The official countdown has begun for me and to say that time has snuck up on me is an understatement. It is so hard to navigate through my feelings on social media. Some days I am extremely happy and other days I am extremely sad but regardless of those feelings.... I know that I am leaving 😂 and I am trying my best to soak up as much of Germany as I possibly can. I have been a little preoccupied with other things so please forgive me that my social media is taking a little pause right now. Who would have thought that packing boxes, suitcases, and figuring out German bureaucracy would be so time consuming? (sarcasm- we all know it's hard as heck) 😛

Yeah.... I think that also provides me with a lot of peace that I can come back (and I would if sh*t hit the fan). I am however going to try my best to kick some a** in Florida. I don't necessarily think it is a German lesson but due to my circumstances here... I will not make the same mistakes in Florida and I am hoping that helps me tremendously.

@@HayleyAlexis i recommend this book :D: The German Lesson (original title: Deutschstunde) is a novel by the German writer Siegfried Lenz, published in 1968 in Germany. The English translation by Ernst Kaiser and Eithne Wilkins, titled The German Lesson, was first published in London by Macdonald & Co. in 1971 and later by New Directions in 1986. Deutschstunde was translated into several languages and is considered to be one of the defining works of German post-war literature.

7:00 "I think I'm dreading the most a car. I hate driving, you guys." Well, you know, they can be a bit of a challenge to find, but there _are_ cities in the US in which a car is not _necessary._ Go on google, type the name of a given city and the words "walk score." I don't know who, exactly, has done this, but someone has gone through and _rated_ each municipality in the US (with, perhaps, a _few_ exceptions) based on how much time it takes for the people living there to walk from where they live to where they would buy groceries, clothes and furniture. An optimal walk score is 100, but I've found I can make due with half that in a pinch if I need to. You can also look up the quality of any given city's public _transportation_ service. This is information I've had to become aware of, due to my disability that prevents me from operating a motor vehicle.
@HayleyAlexis Жыл бұрын
That doesn't really help me. My school is in Florida and it can not be done outside of Florida. Also- most cities that have high walk scores also have higher cost of living expenses... Rent tends to be higher, groceries tend to be higher, etc.... so at the end of the day- it technically boils down to the same amount of money being spent- the only difference is you have a car or dont have a car. New York, Boston, and San Fran are the top 3... and in those 3 cities the rent is probably 3X what I would be paying in Florida.

I hope your coming education will help you achieve your job goal. I wonder whether the qualification will be recognizd in Germany. If you plan to come back if the opportunity arises, that is. My buddy from school decided to do his medical doctor in Ireland so he could transit to the US without getting to do the exams again. Which turned out to work for him. So what is your dream job? I have heard from you in a previous video that you wanted to do something with kids. Then you dabbled in management. Now you are into some medical profession. If I add that up you will become qualified as a manager of a children's hospital of like facility. Curious, am I right? Inquiring minds want to know.
@HayleyAlexis Жыл бұрын
I went to school many years ago for management with a focus in accounting. That is what my degree is in and I have tried to get transferred over in Germany to be able to work/go to school here (and have failed doing that). Working with kids is something I love but not necessarily my dream... I did it because it was an easy entry for me into a foreign country (Germany). What I am studying now will take awhile to finish because I technically don't know where I want to end up and the medical field is huge BUT my goal is to do a job in the USA that I could transfer easily to Germany or work part-time in the USA at and be able to live/travel to Germany during the other half of the year.

When you get back here to FL and get your academics rolling, you'll settle into a routine that will give your mind the space it needs to sort through things. It isn't even an option for me. If it were an option I would actually try my best to take it but there is literally NOTHING that can bring me to my school. Having bought 4 cars in the US, if buying a used car, I would recommend going to a car rental sales place (example Hertz Car sales). I had a really good experience there. You rent the car and if you like it you buy it and keep it or else return it and just pay the rentaifee. Super easy. I went to one of the car mechanic chains to get the car fully checked. The other really good experience I had was buying my Tesla. Best car I have ever had, everything is online and no sales pressure (I bought it new). Credit unions also occasionally have car sales that are fairly stress free (I bought my second car in the us at one,). The worst was buying my first car which was at a dealership. I would avoid buying a car at one.
@HayleyAlexis Жыл бұрын
To give you a laugh... When I was helping my brother shop for a car we went to a rental car sales location because they had decent pricing and decent cars. We were just testing cars; sitting, turning them on, messing with the seat adjusters etc.... We got into the first car and the engine didn't start.... the sales associate looked at us and was like "omg I am so sorry".... We move to the second car (mind you all of these cars were either 1-2 years old or new)- only 500 miles and went to turn it on and every light with light up on the dash. The sales associate yet again looked at us with shock in his eyes and was like "THIS IS SO BIZARRE AND NOTHING LIKE THIS HAS EVER HAPPENED". He convinced us to try one more car and we did..... My brother sat in the car and tried to put the seat back- it wouldn't go back. My brother whispered to me and asked if I could see if the seat would go back for me... It didn't. I told the sales associate and he said "maybe you aren't doing it properly".... He got in the seat and tried to put the seat back and started slamming his back against the seat and the handle popped off....... This was in 2020 and the car was a 2020. He then got out of the car with the chair knob in his hand and went to open the trunk to throw it inside and the trunk would not open and locked itself and no one could open it..... Needless to say no car was purchased there....😂

Alright, from one who moved from Germany to Florida. Things are going to fall into place. Lean on your family to help you get situated in the US (car, apartment, etc). I've been here for 5 years, and I still dont drive, but I live in Miami, and I can get away with it. I bike pretty much everywhere. My daughter's school and visiting my brother are the only times I use the train. It took 18 months of my husband, daughter, and I of living extremely poor. We had to count every single penny where we didn't need to do this in Germany or Switzerland. It took 18 months for my husbands business to take off. I'm still trying to get into the American way. I'm in customer service business and we need to greet the customer. I don't do the "how are you" line even though my bosses prefer this. They settled with good morning, hello, good afternoon, and good evening. I agree with my bosses that every customer needs to be greeted. Not acknowledging a customer is something I hated in my part of Germany. You just need to accept the wildness of Florida 🤣. It isn't the Florida you grew up in. Just remember, if shit really hits the fan, you can go back to Germany. This is something I keep telling myself here in the US. It would be Switzerland instead of Germany.

Hi. I think only looking on the sunny sugarcoated sides and things can come back as a boomerang sometimes. The only question is, can you then catch it, or will it smash you in the forehead?🤷 I always (ok, mostly) try to be honest to the people around me, about things and the most important of all: to myself. If you have to go, it's okay. You have made a decision for some reasons. If you dislike things about germany, it's okay, we are not the land of milk and honey (well, some think so and act accordingly) and still have a lot to improve. So short: be true and honest to yourself might be harder at first , but makes loosing yourself more difficult, will cost less nerves and brings better results in the long term.... Cause of many big "????" i take the opportunity: i like watching your vids and giving ungefragt mein Senf dazu😉... The will to grow, learn and experiencing new things is always a good thing, best with wide open amazed eyes and an even bigger and more open heart. Keep that for your whole life. Steps Like ev'ry flower wilts, like youth is fading and turns to age, so also one's achieving: Each virtue and each wisdom needs parading in one's own time, and must not last forever. The heart must be, at each new call for leaving, prepared to part and start without the tragic, without the grief - with courage to endeavor a novel bond, a disparate connection: For each beginning bears a special magic that nurtures living and bestows protection. We'll walk from space to space in glad progression and should not cling to one as homestead for us. The cosmic spirit will not bind nor bore us; It lifts and widens us in ev'ry session: For hardly set in one of life's expanses we make it home, and apathy commences. But only he, who travels and takes chances, can break the habits' paralyzing stances. It might be, even, that the last of hours will make us once again a youthful lover: The call of life to us forever flowers... Anon, my heart: Say farewell and recover! By Hermann Hesse

Just have a serious evaluation after being back in US, and don't be afraid to revise your decision, if you feel, you made a mistake. Nothing worse than sticking to a wrong decision.
@HayleyAlexis Жыл бұрын
I think I am a walking example of that... I did that with Germany for a very long time and finally let go and it has been a very refreshing decision....... I have realized with this move that I can do anything and really have nothing bounding me to a location.

I subscribed to your Chanel at a time when you only had about 2000 subscribers. Your content has changed over time but has always been something I've looked forward to. I think it's going to be really, really hard for you to come back to the US. Because if you know the good life in Germany and the EU, you are spoiled :D Now back in the USA with the much worse living standards, I think it will be a challenge. Especially because you learned that the German way is simply better and more efficient ^^ German Way Rocks. :D and "Erster"

You have been around since the beginning... Oh my lord! So many changes have been made since those times (thank you for sticking around). I also started following way back when. As I had moved back to the USA after living in Germany to finish a BA degree. And oh how I missed Germany. So much so that 13 years later I moved back and am working on a MA degree with my 2 kids.. so I agree it will be wonderful to be back with family and especially doing your dream of your degree, you'll miss the lifestyle.. in many ways. You've been germanized and that just doesn't go away. I see you coming back after your degree. 😉 But honestly, I wish you all the best..🤗

@MichaelBurggraf-gm8vl Жыл бұрын
You don't know yet. But you will miss the delays of the Deutsche Bahn. You will miss the letters in your letter box from some obscure office asking you to fill out forms, send them back per snail mail and ask for an appointment to receive the next load of forms due to German buraucracy. You will be standing confused at traffic lights not knowing whether to cross while it's red or not. You will miss people complaining about this and that and everything and about other people complaining. You will miss getting your purchase thrown at you by cashiers. You will miss having the right coins ready for the parking meter, the public toilet, the shopping cart, the Döner stand, ... However there's something really interesting and exciting waiting for you: you reinventing and evolving yourself. I'm wishing all the best, good success and good luck to you.

@@stephannordmann5346 nothing is cheaper than 2000 in Florida since almost all companies left California and Northeast and all went to Orlando, Tampa and Melbourne area, nobody can handle toxic cities like New York or San Francisco because living in the Blue States is no longer possible- lots of drugs and homeless, but have you taken a look at salaries in Florida? Excellent. Your niece should look for something around Boca Raton like Broward County as Palm Beach is a County for millionaires Floridians since birth for at least 4 generations.
@HayleyAlexis Жыл бұрын
Boca is very expensive though... It is where all the money resides LOL It is about the same price in Munich/Munich surrounding area for 3 bedrooms.... When we were looking for an apartment with 3 bedrooms (we technically have 2 now but it is cramped because one room is a dedicated office- plus we live outside of Munich due to costs) the prices were about $2300 - $3000. On top of that money we would have to pay $50 - $100 for a garage space and about $2000 - $4000 for a kitchen... and the $6000 deposit to move in.... Now if you compare it to somewhere smaller or not as popular the cost will be far more competitive. My friends in Berlin pay a fraction of what I pay.
@stephannordmann5346 Жыл бұрын
@@HayleyAlexis Thats right Munich is crasy expensive 🤢 In Wilhelmshaven you pay 500 Euro for 85 qm and you life directly on the north sea 🌊 If you have good weather you can see east coast of the US 😂😂😂 But you are right Boca is expensive but she is working there 4 such called rich and famous but cheap 😔 We was living in North Lauderdale and I loved it there but to race children peaceful and safe we decided to go to germany.
