thanks a lot, very instructive! Since you asked for a constructive criticism: I would have like you to pronouce the diphthongs like iê as in natural speed in the whole video after explaining it. You were trying to make it easier or more understandable, but I think it is better to explain clearly, but perform naturally and not more clearly than is natural, because students need to learn the natural, fast, wild, real language. On an explanatory level, the video was highly valuable to me. Greetings from Austria! :)

Chào Michael :) 1. "oa" and "uâ" are similar, since they are the combinations of the glide /w/ and a vowel ("a" and "â" respectively). But we write "o" or "u" to represent the glide /w/ according to spelling rules. 2. "êu" and "au" are different from the case above, since they are combinations of a vowel ("ê" or "ă" - I emphasize "ă", not "a") and the final semi vowel "u". That's it Michael :)

Chào Kristan :) As far as I know, Rosetta Stone (and other series like Pimsleur etc.) uses Northern dialect, so I'm not sure you are learning Southern dialect (I don't know any professional e-resourses for learning Southern dialect). People in the North can understand you quite well even if you speak Southern, just like American people understand British ones, so no worries please. You will adjust your Vietnamese very quickly as soon as you get to Hanoi. ;)

You're really smart :D I did make a mistake at the word KHUYA, then tried to fix it. That's why hehe. I'm thinking of your idea. Have you ever been here, Ho Chi Minh city? I can make a video introducing some places but I'm afraid it will be a cultural video, not a language one :D

I just pay attention ^^ Yes I have been to HCMC, twice so far and I hope I can come back soon. I have some friends there. A cultural video is good too. It's like a short break from a language video? Like, recess in between classes ;)

Chào Mikael, "uâ" is not a diphthong, it actually is the combination of the glide /w/ and the vowel "â". Because the glide is not the nucleus of a syllable, we have to pronounce "â" stronger and longer. I will make more videos on Pronunciation to explain about this :)

Hello Annie, great vidéos, thank you for making them ! but i dont understand, you say there are 3 diphtong only, so 3 possible vowelles association (except for the spelling rules u explained), but in the sentence "xin CHAO, hen gap LAI" , i see 2 diphtongs that you didnt mention (ao, and ai). im a little confused

If you haven't seen the final sounds video yet, watch that. I believe she address o and i as final sounds, instead of diphthongs, although they seem still diphthongs to me. .

Hi Annie! I'm using Rosetta Stone to learn Vietnamese but your videos are very helpful! My question - is it important for me to pay attention to northern or southern dialects? I seem to be learning the southern dialect but I will be spending time in Hanoi. Will that matter?

Sorry i didnt able to connect before. Ok i understand now with uâ thank you. You are super. But the sounds "oa" like hoa , "âu" like châu , "êu" like nếu and "au" like sau it s the same case like "uâ" in gliding with /w/ ? I m not sure for âu and "êu" if i have glide with /w/ ? Thank you very much Annie !

Hello Your video is super. Congratulation. and thank you very much. But i would like to know if "uâ" like tuần is a diphtong ? Because you dont say in the video ? I have to pronouce like in the others diphtong saying the ""u" stronger and longer than"â" ? Thank you.

A comment to improve the next video ... mmm, I don't know what you should improve. Sometimes there's a small error in the video, like at 3:05 in this video, the KHUYA explanation shows and disappears two times. But that's ok, just a very small thing. Other than that, the videos are ok, the sound is clear. This is just an idea: could you introduce us to your environment? Tell us about the area where you live? Good places to walk, eat, drink, see movie, ... Maybe I would recognize some places =)

Annie ơi, vậy còn OI, AI, ƠI, IA, không được tính là nguyên âm đôi hả Annie?
@LearnVietnameseWithAnnie
@LearnVietnameseWithAnnie 10 жыл бұрын
