Leather Splitter Maintenance - How To Sharpen The Weaver Economy Splitter

Today we will take the sharpening of the Weaver Economy Splitter step-by-step. While my Weaver Economy Splitter is not in bad shape, it’s best to sharpen sooner as it’s easier to keep the blade sharp and honed. You would follow the same steps if your splitter is really dull. You would just need to spend more time on the first step or even start with a courser grit.
Some people might postpone regular maintenance. I would suggest staying on top of the maintenance as it makes working with the tools more fun and enjoyable. It also makes the use of the tools safer. In the case of this tool it takes less force to use the tool and you are less likely to hurt yourself with a sharp leather splitter.

You should make some kind of jig/gauge to set your blade with. It would save you time. A piece of plastic cutting board or other hard object, shaved down to where your bald is set now, will save you time in the future dialing in your blade setting.

Some diamond sharpening stones are less expensive then they have been. This is just another option
