The rounding block did make a difference in how it hung. I love your Scottish accent. I'm from Michigan, USA, and am learning leather working from KZbin. I love all the different styles of work people do, some more relaxed and some very professional. I definitely don't want to take myself too seriously. I love that you sing, it's happy work even if it gets frustrating sometimes. You are not the only singing artist I've watched. I sing when I work too sometimes so that makes me want to watch you more. Thank you for the lovely video. I have a dog and never thought to make him a leash. Now I learned a new braiding technique and can't wait to make one. :-D

Robin Smith I am more of a consultant for a few large saddle making companies these days and don’t have time to make saddles much. I try to make one every year for fun. The other leather work like belts and bags. Is just me having fun. Lots of people do a job. I like my job as a job and as a hobby. The videos I do are to help people get the same laughs and fun I do

ohh, how do you make this stronger for big dogs? My smallest mastiff is 240 pounds, they usually are loose on the ranch,but sometimes need to be on a leash and sometimes they forget I am holding them and they snap a lot of leads. I finally made a collar out of horse harness leather and used buckles we use on our Belgians .

To people who want to use this as a dog lead, leather stretches. So wind it around a strong wire or stronger non stretchy chord. This looks like fun to make!
@UKSaddlerytrainingcoursesuk5 жыл бұрын
This leather is fine for a small dog. If you are using it on a stronger dog. Use a thicker leather. Or as said wrap round cord. If you only have the light leather.

@UKSaddlerytrainingcoursesuk Жыл бұрын
It has been awhile since I did that video. I think it is about 3 or 4 mm. You can make it wider or narrower. It is down to the look and strength you are after. If you wanted it for a stronger dog. You should go thicker. I thought no that thickness is about 1.8mm.

I was the same as I am now. Very shy and quiet. I was taken engines out of cars when I was mega young. I remember getting paid £10 for taking engines out when I was 14 The man who was to help me was about 30 he got paid £10 and done all the hard work. The reason they asked me to do it and paid me more . Was I could operate the sedaline torch. My father showed me how to do that when I was about 11 . I did that a lot for him on his yard. This video was not meant to be. I was just about to leave the school and the wife turned up with the cam and said . You know you want to do one. I did my usual picked up the first tool or bit of leather I seen and thought what the hell will I make for a video. That is where that amateur hour came from. The camera was p ing me of I could not see in the 3 inch screen what I was doing, One day I will buy a bigger screen . So that I can see what the cam is seeing.

Type into google kieran making a canvas and leather bag . You will see my nephew making the bag. This is also his first time ever on a sewing machine. Find on his channel the other leather video he did. On it you will see him making a really nice bracelet. Then if you can subscribe to his channel You will make him happy. He wants subscribers . After that you can ignore his videos. They are just a kid doing video game videos. He will be doing another leather video soon When I get the time to let him. I help him a tiny bit in the videos. He has no strength due to his disability (he has a wheelchair if he goes out) I try not to help him to much

Maybe next vid you can knock out a quick pigskin lined gladstone bag or something...on your tea break...?? Thanks always !!

I have been looking for a site like yours for some time, brilliant, am now subscribed. A question,when you make the handle instead of sewing a leather strap to secure it is there some way of back braiding it into the lead ? Looking farward to your vids. Pity your not in Australia I would sign up for a course . Cheers.
@UKSaddlerytrainingcoursesuk7 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul. Yes you can back splice /braid the handle instead of putting the leather on. You could braid then put a braided knot over the join instead of the leather.I have been asked to go to Australia a few times. The problem is the cost . It takes a week of travel to get there and back. This ends up costing a lot . instead of charging for a week I end up having to charge the price of 2 weeks to do one weeks work.I might one day work it in with a visit to my sister and her kids. this will cut the costs down
