@@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE Not sure if this is the right place to comment this, but I found out on your playback latency settings thing. Go to audio settings and recording offset. Set to -39 or 40, it goes all the way to about -42.67. This I think makes it faster or fastest. Other thoughts, I would custom a whole bunch of shortcuts, like re-do the zoom in and zoom out, you can make the timeline pointer 1 instead of 2, and make the 2 shortcut the default cross-hair pointer thing, etc and more. Also the large to short track height collapse is useful, I just shortcutted that. Turned the Daw look to more all--black, no midtones level, etc. You also have the draw pointer thing (pencil tool), it's shortcut number 3, or the keyboard key 3, you can draw automation that way, similar to Ableton's ctrl-b pencil tool etc.

hey! I'm also the one who's slowly switching from Ableton to Bitwig rn (that's the reason I'm here), but one thing I gotta tell you. there's actually a possibility to have multiple plugins from different tracks (whether its audio/midi/send or master channel). you just need to switch on "multiple plug-in windows" and off "auto hide plug-in windows"in plug-in section of live settings. and that's funny cause Bitwig has it as a default... but its also definitely better to have two instrument plug-ins at just one channel

It's uncanny at your transition to Bitwig mirrors mine almost exactly - yep - I missed the Drum Bus and Glue Compressor, ... . I've been working with bitwig for six months and in that time I made a huge list of advantages of Bitwig over Ableton which I share with Ableton on a regular basis. I do think it's interesting that the two products seem to be diverging over time. A lot of the training videos related to bitwig deal with things you can do with the grid or modulators etc. - more SOUND design related topics. With Live 12 I'm seeing Ableton put a lot more emphasis on scale awareness and on creative MUSIC making tools like the generative and transform functions, - features that I don't see in Bitwig although I'm sure you can wire something up like them with the Grid. Thanks for sharing your journey - I too have one foot in each DAW right now and it'll remain that way for a while.

I've watched a lot of your videos comparing Bitwig and Ableton, and I agree with a lot of things. But I don't know if you use Max For Live, but I do. There are a lot of plugins that I really like and there is nothing like this in any other DAW. Do you use Max For Live? And if so, have you solved this problem for yourself?
@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE

Used to use a lot of Max devices but Bitwig Grid is far superior. You could recreate almost all devices and there is also a massive community so the Max device you use might already be created in the grid.

💯👍🏻btw: you don’t have to switch off the Scaler Instruments, it goes automatically off is there a second instrument after scaler in the channel 😉 btw 2: check out all the modulation possibilities that Bitwig have, but not with „The Grid“, that’s another UNIVERSE to jump in 🤩🤣

To be more complete, it doesn't switch the signal off, it just blocks it if the new instrument can't handle audio in. You can always blend the original by putting the new instrument in a new layer group(ctrl-g) and then add a new empty channel in that group. The original instrument will play in that new channel. There are more possibilities because you also have an audio in and midi in plugin that you can insert anywhere you want.

I'm looking for a new DAW and would like to start scoring movies in addition to normal music. Is Bitwig suitable for this? Thanks for your video by the way. I'm currently listening to a lot of opinions about Bitwig and Ableton to decide which DAW might be worthwhile. I'm also in the trial period of Ableton and so far I kind of like it better than FL Studio. ^^
@Ron.Swanson.
@Ron.Swanson. 11 ай бұрын
every DAW is dependent on the user. If you can find a flow with the tools within a specific DAW and make them work to your liking, then you should continue using it. So it’s a matter of what works the best for you and what feels the best. If you drive a car, one may be a huge SUV and one may be a Sedan. Whichever one you prefer is for you. As for DAWS, I use ableton, but have briefly used Cubase, which is the DAW that Hans Zimmer uses. But you can make orchestral scores on any DAW, it doesn’t matter
@Noldy__
@Noldy__ 11 ай бұрын
If you want to score movies, be aware Bitwig currently doesn't support videos. You may have to pay for a plugin for that. You can in Ableton. If you're in the Mac env Logic is a good one too. If you have money, Cubase is another option.

@@Noldy__ @Ron.Swanson. Thank you for your answers. I will start a test period with Bitwig and then see what I like more. But I think Ableton is a good choice, as I don't really like the update policy of Bitwig. The good thing is that FL Studio can also be used as a VST in other DAWs, which makes it less disappointing for the money invested in it. ^^

This is indeed an awesome feature from Bitwig, because tracks are actually always hybrid it's not needed to route anymore, it also works great on Shaperbox where you don't need to route the midi trigger like in Ableton, it's just listening to the midi from the track itself. What I like to use most lately in Bitwig are the operators, they are so fantastic, that it's possible to make a 4 bar loop (or 8), and let the operators tell which notes to mute or unmute in each of the bars. Maybe it's now also in Ableton but I did not touch it anymore since 2014.

you only need to select MIDI where you find the options sync/midi/audio. i find it very usefull on the width and panshaper to make a build-up on a riser, in ableton it's also only possible with another midi channel, in Bitwig not. @@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE

For me it’s all about stability. Ableton has given me nightmare. Even now there’s projects that crash Ableton but Bitwig imports perfectly. Also love the layout better, the visual aspect is more inspiring to be, Ableton feel like excel spreadsheet. But the biggest is the fully key command customization. I have short cuts for everything, and they all make sense to me. Can’t do that in Ableton. Haven’t looked back honestly

@@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE ok I take it, those are 2 big reasons. I never installed Bitwig but from all the videos I've watched, I didn't feel tempted to undertake the hassle of such a big change and workflow. Almost 20 years using Live it's not lightweight, actually still today I learn tips & tricks from Ableton. TBH being lucky to have a top notch desktop computer reduces the power hungy issues and also a customized Windows 10 that I learned to configure after years and years of dealing with issues, changed quite significantly the scenario. The OS has quite big responsability. I don't say LIVE is perfect but after having a deployed Windows with the minimum functions and touching the registry makes it very different. I know it's not for everyone though. So I will take your point of view into account since it sounds logical. Thanks

This is so interesting to me, I tried a couple of DAWs by now and went from Reaper to Ableton (and since a while Bitwig) and was baffled how people enjoy Ableton as the routing and FX limitations were just weird. In Reaper you stack FX whatever they are and can route midi and audio to anywhere you like, so it was suuuper weird to me how Ableton limited it all. Bitwig is a great compromise as it allows a looping/clip based workflow, has some more consistency in the UI compared to Reaper but also has way less limitations than Ableton in terms of routing. Coming from Reaper I will always say that Albeton is the outlier here and does it "wrong" :D I don#t know how Logic or Cubase behave with these things though.
@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE
@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE 10 ай бұрын
Are you still in reaper?
10 ай бұрын
@@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE given how cheap Reaper is I have an active license. I do still love many parts of it and I think for a pure recording or mixing session I would absolutely prefer it, but for more production oriented workflows Bitwig just has more to offer (IMHO). As a hobbyist I am allowing myself to jump a bit back and forth. I am still unsure which one serves me best long term.... The only thing I feel both could become better at is midi editing, at least reaper with it's open scripting extensibility allows me to add functionality to the midi editor, but Bitwig could do with some more tools (eg. select every x-th note of the same pitch, invert notes, stuff like that. Ableton Live has some more tools in that direction.
