Traction control is often more a hinderance to performance rather than an assistant to it, expect for motorsport applications and in high end exotics. Well, Powertune Australia told us they had developed a traction control system that would blow our mind. Why were we to say no to try it out.

Interested in a follow-up of turbosmart e-gates. Lots of initial press but I don't think I've seen anyone actually use one. Some datalogs of performance Vs pneumatic types would he interesting. And a few bucks from turbosmart for the effort I would hope.

Good to see this stuff starting to make its way into the aftermarket. GPS derived speed is problematic at high rates (50hz) and at high accuracy rates such as 10hz it's not fast enough to be useful. The correct answer here is an inertial navigation sensor that uses sensor fusion (mag/Accel/gyro/GPS) to derive very high speed data (500hz) both in body frame (xyz) and globe frame (LLA). It will also provide lateral velocity data for cornering traction control. Hoping to have a product later this year.

Syvecs/Life Racing have been the reference for Motorsport traction and have been doing similar for years….mapping on slip v yaw / lateral g / speed. Recursive decay algorithm is key for smooth power. 12 traction maps all mappable against practically anything with variable gain, recursive decay and slip map adders. Gps track marker can change settings per track. 100hz GPS for ground / radar etc. I run these and the best thing about them is the traction system. It’s good that motec are doing the same.

car and truck manufactories... please take notes of this... not only for a car.. i drive several big trucks for work.. and when i get off the highway and trying to make a turn on a speed witch i know the truck can do ( usually around 50 km/h, depending on the radius of the bend).. the traction controll and ESP kick in and start to apply the brakes.. that is something i dont want because i can feel the weight of the trailer pushing the truck to the outside of the corner witch makes it unsafe.. sometimes i floor it to override the ESP so it doesnt apply the brakes but only cuts power/boost with the TCS so the problem is not just HP and car related.. this can also be helpfull in trucks...

Would like to upgrade my RB S30 to a decent traction control setup in the future, but I am not sure if you could run a good enough setup from a Link G4+ Extreme ECU. Best Link available when I built it but can it run something like this given that the Motec is twice the price and much newer. Its quite driveable without traction control but I'm sure having traction control would make it so much quicker tough the first 3 gears and a massive difference in first.

Check out Andy Forrest talk about his AWD traction control system on his old 1500HP wrx WTAC. He uses GPS in combination with known change in speed for each wheel. Is the powertune dude an independent dealer of MoTec- he's gone to the effort of writing this up but MoTec doesn't offer the code? 👍 thumbs up ;) Bmw MHD does boost per gear or torque per gear then via tunerpro throttle closure intensity. As a standard car BMW traction control is fairly sensitive but i guess they have to for the average driver who hits snow or water on the Autobarn at 180
@protuningaustralia6795

They mentioned any Motecs sold by Powertune will come with their custom traction management strategy built into the firmware. Haltech is capable of the same strategy on some Elites (1500 & 2500) and Nexus, it's a matter of the time and knowledge to set it all up. The fact that Powertune are providing this with the Motec certainly makes it an attractive proposition.

@@MotiveVideo I just mean visually, from the perspective of a person watching the video. I could see it swerving with no traction control when looking out the windshield, but with traction control on we were just watching Andrew primarily and what we could see out the window to the side wasn’t as good for seeing how straight the car was or wasn’t going.

Cool as fuck. This was promised 10yrs ago with vbox TC. We gotta get on top of this shit! EV is here and is no joke. We need more software ppl in this space. I love EV’s, but we gotta treat ICE like rocket engines; extract max value with software

Use your ecu of choice and relate rpms to boost pressure. Your welcome 😂 Otherwise wheel-speed sensor and drive by wire would be another go too option
