Easy Catalan crea material audiovisual en català per a aprenents i professors de català. En aquest vídeo som a la Fira de Santa Llúcia, Barcelona, per explicar les tradicions nadalenques més curioses de Catalunya: el Tió i el Caganer. Dues tradicions força escatològiques, és a dir, que tenen a veure amb els excrements, o el que anomenem col·loquialment ‘caca’.
Easy Catalan creates audio visual content in Catalan for both Catalan learners and teachers. In this video we are at the Santa Llúcia Fair, in Barcelona, to explain the weridest Christmas traditions in Catalonia: the Tió and the Caganer. They are two quite scatological traditions, that’s to say that they have a lot to do with excrement, or as we say normally, ‘poo’.

Quan vaig anar a Barcelona a finals de l'any passat, vaig veure els caganers als aparadors. Hi en havia molts polìtcs i esportistes, sobre tot els jugadors del Barça. Veure cagar Messi, Suárez i Ter Stegen va ser massa divertit, però també totalment enigmàtic. La meva mare ho va trobar una mica repugnant, però de todes maneras ens va fer curiositat. Ara és explicat. Gràcies. M'agraden molt els vostres vídeos. Jo amaria si vosaltres en seguíssiu fent.

Que curiosa esa tradicion. En Brasil "cagar" és una expression un tanto vulgar, solo se utiliza entre amigos y familia. Eu comi algo que não me fez bem, tá me dando vontade de cagar. ;)

"Cagar" é um verbo extremamente grosseiro em qualquer variante do português. 😜

Jo pensava que això del caganer era damunt de tot una manera d'expressar la felicitat. A una casa sense caganer no hi ha felicitat, no cal que sigui una llar catalana. Sí, és aixó, a un Nadal sense caganer no hi ha felicitat.

Why is that in some places the subtitles don't match exactly what the speaker says. for example: "1:34 , he says: "algo així", but you write: "Alguna cosa així". "algo" is wrong? Does this means he is not a native catalan speaker, or do catalans also mix in some castillan words sometimes? And 1:36 he says something like: "pea a pá" (coudn't really understand), but you write "fil per randa". He sounds like he has an italian accent. Could he be speaking a dialect or something? Yes, the first expression “algo” it comes from spanish. It is very usual in catalan speakers but it is also incorrect. Same with “pe a pa”, it is an spanish expression which means something like “from the begginig till the end”

Dario Puig I won't enter into the independence question, but Catalan is a distinct language, not a dialect of Spanish.

At the end all languages aire transitionnal from one language to another. So you have to say also that spanish is a transition from catalan to portuguese. All languages aire equal, only humans discriminate.
