Wow!!!! I think you would need at least 7 figures on your hand to hit all of those runs!! You did a phenomenal job figuring it out though. The only other person that I can think of that could possibly play this would be no other than Steve Vai.

as a guitarist, I really admire how sax players play. It's so easy to make a guitar solo sound like a practice routine, running up and down scales and arpeggios with no gap or concern for anything but trying to show off at the sake of the music. Sax players seem to have such great ears for melody, and since they have to breathe, they can't just throw out as many notes as they can for an entire section, so there seems to be such a deliberate choice with the notes they play. So kudos to you sax players out there, keep up the good work.

@@joolz666 of course it does and I did not forget about that. He has the speed, technique, passion, feel, he is an amazing guitarrist, but you did not understand what I meant. It was through ear training and theoretical knowledge that he got the song, of course his playing helped
@joolz666
@joolz666 2 жыл бұрын
@@migas89821 I understood what you meant and agree with you 100%. 🙂 I thought it was a really interesting video watching him struggle with what his fingers wanted to do vs what the saxophonist was playing; not easy.
@migas89821
@migas89821 2 жыл бұрын
@@joolz666 I also agree. But every time we learn a song don't we all struggle with the same. Look at me, stopped playing 20 years, retook last year, I am trying to learn the solo of stairway to heaven, I can play it beautifully at 80% speed, my fingers have not yet reached the speed with which I used to play. I am also trying to learn Europa, and I am also struggling I can play 50% of the song at normal pace, but the other 50% I can only play at 50% because I am also struggling with the finger positioning because it goes out of the pentatonic box on Cm. Tyler has everything, time, experience, knowledge speed, and he manages to combine all of it.
@joolz666
@joolz666 2 жыл бұрын
@@migas89821 Good luck with relearning and getting your speed up. 👍 I have been trying to play my own (not very difficult and not very good) solos and simply cannot move my fingers very fast at all. How Tyler managed some of the trills (racks?) on that saxophone piece I'll never know (well, technique, knowledge, years of hard work and practice). He did a phenomenonal job, and it was somewhat comforting and reassuring to watch a professional musician struggle/make mistakes trying learn something, but getting there in the end.

YES... YES.. YES... you are on to something here my friend! I'm sure you learned this in music school... as it are in a class of Music appreciation back in 1981. I think we all know that the great Alan Holdsworth originally wanted to be a saxophone player but went to the guitar because that was "the thing" at the time... and you can totally hear a lot of his influence from sax players in his guitar playing. Not to mention Eddie Van Halen growing up with his dad playing all that "Oom -pa-pa" clarinet style stuff ... you know that had a lot of influence on his swing! Complex music like this is so much more interesting and fun than the mindless Pop (poop)... so that has its place as well I guess... but music line this is so much more challenging and in many ways, enjoyable... especially for musicians! Hope to hear of this in! your music! 😎👍🎸🤘

I had this exact feeling when I had to play The Chicken in an ensemble last year, I was told to double the melody and even though that melody isn't super complicated all the fingerings were really bizzare compared to what I was used to. I never really knew why until now though, horn melodies are just built different. Cool!

this is something I've actually been doing for a couple months with the band "The Midnight." it's not as jazz based, but I'm finding that playing the sax part on my guitar is REALLY helping my feel for the notes a lot because I tend to try to mimic what the player's breath does to the notes. the way the breath plays the note dictates the feel on the sax so as I try to mimic that I find my feel improving by default. If anyone is curious to the specific song. it's called Jason.
