チャカはオノマトペからきていると思います。 拳銃を持った時の小さく鳴る金属音をチャカチャカと表現できますが、鍵同士のぶつかった音の方がチャカチャカと言えると思います。 裏社会ではこのような隠語は多くあります。

This is such a fun way to learn. Thank you, George. Chaka is my new favourite word. *tip: You might want to consider switching the difficult level to Easy. The game will be chaotic as you progress. *note: as you progress through the game, you'll be able to go back and rewatch scenes of the story.

see... what I wanted to watch was you interpreting these cool yakuza meetings. All I ever got out of them was おやぶん, and I thought it was funny to call the lead of a project I was on, おやぶん! She had a good laugh about it. So mission accomplished.

Hey George at 6:30 I think the を might be omitted? 下手を打つ is an expression on Jisho. Not sure if someone pointed this out already. It just means to make a mistake.

Such a great game series...even with a touch of jankiness here and there. It always amazes me all the side content there is hidden and not so hidden away to get side tracked on...no idea how many hours spent pocket league racing, karaoke or running cabaret clubs...but it's a LOT

I would equate the Japanese slang terms to American gangster terms; "okami" the feds/the heat. "chaka" a piece.

Also I asked a native about the 死体を転がす. This is what they said: --- 転がす には幾つかの意味があり、言葉そのままの解釈であるならば、 死体を転がす(回転させながら移動させるようなイメージ)とか、 転がしておく(放置する)いう意味ですが、 別の意味であれば、 第三者に委ねる とか、意味を広げれば 転売する。という意味もあります。 --- --- はい。ヤクザが使うようなイメージの言葉です。 普通の人は『死体を転がす』なんて言わないですから😅 おそらく、 『ここに、この人を遺体の状態で置いておいたのは、俺じゃありません。』 と言いたいのかと思います。 ---

Ah the joys of translating... at least you have the subtitles right there, usually I try to translate things without japanese subtitles like movies(they hate subtitles in Japan for some reason) and many times I can't hear which words they're using

my keyboard does give me 殺っちまった in the recommended kanji when i type that out, so i guess it can be read like that i found a couple of old hinative answers for the question the first one is simply that its used in manga(since they can write it out and the reader knows that this "やる" means to kill) then theres this one that relates to the yakuza. that its like gang/mafia slang, maybe think like "hitting" or "wacking" someone, which you heard in old mafia movies " '殺る' is a word used as a hidden word meaning "killing" in the back society. 「殺る」は、裏社会で「殺す」という意味の隠語として用いられている言葉です。"

I wasn't watching full stream, so maybe you figured it out, I just wanted to explain hierarchy in the story as that was kind of confusing even playing this in english. All of this was shown in story so far. There are multiple Yakuza "families" in the story and each general you saw in this video is "patriarch" of his family. They also swore loyalty to the "main family" with big boss. "Oya-san" mentioned in the video who is in prison, is patriarch of his own family, of which Kiryu(our main character) is part of. Also, he is kind of number 2 of whole organization, so if one of the bosses in the video can get good favor of big boss, they can get higher status for their family instead of family, whose patriarch is in prison.

Also, this "respectful person" just means civilian, as in not person affiliated with the yakuza underworld.

@@TheNoFrame your original comment is mostly right, but just a bit off. Including some extras you might know for George's benefit if he also sees this. Kazama is Kiryu's adoptive father, and even though Kiryu is in the same clan (the Tojo, Tokyo's main yakuza organization in the game) he is NOT in the Kazama family. Kiryu is in the Dojima family. Now, its been awhile since I've played, but if i recall correctly, as you said Kazama is a Captain (as they say in the english translation), so I looked up a heirarchy tree, which I think is in the game also, and it gets a little confusing. Dojima is actually in one of 3 spots just below the Tojo Clan Chairman (Highest position of all). Kazama is Captain of the Dojima family, but also has his own separate family. The 3 lieutenants in this video are all going for Kazama's spot to get promoted. Dojima would also benefit and get promoted to take over from the current Chairman. I was thinking of commenting the same myself, but wasnt sure how much George wanted info versus figuring it out for himself as the story progresses further.

That hat's a statement to be sure. Reminds me of that scene in Firefly where Jane gets a hat from his mother, only for Wash to state, "Man walks down the street wearing a hat like that, you know he's not afraid of anything."

kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmHOooR9qN97bck One reading of 上 is kami. Aside from an anki-card with reibun, I don't know how it is used. But I think it is used for someone of high status or authority. Given that they use it for the cops, I think okami might be 御上.

Maybe they call the police "the wolf" as some sort of metaphore. I'm not that great at Japanese yet, so maybe that's not the same okami as for wolf
