar quiet wide roads. And always remember what you were taught and expect to make small mistakes such as stalling, it took me 12 months to become fully confident, although I had previous motorcycle experience.

Congratulations! My first ever solo drive was literally round the block. 😅 Moved the car to a different parking spot, and I was terrified. 😂😂 After that I took it steady by driving round streets I knew well, without any reason other than driving. Last thing you want is to be looking at the clock, rushing to get somewhere. Just remember what you learnt, do all your checks, keep your distance, ignore the rudeness of others, and expect the unexpected. It's amazing how many bad/thoughtless drivers there are out there! Good luck!

Passed 1st time today with 3 minors and if I can do it anyone can! Only advice is if you can drive with a family member/ friend, look for all the test routes (KZbin had 30 in my area). Map them out and go over them till you know the roads backwards. I did a route today I'd done a bunch of times which helped a lot. Also these videos and world driving school mocks helped me learn where others trip up. Good luck everyone!

I've been driving now for 55 years, I still make mistakes, thankfully minor ones, and I still occasionally stall the car. I reckon that when learning the main aim is to be comfortable and confident with the control of the car, so it comes as automatically as possible without too much thinking, that way you can concentrate on factors outside the car. When learning, my dad used to take me out at quiet times and just let me practise my driving without worrying too much about being perfect, quite often we would go to a large empty car park and practise car control. That's just my take on learning !

I only had an instructor slamming the brakes once. Luckily not during an exam. This lady in a motorised wheelchair was coming up while I was attempting to reverse park. She wanted to cross between me and the parking space. I noticed her and the car was standing still, as I expected her to pass. But she stopped and put up her hand. This led me to believe she was letting me park first. So I put up my hand aswell and started looking around the sides for other traffic before letting my brakes go and slowly starting to move backwards. But as I was diverting my attention back to the rear view mirror, my instructor slammed on the brakes, right as I noticed the lady right behind the car. It turns out the whole thing was a miscommunication. The lady in the wheelchair wasn't sure if I had seen her, and therefor stopped. She raised her hand to get my attention. When she saw me waving back, she assumed I was letting *her* go first. So as I started looking around for other traffic, she started to move again. Luckily, I ofcourse never even got close to hitting her and I'm sure I would have seen her before hitting her even if my instructor wasn't there. But it was definitely a good learning moment.

@keith64003 жыл бұрын
@@jxpan246 Finding the bite in this way will add unnecessary problems which can be avoided by employing a sensible technique. The fact that it is easy to do is somewhat off the point. Using the footbrake whenever a an upslope is encountered the chances of stalling is increased, very steep hill starts are going to be very difficult leading to worrying about stalling which starts to happen more and more. Then you will worry about stalling at complex junctions. It is not a sensible procedure o follow as it will ultimately undermine confidence

@joshspace993 жыл бұрын
@@keith6400 You can hold the brake and release the clutch until you find the bite, the car won't move, same technique can be done with the handbrake. Releasing the break and trying to find the bite within 0.5 and 1 sec is a lot more stressful and will lead to more stalling, since he will try to find the bite too quickly. There is a reason why most instructors tell you to find the bite with the handbreak up and then pull down the handbrake after you have the bite.
@keith64003 жыл бұрын
@@joshspace99 My argument relates to feet and being able to start at a particular instant (on the flat and uphill) and from that exact moment accelerate away very rapidly. This might only be crucial in busy traffic with small gaps at a multi-lane roundabout. You can start other ways but generally they have shortcomings under specific circumstances. Using the handbrake as you describe is related more to a hill start and if you were using it you clearly don't need to use the footbrake as well but prevention of roll-back is the objective here and additional revs to get the power to ascend

I''ve come to the conclusion that cycling on roads, then using a moped, as I did and my son did, helps people to get used to lane changing and signalling and checking for traffic because we both passed first time, and I had only had around half a dozen lessons. Learning to drive when you have never been on the road must be hard to get your head into checking for traffic, signalling and the like.
@beverleybalshaw91192 жыл бұрын
Spot on! I cycled then progressed to a moped, AND I owned a horse too who was wonderful in traffic. It was a good few years before I decided to have driving lessons. Being a horse owner truly sets you up as you are in charge of an animal with a mind of it's own, as my friend once said, if you can ride a horse, you can drive a car! How right she was! No more having to have my horse feed delivered! 20 years later I miss my horse still, you don't have that bond with a car as my horse and I had 💔

I agree it makes you more aware of everything around you, I personally think it should be a mandatory progression.

Yet another video highlighting the sheer unpreparedness of many of these learners, and I cannot understand why so many of their instructors are suggesting they're ready for a test when they're clearly not. Could this be the driving instruction industry's major failing?

8:46 why is it mandatory to stay of the pavement if most of people just park like the cars in front of them
@BLADE_RISE3 жыл бұрын
Because parking on the pavement blocks pedestrians. Just becuase others do it doesnt mean its right, most drivers are idiots ngl, they think they can get away woh anything

Passed my test first time with 3 minors a couple weeks ago. Watching these videos honestly helped me so much - so thank you pin for being a factor in my success!!! Driving by yourself is amazing, but a massive learning curve! The learning doesn't stop once you've passed that's for sure 💕

Some people will never be a driver no matter how many lessons they have.
