Fish board is fine, but add an extra foot or two. Choppy water days and all 7 of the spots are Jurassic.

Hey man love the video. I just have a question and it would be great if you can answer it. I'm 5'10/178cm and 136lbs/62kg so i'm pretty skinny. I'm gonna go on a trip next month and will go surf for the first time. I Skate but wanna switch to Surf and was planning on buying a 2nd hand 6'0 -6'2 shortboard to start learning on. I really wanna get a shortboard to finally have a board to bring back home. Would it be okay to buy a shortboard as my first board even though it is hard or would you suggest not buying a board yet and just rent a longboard for the learning process? It would be nice though to start on a shortboard just for the fun of it. Thanks!

Ain't nothing fun about learning on a shortboard. Basic skills are going to take you a lot longer to learn and everything is going to take more effort. Get a longboard, learn the basics, spend some time with it, then when you feel comfortable with it and you're ready for a smaller board, go down to a mid length or a funboard and get comfortable with that. Get good at carving, pumping for speed, doing turns, identifying section. Only then should you move on to a shortboard and get more radical. AWith that you'll have a versatile quiver. Your shortboard for average waves, your mid length for big surf, and your longboard for small surf.

Guys, I am going to start surfing for the first time and am struggling to find a good surfboard that would suite me because I don't want to waste my money on something that won't work well. I have watched a good amount of videos but I want personal advice. I am 13 am 5,1 and am super skinny. I also am not sure if I should buy a cheap one to buy another one later or one that is more expensive that will last me a while.

I would start with a surfboard that is a little wider and has volume in order to get comfortable (These boards are more stable and easier to learn on). A fish surfboard is a good start. Also feel free to check with your local surfshop to borrow or rent a couple of surfboards and test them in order to check what board is good for you. I would also invest on a used board at first instead of a new one. Please feel free to call us with any questions. www.sandiegosurfingschool.com 858-205-7683. We are here to help. Thanks
