One interesting thing I notice about this scene, is that when Donkey is told to do something by the humans, he always hesitates. But when Caesar yelled "Leave him!" He instantly obeyed. Could be a subtle foreshadowing of where his true loyalties lie.

Caesar is such a badass character. He refuses to surrender to the primal nature of his world no matter what he goes through. He refuses to use dominance or displays of strength as a leader. Instead, he uses the compassion and honor that Will taught him.

He actually uses dominance quite a lot but in a subtle way both dawn and war. When koba or snow are speaking aggressively toward him he stands up tall while glaring at them in an act of dominance and they both shut the fuck up koba even lowers himself and presents his hand

The sad thing about this, the orangutan was a kid. Ceasar knew it was male, he would know since they're his people. Male orangutans don't grow their side flaps until they fully mature like Maurice. It wasnt just him not standing by watching one of his own get whipped(of course it was also that too), he was speaking out because he would not let a child get tortured

You can tell how important Caesar is to these people, the Cornel knows this and uses it to his advantage, he can kill as many apes as he wants, but he all he needs to do is kill one Caesar
