Small group time is an important part of the day in Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. To help make sure students’ time is being used effectively, it’s important to differentiate for the needs of all your students.
In this video, I’ll give you a recommendation on how to simplify planning for small groups while also increasing differentiation!

What do you recommend to use for differentiation for phonological awareness for 3K? Our school wants them to start learning how to identify the letters in their name/prewriting. For example, writing their name on their artwork, labeling their photos with the first letter (ex:H for hair in their head). My school so far says they can trace sand letters to practice. We are also starting Heggerty next year to prepare them for phonics once they are in Kindergarten. Thanks!

Hey there! This blog here outlines some phonological awareness components - learningattheprimarypond.com/blog/fun-hands-on-phonological-awareness-activities/ I'd say rhyming for sure is a good place to start with 3K and then you could go from there!

But the below achiever group needs help, and we have other groups who would ever keep quiet and keep calling the teacher significant 🤫 when a teacher has 18 children in one class with different levels and in groups, here is the tricky part. Some never read independently. How can a teacher manage to control all of them and complete this task on time

Yes it's definitely a balance and can take weeks (sometimes months!) to work your way up to running small groups efficiently. I encourage you to stay with it! Let me know if you need some more help thinking through a plan.
