The movie was crap. 3 out of 10. If they had taken the court scene with Arthur and Gary and kept that tone for the entire movie, it would have stood a chance. They had no clue what to do with Arthur's character.

They made a Billion world-wide on the first Joker.....it was IMPOSSIBLE for the studio to not cash in on a sequel. Reminds me of a statement by Joe Walsh of the Eagles who said that the recording execs wanted them to rush out another album after the success of Hotel California....it didn't matter whether it was full of burps and farts.....the suits were already counting the money.

It made that much because it was an origin story for the most popular and iconic comic book villain in history. It isn't a good movie, let alone a masterpiece.

I always go into a movie believing it could be very good, or that I could gain something from it, even if I know most people hate it. You can learn a lot from a bad movie even, though it's usually what not to do.

And it’s apparent that they don’t believe in their product (musical) because they are hiding that it’s a musical in the trailer. Are they trying to appeal to more men by downplaying musical aspect?

Why don't they make movies like they used to in the 90s, most of them didn't have great plots, but they were so fun to watch, with the quirky dialogues and punchy action scenes

I did not mind the musical aspects, i found it quite intriguing and fun entertainment, but how the ending was played out really is just a punch to the face and ruins both first and second Joker movie absolutely and is sure to cause fans to hate it. There had to be 2 stupid twists that make absolutely no sense. And this movie does not know what it wants to say, what is the message, what is the theme?

Your "Comic book vs Realism" issue in this movie was an issue I even had in the first Joker, though it was at least more well composed then what Joker 2 seems. Joker 1, While a good attempt, was still a deficient failure in my eyes but by the look of it the sequel seems like an total mess. This sentiment seems very common for Joker 2

did they allow him to paint his face? I'm stunned, partly because I went down a KZbin rabbithole this summer watching lawyer and courtroom channels. A lot of the judges were bosses. Perhaps in a different time this happened?

@@LearningaboutMoviesI think the movie tries to break down the idea of how one could become the joker in a semi realistic way. to me it felt kind of like a love letter to the joker character starting with the wb cartoon and then transitioning to the Arthur role. I definitely feel they could've cut maybe two or 3 musical scenes especially in the middle and beefed up Harleys story more based not in Arthur's delusions. I feel like they were going with a parallel to the women who idolize killers like the night stalker and Ted Bundy. I think Harley was lying about her pregnancy which is a manipulative move women use in abusive relationships which joker and Harleys relationship has always been. I think the police brutality is meant to be almost a reality check for the price of his crimes. In joker 1 Bruce Wayne was just a kid so he was never going to have this encounter with batman so I think the ending with the prisoner "real joker" carving himself a smile means how there's always going to be someone crazier than you. Arthur was a good guy who snapped. The guy at the end never seemed good spirited from the start of his life. You see all the people dressed as joker with civil unrest in the city showing how people get swept up with external events. In most batman media the jokers backstory is left ambiguous on purpose as what it would take to reach that level of madness is uncomfortable and often irrelevant to the story with batman but this movie without a batman is alot more grimm like reality aka "society" meme but it's rooted in some truth. Idk my thoughts a little rambling.

the first one wasn't that great either. I think there was a social contagion going on after it came out, where everyone was afraid to admit it was over rated. It was a rip off of Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy. Even the director admitted that.

This does not try to do the Superhero thing - AT ALL. Everything you hated this film for I absolutely loved. Amazing film, possibly better than the first. But I can see why this rubbed you up the wrong way - this IS NOT meant to be entertainment - it is the deconstruction of entertainment.
@LearningaboutMovies
@LearningaboutMovies Күн бұрын
the deconstruction of entertainment was done ad infinitum in the postmodern era, much better and much sharper. Of course it was superhero, too, as otherwise the insanity of the guards, the judge, etc., wouldn't make much sense without that excuse. The movie literally started off as a cartoon, much closer to superhero than a realist drama.
