Have a cool sailboat you think would make a good boat tour video on our channel? Reach out to us! Please send us the year, make, model, location, some pictures, and a brief description to:
jordan@learningthelines.com
We're looking forward to hearing from you!
Just a quick note, no boat is too far away! We're currently based in Florida, so Florida boats will probably take priority, but please feel free to reach out with boats all around the USA and even the world! After Covid, we're open to flying or driving to do boat tours if it's the right opportunity!

Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. We started out with Somnium, an O'day 272, moved onto Freebie, an Endeavour 32, and now are focusing on sailboat tours and working full time as teachers while we save up for our next boat.
Please leave a like and comment if you've enjoyed the video, and subscribe if you haven't already.

I started watching because I wanted to see some boat repairs but I also like your personalities so I watch your boat tours now. Other boat tour videos tend to do the larger boats 40> I'd like to see more 35-38 ftrs that need a little work but not necessarily total refits. Good luck with the channel and your baby and future plans.

I love your boat tours! I've learned a lot by watching you two go through a boat and it helps when I'm looking to know what I"m looking at just by watching your videos. While you probably didn't start the boat tours as an educational experience per se, they really are. You two are fantastic teachers! So thanks!

Randi, you are looking great! I know that its uncomfortable at the moment and you can't do certain things (like sleep on your front) and the baby starts kicking just as you're going to sleep (because babies are born nocturnal) but eat well (with a shinking stomach) plenty of meat, fish and eggs. Hope baby is well and congratulations to you both!

Love your video’s. I don’t own a big boat but have always been fascinated with them. My wife and I do own a lake house with a pontoon... We’re to old 64 to sail the ocean blues but good young people like yourself helps me see what life would be like or would have been like to sail. I must say it would have been awesome but 38 years of marriage to the same lovely lady with two daughters, a wonder granddaughter and grandson I’m not complaining. Congratulations on your pregnancy! I can’t wait to see the new little sailor. Keep showing us the beautiful boats and get back out there sailing when the time is right. Can’t hardly wait for your next video. 2 in one day is ok by me LOL.

Glad to see this video. First, with boatyards in Marathon, Islamorada, and Key Largo there are plenty of boats to review within an hour or two of you. I hope you will start doing more practical boats for the middle class and I can offer suggestions. I would strongly suggest you take a look at the Gemini series, 3000, 3200, 3400, 105M and 105Mc. The Geminis are the most popular and affordable cruising catamarans ever built and various models have been in production since 1981. They have an interesting history and over 1,200 have been made. The company is under new ownership and is expanding it's offerings. I heard a rumor that the hulls are actually being made at the Catalina factory in St Pete. feel free to email or call if you want more info. Also, it would be very, very helpful to give a visual overview of the boat before climbing aboard, and maybe give a history of the boat and builder in the process. I know you two like the oddball eccentricities, but they are often difficult to evaluate, lacking in building and performance history and can lead to a real loss when it comes time to sell. They are often difficult to sell and may take a long time to move. If you buy an oddball you better steal it. Remember, there is a reason they are oddballs. Also, mass produced boats can be refined and modified as production goes on. This is certainly true of Geminis and Leopards, which are always inviting feedback from past and future buyers and always tweaking their boats.

Hi Jordan and Randy, I'm a South African subscriber and sailor, here are a few suggestions for you, all are GREAT SA boats with probably millions of offshore miles, both cruising and racing and designed for our local coastal cruising and racing, IE notoriously heavy weather conditions with the convergence of the Benguela and Aghulas currents and Atlantic and Indian oceans, Cape Aghulas and Cape Horn are the only 2 places on earth where you have this occurrence, so all are built like brick sh@thouses, if you can find any in the States that are feasible to get to. 1 Angelo Lavranos designed, John Roberson built L36' 2 Oswald Berckemeyer designed, Nebe yachts Miura 31' (rounded the Horn, multiple Cape to Rio and Cape Town/St Helena return solo races, fastest overall time CT/St Helena/CT by Bertie Reed, later a Vendee globe racer) more circumnavigations than any other boat in its class, and what I am buying (in process) to do a solo Atlantic crossing. Angelo Lavranos designed John Roberson built L34'/holiday 34', L 34' being the performance version, identical hull and deck with a different keel, rig and steering setup, L34's have a deeper bulb keel, keel stepped fractional rig and tiller steered. These boats are also very competitively raced offshore with L34's being multiple times class winners in Cape to Rio races, and I've sailed one in 48kn true, close hauled with catabatic gusts of up to 63kn off Cape Town and we tacked into that for 6 hrs with a third reef, and a postage stamp of furling genoa out, sheets inboard of the shrouds on the staysail cars. Good fun. 4 Angelo Lavranos designed, Fred Scholtz built Tosca 36' CC. this is a very nice 36' centre cockpit boat, again very heavily built cruising boat. All these boats beside some of the owner finished Miuras are solid laminate hulls and decks. And generally heavier built than most other boats.

Yeah, also a South African subscriber and extremely proud of South Africa's proud sailing and yacht building heritage. Many only think catamarans when they think SA boats, and while SA cats are fantastic and regularly voted best, but SA's mono hull pedigree is also way up there with the best in the world. SA's boat builders need to build them stronger, as the notoriously treacherous Atlantic & Indian oceans with their strong currents, storms and rugged coastlines would punish lesser boats.

Ash looks happy. 👍👍👍 I love all boats and enjoy your tours. It would be helpful if you could give a few more details, like rudder type, keel and type of rig. The sailing vloggers, Rigging Doctor has a few really great videos that explains the different types of rigs...like a cutter rig has two head sails...wrong. Thanks!

I would like to see the 2001 Cabo Rico 36 that’s for sale in Punta Gorda. It seems almost too good of a price for everything it has. I would like to see it now instead of the sailing pictures they give the broker. I know that’s extremely far from where the Passport was but just in case you are close someday and it’s by the same brokerage. I still have to finish the remodel of my house and sell so I don’t think anything you guys tour right now will be on the market by then but I am shopping for the type of boat and then I will find the actual boat then.

Ahoy Cameron, I live in Port Charlotte, right across the harbor from Punta Gorda. I am in the slow season right now and would like to take a look at this boat with you. No, I am not interested in a monohull, but always interested in looking at boats. The old San Jose factory closed in 2009 and I think Cabo Rico is currently not building anything. The new sailboat market has been declining by double digits annually for over 12 years and it is a very tough way to make a living.

Hey! Love you 2. Been watching you for a few years. Love that your going to have a baby now. I have 2 kids now 6 and 2 years old. (Both salors) So you 2 have motivated us to go electric (along with a few other salors) we own a 1973 formosa ketch. We removed a perkins 4108 diesel and just replaced it with the qt 10. I know this motor is super small for a 28000lb sail boat but this motor believe or not can still push us between 5.5 and 6 kts. I have also been slowly accumulating 20 lithium batteries from valence so im up to 690 amps @ 48 volt. And I dont think ive ised more than 50 ah at a time. Im basically done on the inside im about to start on the topsides (paint and varnish and some epoxy work.) If you ever want to check things out in San Diego we would love to show you around (the water). I cant believe your allready at 31 weeks! Almost there😁 good job you 2

Hi Jordon, love your video’s, but I did prefer the ones which you where doing the builds, I personally think you would do better with “ This is how you do it “ video’s than the tours, I am sure some of your other followers would say the same, why don’t you go buy a dirt cheap boat and start again, I am sure that it wouldn’t matter how long it take you to rebuild the boat. Out of all the other videos that I watch your how to do it videos were amongst the very very very best, I now look back through some of your old videos and use them to remind me how to do things. Most of the videos that are out there at the moment are about getting from A to B to C to D and so on, as I say I do prefer the “how to do it videos”

The problem is time/money/viewership on this. Although there is a small audience for DIY, it's about ten times less for us than with our boat tour videos. This means that we'll get ten times less revenue, but production cost is much much more for DIY because we'd have to not only buy the boat, but fund the restoration. Even with KZbin revenue and Patreon it's at BEST a zero sum game, but more likely what will happen is we'd end up losing a bunch of money instead, which is what happened with Freebie. Essentially it's a double edged sword with less revenue and more overhead and production cost. Our time is best spent doing what we're doing and saving our money for our next boat.
