Leaving the Catholic Church

I think it would be easy for me to be just succumb to the outrage and to refuse to share in the disgrace of what it means to call myself a Catholic. But I also think some perspective can be helpful. I want to try to share a message of hope through this video, but before I do, I think we need to admit some hard truths.
In the past, my instinct on hearing stuff like this has been the defend the faith narrative. Yes, there are some bad priests and even a bad bishop or two, but the rate of abuse in the Catholic Church isn’t any higher than it is elsewhere… and so on.
I think we need to finally come to terms with this and admit that the Catholic Church, in a unique way, has a problem here. There is widespread moral corruption in the clergy, and if recent allegations are true, it goes all the way to the top.
But here’s the thing. The Church, isn’t the clergy, it isn’t the Pope, and it isn’t the parish or diocesan staff. The Church is the people of God… at least that’s what the catechism says that is as long as the current regime doesn’t try to change it.
You and I are the Church and we have a choice. We can run away from this or we can stand and fight for our Church. We can fight the cancer that has grown inside of it and root it out.
I take this as a test. A test of our reasons to call ourselves Catholic and to participate in the life of the Church. Because if our reasons have been, I like the flattery of being counted among a noble and ancient institution. Then that’s not gonna cut it anymore. I don’t go to Church to feel good about my association as a Catholic or to reinforce ideas about what a good person I am.
I go to receive Jesus. I go because I recognize that I’m in need of his grace and mercy. I go to receive his body, blood, soul, and divinity, in the eucharist. For me to look at an unfolding scandal and say, “That’s it. I’m out and I’m never coming back.” It would be like hearing about widespread corruption in medical establishment and saying, well, I’m never going back to a Hospital again. It would be like hearing about widespread corruption in the law enforcement and the judiciary and using that as a reason to refuse to call the police when someone’s breaking into your house.
I just don’t think there’s a lot of wisdom in that. If I were to succumb to that desire, I have to admit there’d be an attitude in it that’s saying, “I’m too good for this, so I’m going to withhold my association and my company from it as some kind of consequence for them.
But what that would actually translate into is, “I’m too good for Jesus. I’m too good for the sacraments.” And that’s the most irrational thought a person who identifies as a Christian can have.
And they don’t care. Those who are responsible for this garbage would be perfectly happy if people like me walked away. I’d only be hurting myself and my family by depriving them of sacramental grace.
I’m hoping and praying that some good comes of these revelations. That we will see some actual, meaningful, reform and it’s going to take the voices of those who are outraged over it to stick around and make that known. Running away won’t change things. It won’t help victims and it won’t prevent future ones. Now is the time to have courage and stand strong.
And lastly, can I just say, I’ve had conversations with people who are actual victims of this stuff and some of them are staying because they believe in Christ and they believe he meant for us to belong to his Church. If they’re staying in spite of what’s happened to them, I think that should sober up the rest of us who think it’s noble to act like victims on their behalf by leaving.
So let’s start rebuilding the Church… and let’s start by ending tolerance for infidelity in our clergy. As soon as our pastors start to break with the consensus of the faith and its teachings, it’s not long before they set themselves up as their own authorities who can do whatever they want… and we’ve been tolerating that for too long. It starts and ends there.
And we cannot ease the pressure for investigations. This needs to be investigated at every level and not internally. Independently. Let’s hope Pennsylvania was just the beginning and God willing, the days of corrupt priests and bishops are numbered.

As a protestant who has extensive background in the history and theology of the Catholic church, let me say that I strongly believe that while God’s words are immortal, and Christ is my Lord and savior, any institution run by men are susceptible to corruption. However, I do feel the Roman Catholic church has done an excellent job for such a long time in many aspects of the faith. When this entire thing happened, as a protestant I did not jump and say “hah! See? Catholics are corrupt!” I did not find it too surprising because evil exists in this world and because of our sinful nature, are susceptible to many bad things. I believe in forgiveness, salvation and second chances, no matter who you are. I think this is more of a hierarchical and institutional structural issue of the Catholic church rather than the faith. Protestantism really did start to avoid certain corruptions that the catholic church is susceptible of, but honestly, just like any human beings, we are all equipped to sin. I genuinely hope and pray that the catholic church really reforms again, as it had done in the past, repent and grow. I really do want people to hear about Jesus and be saved by his blood. I understand many catholics dont have a great view of us protestants, but as a Christian who truly seeks really hard to seek salvation within Christ, I truly from the bottom of my heart pray for blessings to my brothers and sisters in Christ. If God is truly with the Roman Catholic church, I know for sure he using this event as a grand test and catalyst for change within the Catholic community. I will keep everyone who is catholic in my prayers, in Jesus name.

My Catholic Faith goes back more than 2000 years to Jesus Christ.. I was abused and nearly destroyed by a priest of rank and exploited for many years after..I still have scars but My Faith is not based on men and number one Satan sees the Church as his great enemy so of course he infiltrates..I will never leave the Church never and believe me if I dont no one should not on the grounds of these scandals ..I love Christ His Mother the Mass The Eucharist. only the Church gives me these priceless treasures..stay true to the Church and she will bring you to Jesus. There are Cardinals that I admire greatly they give me courage so we can trust future leadership will clean house...all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well to quote Juliana of Norwich! Michael Ibach that’s not true. There are Protestant denominations that believe that Christ is really present in the Eucharist and that also baptize their infants. A lot of mainline protestants do and believe both. When I was an Anglican I did both and believed both. And anglicans aren’t the only ones besides Catholics who believe in these two things

I've been called "complicit with child rape" for remaining Catholic. I so, so feel as Brian does. I am sickened by what these predatory rapists cloaked as priests did. I however truly believe the Catholic Church is the true teachings of Jesus Christ. I am sitting in an overnight Adoration to pray for those so, so hurt and deceived by the evil abusers. The Pope pretends half-heartedly to be concerned while a cardinal openly stated that the Pope has more important things to worry about such as the treatment of immigrants. Completely revolting and is the same attitude held by British institutions about the huge number of grooming gangs. The children were really 'prostitutes' and deserved what they got from their 'Asian groomers'. A completely immoral, hateful and sickening belief that shows how fallen these people are.

See St. Clement's letter to the Corinthians for an example and Church response to an inappropriate form of leadership, in which the laity decided they didn't like their bishop (and they may have had good reasons) so replaced him with their own choice.

It's not about a 'rate of abuse'. The Catholic's moral teaching on sexuality is so strict and the demand of celibacy that distinguishes itself as holier than the married laity, makes the child molestation problem unconscionable.

This implies that the Church's teaching on morality is 'too strict' according to the opinions of men. But what does that prove? What if the teaching is perfectly fine and conformance to it is the problem (cf. reality). Also, the Church forces no men (read: anyone) to be priests (which in the Catholic Church are as part of the job celibate) and thus forces no 'abuse-causing priests' to exists. It stands to reason you should not become a priest if you are prone to lust. Heck, even St. Paul said in that case "it is better to marry than to burn." Saying the Catholic Church 'forces' or 'causes' this kind of thing is equivalent to saying it forces people to be priests. The abusers are the problem, not the perfectly find and reasonable and Scriptural idea it's better for those devoted to God to be celibate. If that's part of the job description, those who go on to abuse people deceived when they gave their CV, essentially. So it's not the Church's fault.

Thank you for that comment. Catholics don't worship Mary. We maintain Early Christian tradition of praying to saints to ask for her intercession. It is also biblical, and this is mostly displayed in the Book of Revelation. Rev 6:9-11(ESV) When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne. 10 They cried out with a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers[c] should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been. So you can see here that the matyrs, because Rev 6:11 says they were told to "rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers should be complete, who were to be killed as they had been". The people who were talking to God were matyrs, and they knew what was happening on Earth because they were asking, how long before you judge us on those that dwell on Earth? Luke 15:10(ESV) 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” The angels are very happy when one sinner repents, and for members of apostolic Churches(Catholics, and Ethiopian, Coptic, and other Orthodox members) we also ask for the intercession of the Holy Archangels St. Michaels; Gabriel, and Raphael. Revelation 8:1-5(ESV) 8 When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2 Then I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. 3 And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne, 4 and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel. 5 Then the angel took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth, and there were peals of thunder, rumblings,[a] flashes of lightning, and an earthquake. We can see here that the angel is offering prayer of the saints to God which "rose before God", and after that there is an immediate effect, where thunder, flashes of lightning, and earthquake are done. We can see a direct correlation between prayers of saints, and an immediate effect, which is demonstrated very nicely here. Now, making false idols, and praying to graven images, and bowing down before them as if worshipping God is something that no Christian should support. He also never forbid the religious use of statues, as is well evidenced here. "And you shall make two cherubim of gold [i.e., two gold statues of angels]; of hammered work shall you make them, on the two ends of the mercy seat. Make one cherub on the one end, and one cherub on the other end; of one piece of the mercy seat shall you make the cherubim on its two ends. The cherubim shall spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be" (Ex. 25:18-20). "make [a statue of] a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and every one who is bitten, when he sees it shall live. So Moses made a bronze serpent, and set it on a pole; and if a serpent bit any man, he would look at the bronze serpent and live" (Num. 21:8-9). To add on, I'll add 1 Kgs. 6:29-32, 8:6-66; 2 Chr. 3:7-14. So religious usage of statues is not forbidden.

I went through the 2002 scandal, was in the Navy stationed in Spain.......I was in the Navy Base Chapel , i was a Religious Program Specialist (Chaplain's Assistant) and I was at the Baptismal ...and there was a lady I knew who was taking some dance classes with me, I asked her "aren't you stunned and shocked about the scandals" "of course Albert, but I am not going to let some perverts destroy MY FAITH" at that instant it gave me such great strength and so I repeat...."I will not allow some old perverts destroy or scandalize my Faith" .......I never looked back and I knew ..had a feeling as a CHURCH we would go through some more nasties and scandals, She has weathered these storms before....we must remain faithful to Christ and His Bride Holy Church. She is Holy because He IS HOLY ITSELF. We remain LOYAL and faithful , no matter what. WE ARE THE CHURCH. The People of the Most High God. I'm starting RCIA, even tho' I'm a cradle Catholic who wasn't taught much of the church when I was growing up. The only Catholic church in my town had a predatory priest that was arrested 2 years ago, that was the time I was going to first go back. So, here it is 2 years later and I'm all ready to start with RCIA and now this. :( Good thing I had those 2 years to seek God's wisdom and to get through the priest scandal that I can now keep my focus on WHY I am coming home. Because it's the ONLY place to fully receive Christ Jesus. It's the ONLY church Jesus left us. It's the ONLY church to receive the Sacraments and sacramentals. I didn't trust our priest but only see him as a way to deliver me Christ and to forgive my sins. I'm not surprised this sickness has climbed to the top piers of the church...and I guess God prepared me for it. I'll stay strong for Jesus, and walk with Him to the end in His church.

As much as I love my Church, I do in my heart feel that the Pope needs to resign. I get the fact that Francis is trying to modernize the Church to stand out to the youth but our Church shouldn’t be that way. The Church isn’t about modernization and relevance it’s about having that relationship with the Lord God Almighty, worshipping him and accepting him. To me, it’s much better to have one Parish full of true believers instead of a whole diocese with many lukewarm. I pray that the church, by the grace of God, will rebuild itself. God bless ✌🏽

I agree. The Church and the faith are not about appealing to the modern culture. Besides, what young people want from the Church is the truth more than anything. They can get fun and relevance anywhere; the mall, the school, their circle of friends (and they can get more fun and relevance there than the Church could ever offer, no matter how hard it tries). I've always avoided "fun" churches for this reason. The Church is the only place people can get the truth, and the truth doesn't change with the time.

I actually turned my back to the church for these same reasons,during this time i still loved Jesus and prayed but i felt something was missing , i started experiencing depression and anxiety, i went everywhere for help but nothing helped. One day my psychologist asked me to explained to her what does it mean to be a catholic, i didnt know how to answer her , i turned my back on the church that i forgot to be a catholic, So i contacted a priest who left an impression on me 10 years ago when my sister got married. You can't, with a broad brush, make a claim of those being unholy because they chose to leave the church. The Catholic Church IS NOT the ONLY TRUE CHURCH. And if you really believe that, then you're missing the spirit of the writ in scripture. The Church is not an organization, it is an organism , not made of hands or ideologies, but of the Holy Spirit. Many of us do not want to remain in a denomination who's clergy hides and abets sexual abuse to children. When they clean the house, then we'll return! I was talking with a parish priest yesterday. He told me that he thinks it might take another ten years to clean all the mess out of the Catholic Church. But he also said that he is actually "excited" to see what is going to happen to the Church, that he is look forward to a stronger, leaner, believing Church. He thinks that this crisis will cause the laity to study the Faith and to stand up in defense of the Church. He knows that this is hard to bear now, but after we pass through these trials, we will be better. This is a test for all of us. For myself, I am not letting these terrible clergymen cause me to abandon the source of Truth.

While it is true that there have always been men in the Church who have used their positions for their own selfish reasons, it is not fair to lump them all in together. The majority of men who become clergy give their entire lives for the glory of God and to help their fellow man. As for the Pope, the Keys of the Kingdom were given to Peter and his successors by Christ Himself, and even though some of the Popes have been disgraceful, the majority have been, at worst, innocuous, and some have even been great. The reason why these problems crop up is not because of a Pope. They can be attributed to the sinful nature of human beings. We find the same sins in education, in the medical field, in psychology, and even in government. But we don't destroy our schools, our hospitals and clinics, or our governmental institutions. The institutions are not in and of themselves bad, but some of the people in them are. If the world wants to get rid of sin and crime, it must start with each one of us. We have to stop breaking the Commandments and praying for others to do the same. The Church is an organism, not an organization. Each act a member of the Body commits - either good or bad - helps or harms the rest of the Body. We have to keep that in mind. We laypeople also have to hold our clergy accountable. (Heck, we are not even good at holding our lawmakers accountable for the heinous things they do. We keep voting them back into office.) If some priests and bishops must be laicized or even jailed, so be it. If Francis ends up resigning, so be it. But I still believe in God and His Church, even if a small number (and it IS a small number) of men in the Church no longer deserve our trust.

Nancy B, I'm with you Nancy. I understand very little Latin, except for a few of the Latin words commonly used in the Church, and the Hail Mary in Latin. But, I think with repetition, we would begin to understand what the words used in the Liturgy meant. Plus we could read along the missal in English, and hear the homily in English as well. I think that the reverence and beauty is very conducive to holiness. I think that the Novus Ordo, the way it is celebrated in many (probably most) parishes is kind of uninspiring, and often the music choices are very corny and distracting. But, I've also experienced the Novus Ordo Mass celebrated in a very beautiful, reverent, & traditional way, which I think is how it was intended to be. I don't think we need to do away with the Novus Ordo, but it should be reigned in and cleaned up! I would also like to see the church buildings made beautiful again. Many formerly beautiful churches were stripped of their beauty, and made to look dull & modern. It's so nice to see some parishes restoring their churches to their prior beauty. I believe that true beauty points to God and draws people to Him, so I think it is in a way a type of evangelization, and kind of important. It also gives God honor - if we believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist and tabernacle, then we should surround Him with beauty.

Appreciate your honesty. May I answer a statement? Corrupt priests are not the same as corrupt doctors or police. A doctor may still practice, even skillfully though he be corrupt. A priest is disqualified before God by his persistent perversions. RCC says priests are marked indelibly upon ordination that remains though Jesus said we could judge false from true teachers by their lives. I hope that the RCC will no longer be above questioning but this always seems to just disappear from public discourse as the church just moves on to the next cause it deems more important. For the past two years I have been wrestling with my religion- not my faith. I would attend Mass, Reconciliation, and receive the Eucharist-all with a bitter taste in my mouth. I began following you during my search. It does not shock me that this second scandal has rocked the church. The Catholic Church- the church of my conversion, my desire, my faith- has been infiltrated by Satan, himself. We preach that it is the one true church, yet, our Universal Body- our brothers and sisters- have been marred, destroyed, and stained at the hands of the leadership. I prayed and prayed over the media, the stories, the sadness. I felt a stirring in my heart, and clearly heard the words; “God will not let a church that harms children prosper”. We have left the congregation. We are directing our tithe to the care of orphans and widows. Are we Catholic- yes. In Baptism. Are we now “inactive-or nonpracticing”? Yes. We have dedicated our lives and families to study the Bible. Will we ever come back? We do not know. Not every person will receive the same message. I pray the faithful that are called to retention will change and purify the Body. Bottom line: get on your knees. Jesus, our Savior, will speak to you- and WILL guide you towards your path. A lot of people are going to comment after you telling you how what you're doing is evil and wrong and you can only go to the Catholic Church to be near Jesus. The sad reality is, the only way there will ever be any real change is if we withhold obediently and quietly sitting in the pews emptying our wallets into the basket. The Knights of Columbus introduced the “Safe environment “ program. In this program anyone who interacts with children must do the following: Go through an FBI background check Be fingerprinted Take the “safe environment “ course Pass the course with a final exam. This is similar to what is done in the public school system where I used to work until retirement. So being pro active in the face of scandal is the proper way forward. Leaving the church because of terrible sinners and scandal, would be like leaving the gym because of fat out of shape people. It makes no sense. It's good to be angry about these scandals and these men who abused the priesthood. But they were not upholding the teachings of the church. They were not living the faith. They are not the face of Catholicism. They do not represent who Christ is. They are dissenters, and honestly it's safe to say that these men may never have had good intentions in the first place. I truly believe that most of these priests who committed these atrocities, actually entered the priesthood to infiltrate and corrupt the church from the inside. Look up Bella Dodd. Don't be discouraged, Christ suffered, was tortured and then crucified by his own people! Why wouldn't the church also endure the same things that Christ endured. Be not afraid! Live the faith, uphold and be faithful to the teachings of the church! God will carry us through this, we must be faithful! Trust in God, He will not abandon us. Brian, thank you for your candor and your courage. I have been praying for a voice like yours to speak to your generation about the church in my ballpark. I am an Anglican bishop in the US - not the Canadian national Anglicans, but the church that couldn't stand the error and sexual scandal that has beset the Episcopal Church. We left 40 years ago. And I'm not so young as I was. I too was terribly hurt seeing yet another massive scandal in the Roman Church in America. It goes on. Why? Tolerance for the intolerable. Our own hands haven't been fully clean - as a bishop I have had to clean up after priests who misused their authority and position in church to pursue their own agenda, but I did what had to be done. Those men are gone. Protecting the church from the light of the Gospel Truth is a sad aim for a lost church, and it's all over the place. Your church is not alone in it. It's just so much bigger than we all are that it gets attention and it has larger numbers of souls affected. And the media loves most of this, and trumpets most of it, except that the great majority of victims were male. And what that might mean. I love your videos. Keep at it. I do think, however, that we need a leader, someone who can clarify confusion about the truth in order to preserve unity. The Pope is that person for the Catholic Church and I accept that. For various reasons it's why the Catholic Church has spread across the world. Eastern Orthodoxy, as much as I respect it, tends to self segregate into ethnic factions.

Brother papacy is office established by Jesus and we did have some bad popes and they are not always right but when talks about faith and morals officially, not in every thought or decision they make so we give obedience to office established by Jesus not person so ours orthodox brother were wrong because first person rejected papacy, took authority upon himself and is self proclaimed pope because he thinks he knows better and he is one we should follow and can be called what ever patriarch or elder Luther or false prophet but is wrong and against Jesus Bible and truth because bible tells as about Apostles succession history of Church tells us same so brother stay strong don’t give in in temptation And I’m not saying you would but used this opportunity to say this to everyone God bless

The rule of thumb with parishes and priests for me is that if they start using phrases you've heard on college campuses or in sensitivity training they're probably not reading the Bible, saints, or Catechism.

Thanks for your channel. Buckle up and read Cardinal Sarah's books "God or nothing" and "the power of silence against the dictatorship of noise". Also, as St. Alponsus (doctor of the Church) says "if you pray, you will be saved, if you refuse to pray, you will be damned". Especially mental prayer ( and all that accompanies fidelity to Jesus Christ, of course).

Yes, many of us feel lost because of the leadership of the Pope, Cardinals, Bishops. When this happens, Lay people have always stood up for the church. The church (which means assembly) is THE PEOPLE!!! How would you feel if you were a Priest and had to put up with other priests who are bad. There are a lot of priests and only about 3% are abusers. We need to clean house, examine who we are letting into the seminaries, and let Priests get married if they desire to do so. Similar to the Orthodox Church. The Patriarch of Constantinople is not an Orthodox Pope. Orthodox bishops have equal status. Constantinople has a certain precedence on account of its history. Moscow is the most important on account of its side. There is, incidentally, a Pope of Alexandria.

I’m a former catholic - raised a cradle catholic I’ve never been more free and happy in my life - My kids wanted to go to a Protestant church - I told them that’s fine as long as they continue to go to mass - but they began to ask questions about the Roman Catholic faith that I couldn’t answer - when I researched the history of the Catholic Church and it’s claims I realized how blind I had been - only living in my catholic bubble it all made sense until I saw the beauty and freedom of Christianity and the gospel without the man made traditions and unfounded claims of Rome - I’ve never felt the presence of god in the Eucharist yet we get it drilled into our heads that it is the crown jewel of our faith - yet I saw no transformation in our lives or greater union with Christ - when our family began to actually experience the presence of god was when we participated in a Protestant church prayer group - I realized how arrogant myself and those who taught me were - when they said things like “but we are the true church” and “we have Mary and the Eucharist and the papacy “ and yet there is so much corruption , sin , and pride - I saw in the humility of my Protestant friends the true spirit of Peter - To anyone wanting to leave - ask questions - don’t ignore your doubts with more devotion and piety - go where the truth and evidence leads you - My wife and children have never been more alive and spiritually on fire - Leaving the Roman Catholic Church was the best thing I ever did for my family and my relationship with god

I read a quote about long lines for communion but not confession. At St. Brendan's Church of the Bronx, NY asked Fr. Perez questions about God during confession. I was told that I was disrupting the process. At. St. Barnabas Church of the Bronx I asked the pastor a question about God. he told me that that was inappropriate for confession and that he would answer me later.

I've never met anyone who regarded leaving the church over the sex abuse scandal as considering themself a victim on behalf of those who were abused. Basically they're disgusted to the point that they decided to wash their hands of the church entirely. As for doing something about it since the Catholic laity don't even have the power to remove their pastor from an individual parish, let alone bishops. There is absolutely no recourse other than to either withhold all support and financial assistance or to vote with your feet and go elsewhere. We are talking about an institution. That has existed as a formal organization for roughly 1,700 years that has never operated on the principle of the consent of the governed. It has operated on the precept of obedience by the governed is at best assumed, and during most of its history demanded.

So how do you feel about the churches problems and your support (assuming you support the church) for this organization actions? How do you feel about the church using your support to pay lawyers and lobbyist to fight laws that would require transparency? How do feel about your support going to pay lawyers to offer victims money but only if the keep quite and never get justice? Why is the church still fighting victims? Why is the church still not allowing change? Why has this been going on for so long without any meaningful change? This is not about faith or the sacraments but about crimes. Here is a fact for you to consider. "By the Council (or Synod) of Elvira in 309, the problem of child abuse had become large enough for special punishments to be put in place. " This is not new.

Brian...this scandal does "test......" not only one's perspective & conscience but character & Faith. MY greatest thought was, if I left the Holy Catholic Church, I would not only abandon my Lord & Savior but, also, would lack the Trust of God's promise that NOTHING will prevail His Holy Church. God is in control, man is weak & sinful (and always will be). We should not be led astray through any trial or tribulation. The Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity IS PRESENT with us & if one lacks this comprehension, then their salvation is dependent through their FAITH.....(the Faith the size of a mustard seed) that The Real Presence of Jesus IS in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. The scandal breaks my heart, even as moves me into a class of people, Catholic priests, who are presumed guilty of horrible things. It is difficult, but the reality is that many of my brother priests have done horrible things. You give me hope. You are the father of a family. You are a convert to the faith. The main point of Catholicism is that the Church is the one Jesus himself created. Thus, going out would be a contradiction, in my opinion. On the other hand, if there are things we do not like, it's better to remain and fight for improvement within the institutions.

Great video and message, Brian, it takes a lot of courage and faith to make public statements like this. As a life long Catholic, this has been a topic I've been dealing with for a long time and eventually came to the same conclusion you did- while angry and sad at the fact that these criminals are out there hurting the people they should be helping the most, it only hurts us to walk away from the path we hold to be true and does not fix the problem. I am hopeful that this will be a problem we can expel from the church with no future incidents, or that future incidents can be minimized with a zero tolerance approach to those responsible.

Here are a couple of lines to meditate upon... The Church has enemies. Enemies tend to attack and make war. All is fair in love and war, so don’t be surprised when our enemies fight dirty. The Church has a lot of nice people in it. Nice people have a hard time understanding that others won’t play fair. Just because you leave your enemies alone doesn’t mean they will return the favour. If I may, and this is advice for the many, try reading some proverbs or look up an old book of maxims. Very good for stirring a sense of circumspection and wisdom. And, for the love of God, it’s all hands on deck! We are under attack!

Yes, why would faithful Catholics leave the Church? Drive out the mccarricks and wuerls of the Church and there are many who are seeking the destruction of the One True Church. My friend... my family left the Catholic church back in the 1950's due to scandals (only whispered about, not much TV back then)... I think you have the right solution... the church is the People / Church goers, not the clergy... put your faith in the WORD, not the people... sadly, Martin Luther exposed corruption in the Catholic church 500 years ago, and even my Irish grandfather was glad as grandfather would tell my mother, that Martin Luther's pursuit of truth helped change the Catholic church for the better. I used to be Catholic. It was hard and depressing when I decided to leave it. That happened in around 2014. One person said that I'm a devil worshiper. Now that dude is getting divorced. Its ironic these mean spirited people think they held something over me. I'm over it now. I dont feel sad anymore. I can pray directly to God myself. I dont need the sacraments. It's all made up anyways.
