The problem with the Lebanese is they don't appreciate their country and people when they live in Lebanon, but when they move abroad only then do they appreciate the land, history & culture that God has given them. As long as the actual Lebanese living in Lebanon don't appreciate what they have and don't work to improving their situation, then no amount of money or diaspora support will fix Lebanon.

@@rubytuesday4564 Wow. So much in what you said is factually wrong and yet you decided to pitch in and thought its appropriate to make such an incorrect AND bigoted comment! Lebanon is about 40% Christian and the rest is a collection of Sunni/Shia Muslims and Druze. Syria is about 65% Sunni Muslims while the rest is a collection of Alawites, Ismali, Shia as well as Durze, various Christians sects and Historically even Jews and Yazidi's. Syria is arguably more diverse than Lebanon as it includes more sects even if it has a more prominent majority sect its still not an overwhelming majority as to claim it is a 'Moslem' country (it's spelled Muslim). The Christians in Syria make up about 10-15% of the population so they are not insignificant and their presence can be felt in every Syrian city, the Durze make up about 5% and are not counted as Muslims usually due to huge differences, same can be said to some extent about Alawites and Ismaili's. So no Syria is not a "moslem" country by any stretch. Neither is Lebanon a Christian country.. Finally, Muslim or Christian has literally nothing to do with the original point of the comment and I don't understand in what world you managed to make a correlation between people's solidarity and them being Muslim or Christian!

A few African countries are not as bad, I guess, like Cote d'Ivoire. Most, however, are plagued by corruptions, military juntas, violence, poverty, and ignorance. That's why people would pay $8,500 for a seat on crowded rickety boats to escape to Western countries even if they're likely to drown at sea.

I was gonna say the only way a country can be as poor as mentioned earlier is when your money doesnt get you very far, everyone starts to leave(business and laborers included) .80% poverty with means your money is also worthless .That is why if it were left up to Government to feed people we would all starve to death

The IMF is trying to strong-arm Lebanon into exploitative trade agreements, just like they did with the Ivory Coast. They sell the image of a corrupt government, so the international community will look the other way when the IMF forces them into a trade agreement they don't want. These trade agreements called "Structural Adjustment Programs" or SAP. They only harm the people and the nation. For example, the IMF strong-armed the Ivory Coast into producing cocoa, which supplies the European chocolate industry. The Ivory Coast was in a state of Crisis when the IMF came in to "help" with SAP "loans". The "loans" couldn't be used for health, agriculture, education, infrastructure or other essential needs. The loans could only be used to produce cocoa. And the "loans" could only be repaid by Ivory Coast's 'profits' from cocoa production. However, there will never be profits, because the IMF controls the cocoa market. Ivory Coast will never be able to repay the IMF. They are enslaved now and kidnappings and child labour is used for cocoa productions in the Ivory Coast. IMF uses the same tactics over and over. They put a country into crisis when they want them to supply something. Then they do a smear campaign against the leaders (often democratically elected leaders). Then they force them into the agreement. They do this all around the world. Lebanon is just one of their current targets.

It was an excellent current review of the crumbling Lebanese state. Together with a snapshot of the estimated 14 million Lebanese living elsewhere. /One question I would like to have asked them both. How prevalent do they think Lebanese players in foreign drug and crime syndicates are? In my country, this influence persists into their third generations. Cash can be generated faster, and in far greater sums, in the black economy.
