*MarHaba ustaza, at about **2:12** in the video, can I used the verb barooH (I go) interchangeably with Ray-Ha?Shukran.*

If you want to say "I go to the supermarket" then definitely use ba-ruH. However, use rayeH (m.), rayHa (f.), or bedi aruH to indicate that you're going to the supermarket now or in the near future.

Why are there male and female version for the first person ('I go')? Whenever I see arabic verb tables they only mention one gender for the first person of the verb, is it normal that the first person forms in different genders for all verbs?
@LearnLevantineArabic
@LearnLevantineArabic 6 жыл бұрын
To say "I'm going" or "ana ra-yeH" we are using an active participle of the verb, and it has to agree with gender and number.

Hi. I just found your channel and subscribed. I have a question about the First Person Singular verb in the present tense and what happens when the prefix ب is added. From my understanding, when the prefix ب is added to the الفعل المضارع المتكلم المفرد, the prefix of the first person singular أ is deleted and the vowel shifts over to the ب. So for example, انا ادرس becomes انا بَدْرُس، اتمنى becomes بَتْمَنَّى، احكي becomes بَحْكي، and so on. I assume that the أ prefix is deleted in this case to make it easier to pronounce. Is what I said correct?

Hi John. Thank you for joining! In Levantine Arabic, verbs in the present tense can be conjugated using ب. This happens with all the pronouns not just the first person: أنا بدرس، انت بتدرس، هيّ بتدرس. However, you can also conjugate the verb without ب. If you are using two verbs in one sentence, you only add ب to the first one.

Learn Arabic Thanks for the reply. Yes, I understand that the ب is used for all present tense verbs when it is the main verb, but I am specifically talking about the first person singular and it's prefix أ. The person prefix أ is deleted when ب is added, while the ن, ت, ي prefixes all remain after ب prefix is added. I mean for example هو بيكتب، هي بتكتب، نحنا منكتب So the person prefixes all remain. While the first person singular prefix أ, for example انا بكتب, is deleted. Is this correct?

Yes, absolutely. That's correct. You can also drop the ي prefix with (he) and (they), so it becomes: هو بكتب، همّ بكتبو. It is commonly dropped for easier pronunciation.
