Thanks! I just increased my iCloud capacity, uploaded all my backed up photos from my PC, and set up shared libraries. I was hoping to be able to have my wife pull photos from the shared library and move them to her personal library. From your explanation, it looks like that is not possible since I set up the library and contributed all the photos. Thanks for the explanation. I wasn’t hearing or seeing that so clearly in other references.

Fantastic in-depth coverage of the iCloud shared library feature. This should be in Apple's documentation! 🙂

Hi Joel , your video was 🔥. At last someone explained how it works really :) I had to setup the shared library a while ago for my wife and 2 kids. On a side note , subscribing to the 200 GB iCloud+ to share the storage but using an individual Apple Music subscription is not easy at all. With the Apple one that is really expensive, buying what I needed was a challenge. Apple One individual gives only 50 GB, I wanted 200 GB for the whole family.

Great video Joel. I’m considering moving me and my wife’s libraries from Google Photos into iCloud Photos. We’ve each got 50,000 photos, mostly of our kids, and likely a large majority of them are duplicates that we’ve been sharing back and forth with each other over the years. I’d love to get you explanation of how iCloud treats duplicates in Shared Libraries, and any best practices for making the switch from Google Photos to iCloud Photos shared libraries.

Hi, Joel great video. I have a doubt. Can we have shared library with members from different country. I am planning on starting one with my family but next year i will be moving to a different country, what will happen to the shared library when I change my region in my Apple ID? In fact I was planning on sharing my iCloud storage as well with my family. Will I be able to continue to share my iCloud even after moving to a different country? Also related to this I am an Apple Music subscriber, what will happen to my Library and playlist once I change my region? Thanks.

I have a question, not shared library related but related to I cloud photos. When you choose to use i cloud it sent the video or pic to the cloud and only leaving a thumbnail on your photos app in your phone, is there s way to exclude certain videos or photos from being offloaded, since sometimes i have videos I want to be able without internet

1. how to add multiple pics to shared lib after they have been clicked. 2. if member A wants to exit shared lib but member B want to transfer pics shared by A to their personal lib. is there a work around?

I want to share all of my old family photos with family members and keep the information (i) that I have input for each photo. Will it keep the information when shared? I see that it doesn’t have that information in Shared Album.
@LearnwithjoelАй бұрын
Hi @KarenskaJazz! Great question! You are correct, this information would not sync or show up on a photo that is in a Shared Album, you can only comment on the items in there. However if you put photos and videos in a "Shared iCloud Photo Library" it will show up on all devices for you and other people...but it depends on where you're putting the info... If you're on a Mac and you get the "Info" on a photo/video, you can add a Title, Caption and Keyword, but on an iPhone or iPad, you can only add a Caption. If you write something in the Caption, it will visually show on all parties devices. Now if you add a Title or Keyword to a photo/video from Apple Photos on your Mac, it will sync to other devices on any iPhone or iPad, but the key is you need to do a search for the keyword or title. So for example if you add the keyword "Vacation" to a photo within Apple Photos on a Mac, that keyword Vacation will sync to your iPhone/iPad, but in order to see it, you need to do a search in the Photos app on the devices for that word Vacation. Then it will show you any photo/video tagged with that keyword. This can be pretty helpful! I hope that helps! THANK YOU so much for watching! It is appreciated more than you know! Shared libraries are very risky. When people delete your photos you loose them. I highly recommend a backup of your photos before putting them in a shared library!

When people delete photos from the shared library they go back to the personal library of the person who made the upload and are not permanently deleted, Apple says this on the official website
@Learnwithjoel8 ай бұрын
Hey @mrCastrinho_! Can you send a link to where Apple says this on their website? From what I see, they say the following: "Items that you and other participants delete are placed in the Recently Deleted album, where they remain for 30 days and then are permanently deleted. You can restore deleted items to the Shared Library before they’re permanently deleted. If another participant deletes a photo or video that you contributed, you receive a notification and continue to receive notifications every 7 days". This is from the following link: support.apple.com/guide/photos/remove-photos-from-a-shared-library-pht9c596faf7/mac#:~:text=See%20Photos%20settings.-,In%20the%20Photos%20app%20on%20your%20Mac%2C%20click%20the%20Library,%3E%20Delete%20%5Bnumber%5D%20Photos. I look forward to reading what you referring to! Thanks so much!
