Lee Oskar MM (Melody Maker) in the Key of G check out the Melody Maker in the Key of G by lee Oskar. That's the harp you want for this song.

If you can bend you are fine with a standard G harp... You don't need the major 7th for this song, so a Paddy Richter may be a better choice than the MM if the 3 bend is all you need right available without bending.

I started to learn this in key of C but couldn't get the first note because it's a draw bend note. I've been playing for about a year but with very little practice. It's only lately I've been able to get single notes with minimal corrections here and there so bending notes is not something I can do yet. I'll try it in the key of G.. thanks so much for this tutorial

Hi Paul, there are no silly questions! You're better off with a C for my lessons as that's the most common key that I use. It's worth having a range of keys for different styles and sounds but start with a C. Each key has a different range of notes as they are built to play in a specific key. G harps have a lower sound than C harps. Cheers. Liam

Indicating the type of harmonica used in the title. i.e. (G) Then those of us who are beginners with their cheap C harmonica can perhaps pass over those not using C and find a video that does use it. Hi Scott, it's pretty repetitive so I haven't gone through with a full tab. It would just be a case of the odd note changing here or there, but should be almost a repeat of verse 1.

why wouldn't I be using an A minor harp (Lee Oskar) rather than a G that you are using?

Hi Charles. You don't always have to use the key of harmonica that is the key of the song. It would be possible to play on an A minor harmonica, you would just need to use a different tab. The 'inflections' - where the bends are, the tone, would be slightly different too. Have you read anything about positions? Cheers, Liam

Liam: Yes I know a limited amount about positions. I play mostly blues so I understand the cross harp selections (key of A plays a D harp, etc). But I understood that if the song were in say, A minor, and I was playing a Lee Oskar, which are natural minors and have converted the key for you, then I'd play the A minor harp. LIstening to others play this song on KZbin another person played a D harp. Just wondering so that when they ask me to play this song, I get it right while miked and onstage. lol

Hi Charles. It's possible to play it on a D, on a G, and on an A minor harp. The notes will all be in different places though for each key of harp, so you need to have a definite plan worked out regarding which harp you're going to use and what tab you're following way before playing it live. If you follow my video, you'll be playing in third position, which works really well for minor key stuff. Have a listen to the way it sounds in this video and if you like it, follow my tab on a G harp. If you prefer the sound in that guy's video with a D harp, go with him but make sure you use a D harp. If you're using an A minor harp, you'll have to find a lesson specifically for that (less likely as the minor key harps are a bit more rare so not taught so much online). Hope this helps! I hope I'm understanding your question correctly: harmonicas are made to play in a specific key. Most players use one harmonica to play in two or three keys (with enough knowledge and technique this is achievable). In theory you can force any key harmonica to play in any key, but most people just have lots of different key harmonicas to make it easier. What key do you have? Cheers, Liam

I recommend trying to work this out, as it will really help your learning. My advice is to check my tab against the notes on a C harmonica, then see where those notes are on a G harmonica (for example, the first note in my tab -4 is a D on a C harmonica, which would be a -2 on a G harmonica), and the tab who generate on the G harmonica would be in second position. You could then use that tab to play this song in second position on any key harmonica. Cheers, Liam
