features ? Unlocked, no pay huge extra cash for bog standard features. M1 series is awful in that regard. So many users locked out because of so called "custom firmware", for bog standard applications, locked to one supplier/dealer etc

I had a MoTeC in my boat, the after sale support is second to none. Any issues they were remote dialling in that day to fix it. The UI looks pretty old and there’s an overwhelming amount of data on each tab but it works and works well

Curious as to what their new series will be like and when they will be released. I would like to see more EGT thermocouple capability from the one ECU without the need for an expander.
@spooler78284 ай бұрын
More I/O's are important. I had to step up my Emtron from a KV8 to a KV12 and add two additional add on boxes (individual EGT's and additional add on I/O) to get all the sensor data I wanted on my 370ztt VQ37vhr.

Certainly is not a torque based ECU unlike GPRP Pro. There’s also a big difference between ECUs in how features are implemented and the quality of the implementation. Some are filled with bugs. Others, like MoTeC have virtually no bugs. The software is the most important part, and often the part that is done poorly on many ECUs.
@blow0me4 ай бұрын
With Link software written by computer gamers, not tuners. As much as I dislike Motec, Link has the most horrific software.

We cant be that far away from AI self tuning. The AI just needs enough sensor info and away it goes! (skynet takes the 2030 F1 title!)
@hpa1014 ай бұрын
How good would that be! You'd have to be pretty brave to put your hands up to test that sort of system though....😅 If you believe the marketing material we actually already have hands off 'self tuning' features on many ECUs. The reality leaves a lot to be desired compared to the marketing however vs a competent tuner - Taz.

I was going to ask the same question. It can't be that far away. I remember thinking about this way back in 2005. What additional sensors is it going to take for the computer to really self-learn with some specific pre-program parameters to follow? I'm ready to order up my chat GTP Tuner software right now.
@patx354 ай бұрын
We already have auto tuning in ECU software long before neural networks were a thing. A human still needs to input the parameters, and make sure that nothing bad happens during the tuning process.
@andiszile3 ай бұрын
ML is best used for things that can't be written as an algorithm. I think general ECU tuning is a very algorithmic process. So you don't need a neural network for auto-tune functionality. But complete auto tune would still require a hefty CPU or at least firmware size to contain all the extra logic. ML could be useful in an ECU for protections and watching for unusual behavior. Like knock detection could be one feature where it could be superior.

I dont feel offended why motec ecus are extremely expensive. But when someone spends huge money buying it, why do they charge money to unlock each and every feature after charging huge sums for purchase? Now the M1 i have never dealt with them, but i assume its just paper weight until you pay thousands more for installation of an onboard software package first. Plus extra for features. Coming from m600 guy.

My megasquirt almost 20 years ago ran off an injector model + VE table and corrections. Was it ahead of its time? EDIT: Not sure what version it was. Like 2 or 3?

Mega squirt is not even in the same stratosphere. Ms has the electronics and capabilities of an ecu made 20 years ago as well. What’s funny is M800 came out over 20 years and is still a great ecu. I’m not even a motec guy. But I’m def an MS hater. Trash.

Are we still limited to running a windows-based laptop to piggyback in order to tune these motecs or have they upgraded to iPad Pro or Android tablet app based tunning yet?
@TheBCninja4 ай бұрын
Upgraded? That's a weird way of looking at that 😂
@DJ_Driven4 ай бұрын
What I meant was instead of relying on a Windows base PC if we can use an app-based platform like a iPad Pro or a Android tablet. All the electronics and technology should be built into the ECU and Link via Bluetooth or direct Wi-Fi connection for programming. This is the direction of most of the big OEM for service tech tools relying on tablets now.
@TheBCninja4 ай бұрын
@DJ_Driven I could see them utilizing tablet support for the guage views on the dash, but I don't think they will really want to put in the work to create mobile app versions of their software. Motec is basically coding for car nerds, and I don't know anyone who codes by taping on their iPad screen 😅

Worst bang for buck ecu on the market. But for people where money doesnt play a role it sure is a way of lying to yourself you have the best ecu with the best tune because you spent the most money 🙂↕️But thats motorsport isnt it?
@hpa1014 ай бұрын
You can spend $20,000 USD on an ECU from other brands if you just want to spend money to be fair. MoTeC isn't a budget brand, but they're not top of the motorsport food chain either price wise. Interested to hear what you hated about the M1 series software and hardware in your personal experience if you have used it and what you would choose instead for the same application/s now. It's OK to not like a product 🤘 - Taz.
