Sara, Luca and Luce, each of your olives have such character ! I think of them as simply Magestic. They seem to hold wisdom, knowledge and grace. They show their wrinkles proudly and keep their offspring under their canopies. Their form and their setting really take my breath away. Luce will grow up with her land under her fingernails and you are lovingly creating her memories, your love, what home means and in the future frolicking with some siblings through the olive and fruit grove. Another beautiful video. That oregano grows abundantly in the Mediterranean region. In Lebanon the flowers (some use leaves with it) are dried and used to make "zaatar" which is a mix of the dried oregano flowers, sumac and toasted sesame seeds. It is a staple in Lebanese cuisine. You can mix it with olive oil and dip bread in it, or make a sandwich with it and top with tomatoes and cucumber..and we make a sort of "pizza", a breakfast baked good, with zaatar as the topping. It is delicious. What a treasure trove this property is!

I recognized in your last video that the white flower plant is Queen Anne's Lace. It has superb medicinal qualities. Many years ago my husband and I had a farm. He was suffering badly from kidney stones. I pulled up several plants and hung them to dry root down. Then I ground the roots into powder and with some olive oil, made a paste. I gave it to my husband 3 times a day and in just a few days he passed all the kidney stones and avoided the surgery that was scheduled for a week later. The bioactive compounds of this plant relaxes muscles, is a diuretic and is also an antisceptic. The flowers of this plant in northern Pennsylvania where we had our farm, are similar to those in Italy but are more dome like. Even so, it's the same plant with the same medicinal properties. During the 11 years I have lived in Italy, I have been extremely impressed by the foraging knowledge and skills many Italians possess. I remember about 6 years ago, I had been invited to pranzo at a friend's parent's house. We first went on a walk into the surrounding fields nearby where the nonna in her 90s, sat on a rock. Then family members (3 generations) would go to her with a sample of a plant and she would tell them if it was edible, what it was called, the type of areas where it grows, and how to cook and eat it. I will never forget that day. It was late spring and part of our lunch was a torta l'erbe made with many of the fresh greens we picked on that foraging adventure. Italy also has Valerian (with dark pink flowers) growing everywhere in the late spring and summer, mostly in rocky walls and stone crags. Valerian has a root that has bioactive compounds that is famous for its neurological calming properties.

I just had a second procedure done last week to blast apart some large kidney stones. This is very interesting information on what Queen Anne’s Lace can do. Thank you! I had never had issues with stones until the last five years and now seem to have several that keep forming. I don’t know if we have that growing in our area but will have to check it out now.

In Liguria, from which half of my family comes, foraging is a way of life; not only dandelion but all sorts of herbs and plants including nettles. They are put into soups but also are used to fill our ravioli, pansotti, etc. Then there are the mushrooms which either the nonne or the local pharmacist look over and tell us which are poisonous and to be discarded. It's a whole other way of living.
