In Florida, you fear an appoaching thunderstorm complete with lightening, or the occasional hurricane. In Calfornia, we fear a hot dry windy sunny day. Also, there is a big difference between Northern CA and Southern CA. Southern CA is a desert, thunder and lightening is rare and a treat. I live in an area of Southern Ca where I can play in the snow, then jump in the car and drive for an hour and a half, take my shoes off and wade in the ocean. (Mt Pinos to Ventura). The best part about Southern CA is NO BUGS. I can eat outside without being constantly pestered. There is a short period where you in the summer with the occassional fly. I was in Florida and there is much less homeless, downtown LA is a disaster, tents and garbage pilled up everwhere.

The reason being the ones you've heard about California: crime, homelessness, cost of living, high taxes, etc. But after watching your video, I forgot what made California Great and why I moved out here vs Florida. Love Florida humidity feels wonderful Love the hot showers in the afternoon The rain stops after august and starts again in May What sucks is the car insurance rates - they are based off your credit score And - transferring your car title is $565.00 that sucks . Its all about perspective folks. Socal is definitely a place to visit or if u can afford the lifestyle go ahead. Weather is great majority of the year but don't let that be factor to move to California. Unless you have a great job the weather's not gonna pay for your rent or mortgage. Lived there half my life and weather is really great but eventually uou'll get bored with it. I moved to Texas due to a career opportunity and fulfilled my dream of being a homeowner. Our house is as big as the apartment complex we use to rent our 1 bedroom place. And if I miss California ill just go get a cheap flight and be there in less than 3 hours.

I will add that I am probably older than many on this channel. I lived in California(Bay Area) for almost 40 years and have been in the Central FL area for almost 10 now. Just like everything in life, it all comes down to what you; like/dislike/prefer-- in where you live.... For instance, I played college football and grew up watching CF as a kid in Palo Alto(Stanford). Hardly anyone liked college football that I knew(*caveat-parents are from Alabama and went to school there, so probably has a lot to do with my love of CF football from early age)...Anyway, I always wanted to move to Florida because of these reasons: 1) Football 2) Fishing 3) beaches. 4) golfing....along with the best winters in the country, if you prefer warm winters....The only thing that California comes close to FL in these area's is Golf. If you're not a beach or outdoor person, not sure why you would want to move to FL, but I see plenty of people who are like this in my area. I have noticed you have some rather interesting perspectives on California, when you compare it to FL...First, the rain and sun is pretty close(Tampa Bay ,where I live isn't nearly like Miami, in terms of rain, sun and big storms)....California has 2-3 months of pretty decent rain in the winter every year(I am speaking from a SF bay area/ Sacramento perspective)....Also, you have to remember that California AND Florida could be divided into at least two states, especially California....From Sacramento(which I lived in 10 years) to Redding, it's a LOT different that Southern California, and even the SF Bay Area....it really depends on what part of California you live in. Sacramento is pretty similar to Orlando, for instance. One other thing....the heat. Yes, its hotter in Fl. BUT, there are several places in California where the temps stay 90-108 every day in the summer. Please, save me the humidity factor. Its not that big of a difference....if you do live near or on the coast in California, it is a LOT cooler in the summer months, compared to FL.....To me, its very hard to compare FL to California. To many variables and other things to take into consideration. Anyway, this post is already to long. At the end of the day, its all perspectives and opinions. Everyone have a great one!

I like when people like yourself join the conversation, because you have a lot to offer in the way of experience. I think like you, it really does come down to the life you want to live and I noticed the same here in FL. I know people who live in the same oceanfront building as me, and literally NEVER go to the beach!! Why do they live here? Who knows lol. But FL is the same as far as really being able to divid the north and south parts of the state when it comes to climate, but its hard to get that granular on youtube especially when it comes to titles and drawing attention to the video. But I appreciate all of your great insight, and I hope anyone considering the move reads your comment!

I agree with you. California is vastly different in and amongst itself. I lived in San Diego. LOVED it, Redding HATED it, primarily lived the bulk of my life in Sonoma County. To me Sonoma County (where I live now) gets too much rain in the winter/spring, too cold for me too. I love our summer HOT months, never use A/C even when it's over 100 degrees. We've had snow and ice storms in April, just this year in fact. A lightening storm with rain in August (which sparked fires and evacuations). I can't wait to get to Florida, well South Florida Tampa area where it's warm in the winter. The humidity doesn't bother me. I have spent summer months in Puerto Vallarta where it's quite humid, also in Texas and New Orleans. I find Florida different in varying areas as well. I have friends in Jacksonville (too cold for me in the winter), In Ft. Lauderdale, Weston, Miami areas, Tampa, The Keys and The Panhandle. All of which are vastly different just like the areas of California are vastly different. I think it's hard to compare state to state but appreciate Michael's input.

I've lived in South Florida for over 30 years and have yet to be to the Everglades or a state park lol. But I love it here. I lived in Southern California when I was a kid, visited L.A last year and had a great time, I love it but I can understand the huge challenges of living there. I'm from New York originally and I hate the winter so, Florida is a great choice. The problem might be that apparently 900 people a day approximately are moving here and it's getting crowded as it is. But I live in beautiful Delray Beach, we bought a two-bedroom two-bath condo that is Penthouse style, overlooking the water, 3 miles to the ocean, 5 minutes to trendy and wonderful downtown Delray, purchased last year for $117,000. So the affordability and quality and opportunity is here to live much cheaper. Yes we have hurricanes, they suck and I can't wait till the end of November when hurricane season is over. But in 15 minutes we can be in West Palm Beach or in 25 minutes to Fort Lauderdale, or about an hour to Miami so it is diverse and there's always something to do. Anyway, excellent video really enjoyed it.

Still have a ton of fun things to do then here Frank! Delray Beach is a great little town in SoFL and I always like visiting. @@MichaelBordenaro hey thanks for responding Michael and always enjoy your videos. Yes I used to have a restaurant in downtown Delray 20 years ago and one in Boca before that. I am on a modest income of retirement with two of us in the household and we are able to live fine without being remotely wealthy. We have been very lucky in real estate down here, we doubled and tripled our investments on four properties over 20 years, which is kind of unheard of in most cities. One thing I think is exaggerated is the bug issue down here. As I said I've been here 30 years and we've had a minimum of palmetto bugs and other bugs in our homes and in the year we've been in this condo, we've had exactly one palmetto bug and a couple of ants. There are iguanas right out back that we see from our second floor enclosed porch but even though I know they are supposedly hazardous to the environment, we love looking at them, as well as all the tropical birds. Paradise in a very affordable price. P. S. Yes hurricanes suck, I've been through two pretty bad ones and it is not fun! But we have good hurricane windows and you just hope for the best.

From one going thru it: If you have established yourself in CA with a cheaper, or close to paid off house & no W-2 income, FL may not pencil as well bc of higher property taxes (and even a cheaper new house in FL may have higher tax basis than your cheap when purchased CA house). Property insurance is much higher in FL. We were surprised. It's not cheaper for us but quality of life suits us in FL. Income property in CA has been more lucrative in the past; not sure where it's headed.

Finally a balanced point of view! I can't stand the CA bashing that goes on. I lived in FL for 15 years. Been in CA for 3. You are right in that for some people, moving up in your industry may be harder. For us that was true. We struggled in our careers so bad in Florida. Just couldn't get ahead. We were sinking every year. We moved to Connecticut for my husband's job and we did great. Got better every year. Now in CA, we are living on easy street. So cost of living is NOT always a factor in quality of living and career building. If that was the case, the deep south would be the most prosperous area in the US instead of the poorest. People need to look at their careers, not just cost of housing. Unless of course you are retiring! IMO, the best things about CA is living on the coast. If you can't live near the coast, there is no point. We are minutes from mountains and the beach. In Florida, the beaches were nice, but the mountains were 10 hours away. So as avid hikers AND beach people, CA wins. If you don't care about mountains, valleys and canyons and just want the beach, then Florida wins. The people in CA are super friendly and there are way more conservatives than people give the state credit for. I'm in Ventura county which is very conservative. Being conservative or liberal depends more on your city or town than your state. Plenty of places in Florida are liberal. There are as many registered republicans in CA as there are in Florida! (5 million) Of course CA is bigger so they are more spread out but still. The states are not as solid red or blue as people think. Our town is like a Norman Rockwell town with low crime, great neighborhoods, kids walk to school , palm trees and mountains everywhere I look. I can look out my window and see snow covered mountains in winter and yet never have snow in our town. I could drive less than one hour and play in the snow and be back home with none of it. There is much more of a seasonal change in CA than we got in Florida. From November until March, Ventura county is 60s in the daytime and 40s/50s at night. In FL those temps are a cold front that last a few days and then it goes back up to 80. Some people loved 80s in fall and winter but I hated it. CA has fires. Florida has hurricanes. Both events are scary and suck, but thankfully don't happen that often. In my neighborhood, nobody has evacuated for a fire ever and it was built in the 60s. In Florida, we never evacuated in the 15 years we lived there. Both states have allowed me to garden all year long. So they both win. I couldn't bear the 6 months of no leaves on the trees that we had in the northeast. So both states are great if you are a gardener. There aren't a fraction of the bugs in CA. You are right. My husband and I said that we've had like 2 mosquito bites in the 3 years living here. In Florida, you could have 20 bites in one night. CA is better for outdoorsy people, no two ways about it. I think the best part of Florida is the lack of winter and depending on where you are, the cheaper cost of living. Though some places in FL are as expensive as CA so it depends. I hope this can help anyone who reads this who is thinking of moving either to CA or FL. I don't know anyone in real life who's lived in both places.

Wow thanks so much for writing all this! I hope people considering leaving CA read this too, it is extremely helpful and the "proper" way to really assess the situation. I tried to be as balanced as I could in my video because like you, I think both places have many great things to offer and really comes down to your budget, your job and your tolerance / preference for heat and being outside. Pretty awesome to hear your take on it and nice to know someone else who enjoys California as much as I do 😀

I've lived in Florida at least 9 years and Cali for at least 5. I'm currently in Orlando Florida. I've lived in Florida on a few different occasions so the 9 years wasn't all together. I lived in northern and southern California. Los Angeles and Sacramento. I say all of that to say I've had the same experience as the the lady. It just seems things just never get going for me in Florida. Where as in California everything seemed much easier even though the state was more expensive. The jobs seemed better and everything. Things just seemed to click in California where as in Florida I feel kinda stuck in the mud so to speak. Truth be told I'm probably about to leave Florida for the final time. Also all of this is just my opinion and I've only lived in Orlando so I can't speak for the rest of the state.

@@druzielove1024 interesting perspectives...It all comes down to your opinion. I actually think the beaches here in FL are tolerable all year long, there is usually a breeze- even in the hottest months and its usually more sunny and less stormy in the summer, than a few miles inland. San Francisco is way to cold and foggy for my tastes! I have been there a lot of times over the years. If it gets above 85 in SF, its almost a miracle.

Greg hill I agree with you that it’s definitely my perspective for sure. I have never been able to tolerate the heat and humidity well. When I lived there, it was painful to even walk to my car... And as far as SF goes, something has changed because we have been having VERY warm summers since 2018... and the fog is definitely not what it used to be and this year it has been especially hot 🥵. If you check the weather, you will see how unusually hot it has been for SF - Lots of beach 🏖 days and lots of sunshine ☀️... Like I said in all of my comments - I admire and bow down to people who can live in Florida and who don’t feel it to be unbearably hot 🥵 like I do.

1. Humidity. Your hairstyle will change. You can’t do anything about it. Product won’t help (enough or for long). You’ll sweat. Your clothing WILL change. Nice silks, etc won’t be worn much. You’ll look for lightweight everything . Over looks, just to breathe. It’s hot 🥵 and with humidity it DOES feel hotter still. 2. There are 4 seasons , but they’re more subtle. I moved from Cali to SW Florida. No need for a coat. Just sweaters for winter. Northern Florida (the red part) has cooler weather. 3. Money. You’ll make it in a service industry...like hotels, landscapers, etc. Its tourism, 4. Bugs. State bird is a mosquito and no see um. They bite at Dawn & dusk mostly. You’ll need screens on all windows. 5. Food. You’ll miss the food. Especially if you’re used to great food (like L.A.) ~ you will miss the food. 6. Culture & people. It’s a different culture, different values and different people. 7. Whatever you made in Cali ....well, you better adjust to living with less income. 8. It’s not the “hippest” place. You’ll miss the lack of culture if you’ve enjoyed Cali. 9, I moved from California in 1984. I still miss it. I still think of it as my home.

I love your political standpoint that made me laugh, especially since I’d refer to myself in the same exact way, People here in CA are over the top you just have to walk away from it (if you can). I was driving to a Winery this last weekend and the 101 was blocked off for a political rally and tripled my ETA. It sucked but you’re right about the scenic highways cause at least I was looking at some nice scenery (lakes, mountain ranges). Although, the month of September has been insane with all the smoke. I’m 22 and have no health issues but I couldn’t even walk outside without feeling a burn in my chest from breathing in all the ashes from the wildfires, we didn’t have blue skies until just a few days ago. That smoke was no joke. Looking forward to when I move to Florida and can feel rain again and not have to inhale ashes and pollution. Also being forced to stay indoors when there’s a fire warning.

Regarding the Republican/Democrat thing, it depends in Florida. SE Florida is very Blue while other places like the panhandle and northern Florida are primarily Red. The I4 corridor is a very Purple part of the state. Additionally, MiamiDade has a home rule charter that gives it a level of autonomy that isn't afforded to other counties in the state. For Florida politically, it's complicated! I can highly recommend the Keys by bicycle! The 7 mile bridge by bike is incredible!!!!

Mainly the citys near Miami and Miami itself, for instance I 1800 square foot home in dade county in Hialeah (close to Miami) will run you 400k. Go to homestead, a bit downer south the same home will be 180k with a half acre or acre of land. A 60 minute drive from Miami, rent can be 1200 for a regular lower middle class 1 bed room apartment.

Born and raised in Italy, I moved to LA 5 years ago just because I'm trying to get into animation. My first choice was Miami. Now again I've been thinking of moving to Florida too, maybe in the next couple of years if I can't reach my goals here. I love LA, the weather, the non-humidity :) and California in general BUT it's getting way too expensive for someone who works a regular common job. LA and California are for wealthy people or for whoever works in the movie industry. Every year rent and expenses go up by a lot, they're just pushing the middle and lower class away. What a shame. I visited Miami and the south west coast before even coming to LA and I loved it very much. Miami is BEAUTIFUL but too chaotic and expensive imo. I will visit Tampa asap, hoping to find a quite, nice area for families outside of the city yet not too far. Also I HATE earthquakes!! And here in California we've been having shakes every year and it scares the hell out of me every single time! Hearing that the big one will 100% happen in the next 30 years, just confirms that I won't stay here for too long. I'd rather pack my things and leave the house before a hurricane hits than to go to bed here with the fear of not waking up haha! xD Anyway, thank you for these tips/info! It's more affordable. I'm a musician and I can work. Lived in LA for 24 years and worked full time as a singer. When that town was done with me...(the last four years it was uphill all the way), I moved back home to Tampa Bay. Yeah, it's an adjustment, I miss S. CA weather, but I don't miss that state picking me up, turning me upside down and shaking every dollar I had out of my pockets. The feeling is that, "Our state is the best and you will PAY to live in this splendor." LOL Well, yes and no. I don't miss santa ana winds, the traffic, feeling like I'm judged for my age at every turn and having to compete with every "super human" who moves there from all over the world to make it big. Hell, I milked it and had a great time. Sold my house there and now living cheaply in Florida, which gives me options. Able to get paid to make music, I'm not just seated in the audience applauding others who are doing what I moved there to do. I lived an element of my dream there...had high end touring gigs..saw the world and drank a shit load of good wine. Moving on!

Dead wrong about the food! I was transferred from OC, CA to OC FL and spent 7 years in Orlando. I was transferred back to CA, but visit the friends I made in Fl every year. A trip through the grocery store in FL surprised the crap out of me...meat, fish, vegetables are much more expensive in FL..as is the wine. California provides about 50% of the country's produce...it's fresh here...the stuff I see in Fl is as fresh as the stuff I throw away here. So you are dead wrong about the price of food. The rest of your video is pretty right on, except property taxes. We may have a state income tax, but our property taxes are lower as a percentage of home value. So I believe taxes are pretty comparable in general. I am considering FL for retirement. Having lived in both places, your video was pretty good!

I did the reverse... after 15 years in Florida, I moved to California (16 years ago)... and I don't really miss Florida. Yes, the cost of living is higher here... but my salary more than makes up for that. And weather is one thing that you do not typically have to worry about out here. I like the West Coast vibe. I like that I can be in Malibu or Santa Barbara in an hour... Palm Springs in 2 hours... San Diego in 3 hours... Vegas in 4 hours... and San Francisco in 6 hours. I like the proximity to Big Sur, Yosemite, and Mammoth. My house and all of my cars will be paid off before I retire, and my 401k and Roth will be well-funded. Different strokes. My parents hate California... and I don't care for Florida... so we don't see much of each other. A shame, but c'est la vie. The best thing about FL was the cheaper cost of living. BUT for some reason, out of the 5 states we've lived, Florida was the one state where we could not get on our feet. We spent our first 4 years of marriage sinking further. I realize it's different for other people though. In CA my husband's business has soared and we doing great financially.
