@@andrewsmith5198 we moved here from Nevada in 1990 and we love it here, we don’t want anything to change. It felt like home as soon as we got here. We were never city people we lived off the grid in Nevada. We had to haul water for our horses. But we had to work in the city and hated to have all of the people around us and we wanted a safer place for our children to grow up. Crime came up to where we lived and many a time I had to sit in front of our door with my shotgun while my husband went outside to check things out. We respect Idahos ways because they are our ways.

I live in the CDA area. Respectfully, you don't know anything about the area. The reason we dislike people from California moving here is that they displace many locals who have lived here their whole life. They are having to find somewhere to live. Many Californians come in paying cash for homes increasing property taxes caused by big developers built a sea of houses ruining the beautiful prairie between Hayden and Spokane. Utilizing more and more natural resources displacing wildlife including bear, wolves, deer, and elk. Crime has increased exponentially. Our aquifer is already vulnerable and can't handle the amount of people moving in. Cost of homes has increased and rent is outrageous now.

Those of us who’ve lived here for most of our lives are definitely feeling the overcrowding. What used to be fields and farms are now mowed down and subdivisions are going in very fast. We moved to Idaho (we now live in Eagle) from California over 20 years ago now and haven't looked back. It's the place that I've lived the longest in my entire life. I've lived in PA, FL, UT and CA and Idaho is truly a great place. We've raised all our kids here. The Boise metro area is big enough to have anything you want (minus the beach), but small enough (and isolated enough) to not have all the issues of bigger cities. My wife is a real estate agent here and has helped so many people move here and for the most part they come here because their values no longer align with their previous state. They aren't looking to change Idaho, but come here because and feel at home. Good luck with your decision!

Fun fact, Idaho is one of the most mountainous states there are in this country. It is also home to the largest designated wilderness area in the entire lower 48 named the frank church wilderness, surpassed only by Alaska. California is mountainous as well but nothing like Idaho. If you flattened out Idahos mountains it would be twice the size of Texas.

Those are neat facts! Another fun fuct: CA has the tallest mountains in the lower 48. Only Alaska surpasses it. Weirdly, Alaska is the the most humid state! I now live in the south ( North Arkansas), moved from North Idaho, so it is strange thinking that Alaska is more humid than Southern USA.

I live in Ketchum. I think its the attitude that is brought in by many Californians that bugs a lot of us. Not only that, but we can't keep up with the human traffic that is coming. When you move to Idaho, come in with a little empathy and understanding that things aren't changing for the better. If you want to have a positive experience, living in Idaho, be apart of the positive change instead of the negative change ❤ one other thing, minimum wage is still $7.25. They can't afford the rise in rent. So when people complain about the prices, be mindful

And that our infrastructure is not set up for the amount of people moving here. The reason people in north Idaho get upset with so many people moving here is because all it the pretty things people want to move here because of... stay beautiful because there hasn't been a ton of people living here. The more people here... the less trees, the less wildlife, the less quiet. Yet there is more traffic, more crime, more restrictive laws, more accidents etc.. Its hard to remain optimistic when there's not many positives for us locals.. we are being forced to live in a larger city (even though we didn't move anywhere), We are saving up to buy houses that we've suddenly found have tripled in price. We are finding our commute times have tripled. Feels like everyone is in a rush and more people are rude. The worst is that when we all keep saying we can't manage this many people here and more keep on moving here. My advice would be to wait until it's set up a little better to handle more people before moving to North Idaho. We've went through the shock and see that our hometown is changing. Give us t time to get better set up for it. Too many people move here and then wait for it to be accommodating rather than the other way around.

It just baffles me that so many people would pack up and move somewhere that isn't set up for the number of people moving there yet they go anyhow. Then wonder why people are upset. In Cda..We're a tourist town so we're used to having more people in the summer. We work extra hours all summer because in winter hours are going to go way down. Lots of people work seasonally. Our wages were lower but our first of living was as well. Now the prices have made it very difficult to survive much less buy a home here. I have been in my apartment complex for about 4 years now. It was recently sold to out-of-state investors who don't even live here. They saw it as a big money maker because the rent is so low. They paid over 3 times the price as the previous owners. When I moved here my rent was $825. For being an older apartment complex that was actually a bit steep but it's not far from my elderly inlaws so i can be close enough to help them when needed. I had left a really bad relationship and it was perfect for me to save up to buy a house. Not long after i moved in here the rent went up for anyone moving in to $1,000. Steep but manageable. Now a year later only 3 out of 12 apartments have tenants. Slowly given 30 day notices every month. We hear that they are fixing them up a bit and going to raise the rent to $1500 a month. For people barely making it at $1,000 this is sad. One tenant who has to be out by tomorrow has been in this complex for 15 years. She's diabled, on a fixed lower income and requires an oxygen tank to live. She has no vehicle and the housing assistance programs no longer even have a waitlist. They don't care. 30 days and no extention. She had been out on a two year lease by the prior owners. Her prior year to year lease was still in her file though so the new management isn't honoring her 2 year lease. That's awful. I worked customer service for many years. Between covid and so many people moving here i honestly couldn't do it anymore. We were being overworked so that people could stay at home and get paid me than we were. More people called in sick than not. Then i got sick myself and was so run down it was almost 6 weeks before i was better. It ate up my savings to survive the unpaid time off. i quit my job for one that deals with less people i live it but it's also seasonal. It was the best for my sanity though. I will probably get my 30 day notice if either rent increase or to move out. I can sustain for maybe a month with my savings with where I'm at now. I have no idea how i will get money to move elsewhere.. Buying a house for someone like me that's starting over is now impossible. It used to be that if you had a job and paid your bills then you would have a roof over your head. Now I'm not so sure..
@katymorris7853
@katymorris7853 Жыл бұрын
Here's an example. This house listed. It's a tiny little starter house built in 1927 good for someone like me just looking for a place to call their own home. In 2012 the tax assessment was 44k... in 2022 ten years later it's up to 227k. The income here didn't go up, the house probably hadn't had much done to it etc. It's for sale at 295k like that's done sort of bargain. That's a huge jump for around here. Living down in California you make a lot more money. Those of us making less than $20 an hour can no longer rent a place much less buy. So bringing that money here just to outprice us and destroy our quiet town is so harsh. The worst of it is i don't see it ever going back to "normal" here. I suddenly feel like i live in a completely different place and i didn't go anywhere.

Born and raised in boise. Building homes here as well. A few years ago I finally had saved up some money and was getting ready to buy a house. The housing market has taken such a insane climb and people from California buy up and house and don’t question the price. Houses worth 300-400k are going for 800-900k and being bought cash. Not to mention most out of staters that move here hold this sense of entitlement that most natives can agree on. Hate to say it but most the time we can sniff out California implants and tend to stay away. Enjoy the scenery and everything Idaho has to offer. We have all worked hard to keep Idaho the beautiful place it is. If you do come, please Vote Red, we’d hate to see Idaho turn into dirty hobo needle California 2.0

🙌🏽 North Idaho here. So many thoughts. Definitely a different lifestyle, like you mentioned, lake life and snow sports make it a year round playground. The centennial trail is the local version of Boise’s green belt. Patriotism is a thing. Trucks are a thing 😂 burley men are a thing too. And, there is a lot in between that stereotype. As for the influx of Californians, the cost of living increase is tough for many, the transportation is also tough (our roads aren’t all equipped for the growth-yet), and the population increase without an equivalent workforce increase is something to think on. Many moving in work online and need services, but are not providing any local services. Love the people moving in from everywhere. Every person from CA that I’ve met here, has come for exactly what you are describing, values, politics, land, etc. we do have all of those things. As an idahoan native I can tell you that most of us see Californians like Walmart... They come in and run the mom n pop stores out of business and then push ideologies the local population doesn't agree with. I suggest anyone wanting to move to another state to understand that you're moving to their home, their community and you need to acclamate to that new way of living instead of bringing the problems your leaving with you. It matters not where you're from but whom you want to become...be humble and kind.

As a realtor it may be great news for you that heavy developement of over 4,000 housing units, etc, is in the works...which most folks (people in California language) don’t want. That whole area from CDA to PF to Hayden will be Temecula, Ca in two years. The city planners and council are ignoring the community...what’s left of the native Idahoan that is. Before the economy even gets better it will get worse so growing, preserving food and being close to family are what we looked for. I want 2-3 chickens too and a dog lol. I'm sure you guys will find your right home. Thanks for sharing 🙂
@Mikaela777
@Mikaela777 Жыл бұрын
Ok, here is the thing about chickens....each chicken only lays and egg every 2 to 3 days. The first year will be the best laying time for them, then it slows down considerably. Also a chicken stops laying eggs when the temperature hits roughly 93 degrees. They won't resume until the temperature drops below that. They also stop laying from beginning of October until about March. Even though you do have to feed them 12 months out of the year to keep them alive 😅. So depending how many eggs you need a week for cooking and baking a family of four will need about 10 chickens minimum otherwise they just are adorable pets, and they truly are adorable. But you will still have to be buying coop bedding, cleaning out the coop (chicken poop is no joke, they each poop about half the size of an egg every 4 minutes) and buying food, treating them for scaly leg mites etc. So just know that 2 to 3 chickens is totally unrealistic unless they are purely for pets.

But Hollywood is very superficial. There is soooo much diversity within southern California, and the area is as diverse as snowy mountains of Wrightwood to the barren deserts of Lucerne Valley to the farmland east of Temecula wine country. You can't generalize based on what you see in "Hollywood". There's lots of super laid back surfer types here and skaters/potheads.

You wanted to move there becasue of what it is... don't turn it into what you left. Perhaps the people who made it what you wanted, what you decided to move to.... know better than you, how to keep it that way. ---watching further--- "to you it might seem over populated, but to us it doesn't... I don't think there is a right and wrong" No... there is... you like it because of the way the locals made it... so they are right... and you are wrong. And no, I'm not trying to be a jerk.... So I was born and raised in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. And the biggest problem that we have with Californians is there not willing to learn. Coeur d'Alene Idaho along with all the way up to Bonners ferry is a whole different way of living. You have to learn to learn live here. If you do move here I do urge you to get in a church with a lot of locals in it. and then listen to them we may give you advice on how to drive in the snow or how to live in the woods. The biggest problem that we run into here are Californians not being prepared for the surroundings. What can be a beautiful 50 degree spring day can suddenly turn to snow and 19 degrees over night. Or you can go out in the morning and have a beautiful afternoon and suddenly have thunderstorms in the evening causing forest forost fires. The thing to remember is to always keep an eye on your seraindings. And if you're not sure do what the locals tell you to do or do what you see them doing.

I had to laugh when you said Coeur d'Alene didn't have things to do. It's a resort area that people come from all over to stay at. Spokane is only 30 mins away and is 300k people. I lived in the SF Bay Area and I feel like we are missing nothing since living here.

I'll have to agree, I just got back from there and as beautiful as it was, I found there wasn't much to do outside of Sherman Ave and the lake. Maybe I missed a whole entire part of the city. I do love it there though!

Iim saying 85% of idahoians dont care if your from California as long as you leave California politics there and dont try to changes things here. Idaho was a state of physical labor (except Boise) so there are a lot of backwoods looking people here who run around in work close. You would also learn in 90& of the state your first vehicle is a big 4X4 because of the weather. Most ladies also drive a 4wd of somekind.

Oh geez! It’s a beautiful place but most Idahoans don’t take kindly to newcomers. Generally though, northern Idaho is more safe than southern Idaho if you are planning to move. Twin falls is especially beautiful 😊

It's not because we're a-holes. We just don't want anyone else moving here when there is no more room here with the roads etc not being set up for it. Be prepared as well... housing is ridiculously expensive here these days and the wages aren't. So, hope you have a lot saved up unless you work remotely and can keep your high paying job that you've had... those of us that didn't have high paying jobs and million dollar homes are now screwed

Right you not " "holes we actually like the locals it's just those greedy pesky real estate agents that keep pushing the idea that Idaho is the place to be. Their all over the inet.

When people say that “Idaho is full”, they don’t mean that Idaho doesn’t have the space to accommodate more people, they mean they don’t want to accommodate more people, and who can blame them? California is congested. When my grandparents grew up in San Bernardino in the 30s and 40s, it was safe, quiet and beautiful; probably very similar to Idaho in a lot of ways. In 70 years, it’s become a cesspool. Idahoans don’t want Idaho to go the way of California, and it’s completely reasonable.

Love this! My husband and I are born and raised in the Seattle area and to be honest, we hate it. It doesn’t align with our values and how we want to raise our kids but we don’t want to move too far because all of our family is here. So we’re actually going to check out Idaho to see what areas we like. Coeur d’Alene is looking better and better from what you described. Can’t wait to visit!

Haahaa you haven’t been here long enough to see all the bugs through the different seasons. I live in Kootenai county, you will see once it warms up. Good luck with the mosquitoes😂, the stink bugs, the flys, and the ash aphids........ not to mention the snow. You might be better off in Boise.
