What a fun adventure 🤩 Malawi was never on my travel list but it’s stunning! I also love your technique of learning on the ground. I have done that subconsciously on some of my trips and have had varying levels of success depending on the country!

I tutored a very sweet Malawi girl a few years ago. Her first language was English, but she told me her parents had her learn Chichewa to better communicate with other Malawians. It sounded like Chichewa is a sort of lingua franca there. Anyway, she told me it's a super easy language and I should learn it. I looked it up and it's definitely very straightforward! Super interesting.

Such a cool way to learn a language, and in a beautiful country too! I'd love to visit Malawi someday, i was sad to hear about the cyclone they endured recently

I' considering adding some of these destinations to my bucket list.

The music kinda reminds me a little of Zydeco ❤️ It's so beautiful over there! It's definitely going to be on my list. And you're better than me... I don't do well if I get lost. I'm good for maybe a few minutes, but longer than that I start crying and freaking out. 😭 And of course a language lover can't help but learn a little something during the trip. 😆

Me and my family went there in july, if you go again, i do recommend going to Sigelege in Salima or Macondo in Mzuzu!

Oh my god I’ve always wanted to learn Chichewa! I heard it in a song and it sounded so beautiful, it was just so hard to find resources to learn haha

Nice video. As a Swahili learner, it always interests me when a polyglot adventures out into a language of Africa or the Americas. Hearing Chichewa felt like listening to Swahili that I couldn't understand lol. Though when you mentioned Njala (?) meaning hunger, I was like oh that's like the Swahili word Njaa, which means the same thing!

What is the night life like in Malawi? Any places you would recommend?

I intend to acquire proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic and likely an Arabic dialect, in addition to Mandarin, Farsi, and Turkish. Are there any recommended book resources for the Chichewa language?
@giuseppedelfino824618 күн бұрын
Well, there aren't a lot of resources. One book you can use is the FSI course (pdf + mp3), which you can download for free: just google it!

Omg 🫣 what’s it like and how scary is it to go into that water at Victoria Falls? It’s always been a fascinating/terrifying image to see people there so I’m excited to ask someone! 😲
@LindieBotes17 күн бұрын
Honestly it looks scarier than it is! The rocks form a natural barrier so you don’t actually fall down 😂

Nah I dunno if I trust any rocks like that 😂 good to know though! Great vlog btw 😊

Random question but do you and your brother speak Afrikaans together or are you just using English for the video?

Just English for the video! We speak Afrikaans to each other

lololol " Skidbidi Toilet". You can take the boy out of " DIE JUNGLE" aka SA / ZA.... lolol Nope, No way would I go to a country where I could get kidnapped.
@LindieBotes18 күн бұрын
I think I'd be more likely to get kidnapped in Pretoria than in Livingstone... we felt much safer in Zambia than in South Africa, and about the same in Malawi.
@CWM03018 күн бұрын
@@LindieBotes Really??? I thought ZA / SA was safer than say Malawi or Nigeria or even Sudan? :O
@LindieBotes15 күн бұрын
Malawi is fine, totally not comparable to Sudan which I wouldn’t willingly visit 💀
