2 days ago i took a flight from Malaysia to Qatar and the guy was sitting next to me was from Portugal, we talked almost all the flight time along,but when we landed in doha we said goodbye and he rushed to catch his next flight to Madrid, i kept looking at him from the back as he was running. I don't know why I have this feeling in my chest and why I am still thinking of him all the time, i hope one day i will see him again

Pretty accurate, though, I would say that the Portuguese really aren’t that more friendly than other Europeans; I find the Spaniards more friendly. Secondly, low taxes? Are you kidding. and the healthcare? Well, most Portuguese would agree that the public system is in complete Collapse and you need to get private insurance if you want any kind of decent medical care other than emergency care. But I haven’t found private care to be all that great compared to the United States. For example, if you do series of tests, like blood tests, or etc., or even imaging tests, you have to take the responsibility to get an appointment to get the results. Even if results came back extremely negative they wouldn’t contact you, so nobody takes ownership getting back to the patient even if the results could be life-threatening. You are really responsible for managing a lot of your healthcare.

I have visited portugal a lot. Mostly found people are nice but I had one experience which I can't seem to forget. I was at the checkout at Continente supermarket. The lady serving me humiliated me in front of others. She asked to see in my handbag and proceeded to search through my bag, she glared at me with disgust throughout. Not sure what I did wrong other than the fact I am asian. She was totally prejudiced. I can't forget how she made me feel that day.

Are the taxes high?
@MarizaRodrigues-mw4bn Жыл бұрын
@@clementekpo7606 Yes, Portugal is a small country with an ageing population and taxes need to be high to pay for healthcare, education, security, policing, infrastructure, etc. The reason Portugal is welcoming foreigners to settle here is because we need more people to work & pay taxes. Income Tax (IRS) starts at 14.5% for annual income of up to 7479 Euros and goes up, in a tier system, to a maximum of 48% for annual income above 78 834 Euros. Here's the basic IRS tax rate tiers: Annual Income up to 7 479 Euros -- 14.5% From 7479 to 11284 -- 21% From 11284 to 15992 -- 26.5% From 15992 to 20700 -- 28.5% From 20700 to 26355 -- 35% From 26355 to 38632 -- 37% From 38632 to 50483 -- 43.5% From 50438 to 78834 -- 45% Above 78834 -- 48% These are the basic rates for year 2023. Each individual can deduct certain personal expenses such as health and education costs, etc. Also, 2 people living together as a couple can declare their taxes together and lower their overall tax if one has a lower income than the other. Families with children also get deductions.

I can testify to that most Portuguese people are not open to change and is country full of deep seated dark secrets. I was born there and left when I was 22 years old in 1981, and I have no desire to go back. I have been living in Scottsdale, Arizona, for about 40 years and love it here.
@fractal11332 ай бұрын
Really? What kind of deep seated secrets? We are thinking of retiring there. Change in what way?
@SylvieShene2 ай бұрын
@fractal1133 it's okay for people to retire in Portugal. It's a pretty country, and it's pretty safe for foreigners. I grew up there, and it's not safe for me emotionally, so i think i will remain in Scottsdale AZ for the rest of my life. Many Portuguese people are very secretive, repressed, and very passive-aggressive. In Portugal, emotional abuse and sexual abuse are tolerated. It's the talking about it that is forbidden, especially if it involves a famous prestigious psychiatric doctor. If you would like to read about my experience growing up in Portugal, read my book A Dance to Freedom: Your Guide to Liberation from Lies and Illusions.

Maybe because has a low population, around 10 M, but Portugal must be lacking the amounts of inner motivated merchant class, families and types of people, like exists in Spain. Just working from home types from elsewhere off of the Iberian Peninsula, just digital nomads, isn't working , isn't what it takes. Spaniards aren't much laid back, it's just a different type of character, that strict work ethics time, and the time for fun and rest, is well thought out.
