Love the concept on this video. I think scissors are a very overlooked tool and furthermore people often put too much emphasis on the knife blade when evaluating a multi-tool. I don't think the blade is very important for a few reasons. First, most people who are into gear and tools probably have a folding knife that will work better no matter what. Second, I prefer small multi-tools and when the blade is so small you might as well use the scissors. Finally, scissors are often a more appropriate or effective tool for day-to-day cutting tasks. I work as a paramedic so you might think I use my knife blade fairly often. But I've only used my knife only once on the job and I rarely used it off the job. My trauma sheers or the snips on my multi-tool handle nearly all my cutting tasks.

I've had a low end Gerber for almost ten years, and a SOG for a little over a year. I purchased a Leatherman Rebar a week or so to give as a Christmas gift, and I've been so impressed I just ordered a Charge for myself. I'm glad to see how the scissors do, since they're one of the tools I'll use the most. Thanks for a great review!

I carry the style CS specifically for the scissors and than a full sized multitool for everything else. I use the scissors on the style CS to cut through nylon webbing, fabric and a whole host of other things. Like my fingernails on the way to something fancy when I forgot to trim them.

You might want to check out the Gerber Legend 800. They have Fiskar scissors and it is able to do some things that Leatherman can. I own both Letherman and Gerber multitools and both work very well.

In my experience, and I've used both, the Micra and the Style scissors may be close in size, but they do not cut the same. For me, carry and effectiveness both matter. My favorite Leatherman is the Super Tool 300, which does not have scissors, but the case my Super tool came with has a small pocket in front that holds a Micra perfectly. The Micra is so light that the extra weight isn't even noticeable, I don't need scissors every day, but when I do need them, I need good ones. This means a scissor based tool. For the things I cut, the Micra cuts much better that the Style, or any other scissors I've tried, and is also easier to carry.

I think the cool thing about the Style CS, is that its a designated scissors. On the other hand, its a designated scissors where as the SURGE seems to be almost as good as the Leatherman scissors, and also has pliers. For me its a trade off, but I'd probably buy the best multi tool for me, and then buy a Style CS (or just a designated multi tool scissors) Thanks for the video, helped a lot! I'm looking to get a MT for when I ride my motorcycle and for work.

RCFlyBoy314 He doesn't have a micra here - the micra is a keychain multitool with the main tool being a pair of scissors. I've heard a lot of bad things about the CS's scissors - the spring/torsion bar breaks easily.

One item I think is worth mentioning, you test the Squirt scissors claiming they're similar to the Micra. The Micra has those little lockup tangs that keep the tool rigid when closed, and those dig into your hand a little. Again, just think it's worth mentioning, the micra does have GREAT scissors.

I absolutely agree with you when it comes to some jobs it is safer, less mess, and just easier to use scissors. But even with the best scissors, unless they are specifically designed to cut tuff stuff, I have a pair which are along the lines of tin snips so a small scissor but beefy and lots of pressure. The tips of any scissor are unlikely to cut anything but good paper and cloth in a single t

The fairly well made scissors is one of the BIG reasons I went with the Juice S2, but they SURE would benefit from the "folded over" style handle the Charge has. Great review Scout.....one of the best!

I heard pre 2004 Wave's had folding scissors (folds even more than scissors shown here). which had longer blades. I wonder if you have any experience with those.

Great video! I felt overall the Juice seemed to be the most well rounded for every task for it's weight to size rattio. It only failed really on the Leather belt but how dull was it compared to the other tools? I would have probably opted for knife blade on both belts if I were tackling a belt. Just my 2 cents and thank you for posting the video very helpfuln deciding my next purchase!

Interesting and informative post. Limits of practically definitively reached. Seems that none of the scissors satisfy every possible need, so the task becomes choosing the multi-tool based on how well the remaining tool set satisfies most of your daily need.

Wow. That looked painful with the smaller handle scissors. I can almost feel the pain on the thumb. I have the Surge and always wonder how well the scissors on the Surge handled vs to the other Leatherman multitools. After watching this video I am glad I got the Surge rather than Charge. The Style CS looks like a wonderful key chain multitool with an awesome scissor. I am going to have to checkout the Style CS.

Not a leatherman, but did you ever test (or use) the scissors on a Wenger Ranger 71 (Gardener Ranger that is)? I'm thinking of buying that one because it has the excellent Wenger sawblade too. I have a Leatherman skeletool CX on me all the time, that Wenger gardener would complement it perfectly. Those scissors do look like the best around on any multitool-knife...

hickness. As an example, I have a pair of the best Tailor scissors designed for cutting coat materials and even they come up against some things they can't cut on the tip. As you were doing, the technique is to feed in the stuff you want to cut and make more smaller cuts near the fulcrum to give full benefit. A recent item I found just sailed through was scissors on fish. They worked great and cut the time down for prep to maybe a quarter. Good test on your part. Take care. mrbluenun

Leatherman (also Victorinox for that matter), should make Swiza type scissors tools. Swiza came up with full length scissor blades for their pocket folding knife. I think if locking mechanism and folding lever is added, it could be very useful scissors.

In some settings, it's more appropriate to pull out a multi-tool scissors, not a pocket knife or a dedicated blade.

I'm thinking of getting a Leatherman Wingman. Can anyone comment on the quality of the scissors and how long the little spring to keep them open lasts (that thin strip of steel that keeps the blades of the scissors apart)? I always feel like that steel will just get weak over time and the scissors won't open up without you having to physically pull open the handles.... :/

Most of these scissors look similar in size. Could the actual difference in cutting ability be attributed to the grind angles of the scissor blades? Perhaps the ones that cut better had steeper grind angles.

The Style CS/Micra scissors are very good, but do beware - once they get dull they're nearly impossible to sharpen because they don't open wide enough. Leatherman won't even sharpen them.
