Hi Tony! I also have a hammer addiction and the Thor Copper/Hide hammer has become my new favorite. I suggest that you buy a bigger hole punch instead of modifying your 1mm punch. KS Blade has a 1.5mm hole punch for $29 and Sinabroks offers 1.4mm to 1.9mm hole punches from for $60.

AWESOME u find a chipper one ! I think I need this hammer too 😅!!! & the Thor hammer is AWESOME whit lot of options!!! (From 400g between to 1200g ) & I use the Sinabroks puncher (2 & 8) whit 1,2 mm & for larger bags I use the 1,5 mm !!! When I need a single puncher I put one out from the 2 puncher & this is Nearly to be Perfect (I hope Sinabroks made a single puncher too in the future) Thx Tony ✌🏾♥️🌍

For the next review, how about some stitching line groovers? There are many out there and some are a pain in the ass to use (the easyly slip on the leather when you use them and mess up your leather project). I know you don't use a groover in your project but I trust your opinion and I'd love to see you review some of them. (maybe a cheap one compared to a high end one)

I just got my hammer this morning £13 from Amazon. I love it ❤️. I didn't like the shiny varnish on the handle so I stripped it off sanded sealed and used my special beeswax, Italian turpentine, blue cedar oil and a teaspoon of tung oil ointment. I think I am going to try a japanese samurai sword wrap with some kid goatskin on the handle and maybe a large copper half dome on the butt.

Why did you order the hole punch if it was not the size you need? Now that you / we (your subs) know about the "Johnny On the Spot" making of the tool after it's ordered this maker / company should have no problem making the size a customer(s) (all your subs) request. So everyone buy this tool at the size DieselpunkRo needed. It's a win / win for the maker and all the subs. Thanks for the video. Thanks for the tips and appreciate the good work.

I think $43 for a single hole punch is a lot to much and way over priced. Bottom line it’s still just a hole punch. Does it really work so much better punching a hole in leather that it warrants the price tag? Were not talking for a set of punches, this per punch. If you figure with Tony’s patterns we need what 3-4 different sizes of punches? Which would put the cost for these punches at $130-170. That’s a lot of money. My Tandy individual punches will suit me fine and I’ll use the rest of my money on buying leather. But thank you Tony for sharing these tools.
@JF-fx2qv
@JF-fx2qv 3 жыл бұрын
@@perrypike90 A debatable topic indeed. One could say that the steel may be better and holds an edge longer? One could justify the ergonomic shape versus the hours of use for the professional hand tooled leather maker? One could receive some joy from owning what they feel is the best. It maybe a motivator or a award of sorts for a full time leather worker? On the other hand, one may feel a less expensive punch bought, used, and tossed out and bought again may work for them?
@bagramdave883

J F -- I'm with you. Punching is, you could say, one of the most tedious job for a project. I'm not sure I use more than the 1.5 punch except for 6-8 holes per project for rivets. Soooo, I'd pay for a punch that stay sharp because of the steel, makes punching easier and cleaner because of the heft, and more comfortable in the hand for the 500 holes I have to punch. My fingers get cramped and my hands fall asleep from squeezing those tiny handles on the cheap ones. My family buys me nice stuff for my gifts and after I make them a gift. I would get a 1.5 mm from these dudes if they made one.

The item is CA$69 dollars for me. I can order several rawhide/poly hammers from Tandy for that price. If I was a pro like Tony I'd invest, but for casual work that I do, I'll skip it, even though it does look to be really decent.

The store responded with the usual save face messages. There is a guy on Etsy that sells custom made tools as well as his own custom made tools on Etsy. @tracy419
@tracy419 3 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you've seen his recent video, but he says the needles are bought local, 1mm x 7cm with a blunt tip. Also, I haven't yet begun my first project because I'm still gathering tools and supplies, but from all the videos I've been watching, the first thread goes through and is pulled down while the second needle goes in at an upward angle. I think this pulls the first thread down and out of the way. Take this with a grain of salt because I have yet to begin, it's just what I seem to be seeing. Other times, the first needle goes in part way, and the second gets pushed in from the other side while the first is still there which would prevent the second needle from piercing the thread of the first. Then both needles are pulled the rest of the way through and you tighten the thread.

I do not think trying to widen the punch will work. The hole punch size is determined by the inner diameter of the tool. Using a conical sharpener would only reverse the angle of the bevel on the tip, which could possibly achieve the size hole that you want, but it would jam in the tube, rather quickly, I believe.
