Oh my god same! I hate how I can't act normal around people! Like at work I'm super quiet so I'm afraid people think I'm some creep or murderer or something😫 and dude I do that too! I hate entering a class with a lot of people.

raymond perez Omg another GUY with this problem?! I have the same problem. My voice sounds so deep and quiet and monotone when I'm around others at college, but at home, I'm a social butterfly. I don't think of people judging me like of I make a mistake or something. I used to but that stopped like a year ago. Now I just feel regular anxiety, I'll be shaking and feeling really nervous and my heartbeat will speed up. I only think of how people are judging me now because of how my voice sounds, and I also worry about how they judge me as being that shy, quiet guy(even though I'm not). I don't worry about messing up and embarrassing myself or anything.

My social anxiety is extremely high which makes me extremely good with people. I can see and analyse things that other people just don't see or understand because they are not sensitive to others and I can relate to people in a way most people cannot. I listen, empathise and hit them where it is deep. However... when I cannot contain my anxiety, which is half of the time, I cannot be around people and that is extremely confusing to my friends and family since I don't look like I have a problem.

I can’t even physically speak to people I stutter, I try so hard to speak normally and I just sound like I’m lifting weights and trying to talk at the same time, when it gets really bad I sound like I’m about to cry it is extremely embarrassing. @@newleft2254 I tried propanolol it did lower the physical symptoms of anxiety and helped with speaking but only minimally. I also tried lexapro but the first day I took it I started getting muscle cramps in my face, jaw, neck and diaphragm/abdomen. I took them for 6 months but my anxiety would fluctuate some days I could speak perfectly other days my anxiety was worse so I stopped taking them and I still have those muscle cramps but they only occur when I try to relax, so trying to fall asleep is harder now. I’m just waiting to finish this semester of school so I can go see a psychologist.

@austinhernandez2716

I've been fighting my anxiety for 3 years now and now I realize that I can't beat it by myself, I need help. It has certainly gotten better, for example I have a few friends and gave been socializing in class and hanging out with a few, and even have two friends as roommates next semester(and having friends like this is a completely new experience to me). But my anxiety isn't won't go away. I used to be nervous just to be in social situations, but it's gotten much better. I just struggle to talk. My voice sounds very deep, quiet, and monotone. I worry about how people are judging me off of my voice. And that's when the anxiety starts. People think I'm just quiet or shy, but that's not true at all. When comfortable, like around family, I'm very social with a loud, confident voice. I'm also very humorous and act obnoxious sometimes. I want everyone to be able to see who I really am but the anxiety is preventing it. I found some local therapists but they're so expensive I can't afford it. I got fired at my first job because of my anxiety affecting my work performance, but I did good at my second one, but the anxiety makes it very hard to work. I'm going to try to start back working for the summer, but I'll be only like on minimum wage, and most of the money will be going towards college. No one, not even my family, knows about my anxiety. I told my mom once and she thought I was lying. My dad doesn't believe in mental disorders. My family is so used to me be like the most social person there that I know they won't believe me. I also don't want them to be involved or know anything about it because it's embarrassing to me. That's the main reason I want to use an online therapy program.

You can call your doctor's office and schedule an appointment and tell them them that you'd like to talk about medication or therapy for a mental health issue over the phone. That way the doctor is already aware of the subject.

I have extreme social anxiety to the point I can’t physically speak. I am entering my last two college classes. I struggle alot to speak on class, for some strange reason I can’t say my own name when introducing myself and in my previous semesters when I had my classes from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, I would go all day without eating, simply because I get really anxious ordering food and eating in front of others. In communications class my classmate told me “you clearly know what you are talking about, so why do you struggle to present?” I’ve asked myself the same question but when I get really anxious it’s as if my brain turns off I forget my words and make mistakes. I’ve come to just expect the worst outcome, in order to not feel so upset about myself afterwards. I also struggle a lot at work since I can’t communicate well. I haven’t made any friends in college, I just have a small group of friends from high school. At work I have had coworkers call me stuck up, but they just don’t understand how difficult it is to function socially, even though I want to be able to socialize and build relationships like everyone else, it is really hard to do so. Hopefully I can learn to manage better so it doesn’t affect my car once I graduate. I am proud of myself though I have gotten this far despite the struggle.

ACT, acceptance and commitment therapy argues against CBT, and says that you cannot control your thoughts. It instead seeks to divide the observing self from the thinking self, since they are two different things. You are not your thoughts, you are the observing self observing the thoughts that you have. Thoughts are involuntary. Instead accept your thoughts for what they are just thoughts, and not reality.

ethanSADTP for various stress or fear disorders cbt has the strongest scientific evidedence, thats why its the number one therapy suggested by psychologists for these kind of problems. And cbt is not aboyt controling per se, its about noticing that the thought is not logical and changing it to a logical one.

My family has a history of mental illness and anxiety in our past and present generations. I have noticed that as the younger generations grows up they also become more atheist and if they have anxiety they struggle immensely with their illness to the point of suicide. My faith has strengthen me and many in my family and we do well in life despite our setbacks. However, when my younger family show signs of struggles they want nothing from prayer and faith and the anxiety overcomes them. Have you made studies on how faith can help people overcome anxiety? I truly don't understand how my young family members who are struggling with this conditions only seem to rely on themselves. I thank God that in my worst moments I could turn it over to him in prayer. God Bless everyone struggling with this but leave it in God's hand and pray and trust.

I completely agree. When we have God, we have Him as our anchor. Thinking that He's always with us makes any mental issue a bit bearable and that is a great thing for me. We still have hope somehow that all will be well at the end of the day as long as we trust in Him.

Bruh Ik what u mean - mega struggled to meet ppl and feel comfortable my first yr because of just the large amount of ppl and the stress of speaking to them. Ur career isn’t ruined tho - it’s all about baby steps. For me it was going to stores on my own with self-checkout, then branching out to asking employees at the store for help finding things etc. Going to one school club meeting, than trying a second. Maybe think abt a community college or a place close to home, so you can study but still take breaks at home to recharge. It takes time, but push yourself slowly out of your comfort zone and you’ll be shocked with how far you can actually get.
