Outside of ESPN i find SAS an informed person with good comments but in context of ESPN he is replaceable and you distort the numbers in that it has declined during his tenure and the primary reason for his numbers is the fact that ESPN gutted itself of talent in order to excessive sums to him and a few others. Smith's influence on ESPN, while very lucrative financially, has had a negative influence on ESPNs reputation. In my opinion, ESPN has become too much about hot takes, reckless speculation, politics and not so much about sports even though ESPN still touts itself as the Worldwide Leader in Sports. As far as I'm concerned, ESPN is nothing more than a marketing company for the NFL and big-time college football. ESPN has driven away one great talent after another and another and another from its network for the past 25 years or so, most recently RGIII. I haven't watched SportsCenter since before the turn of the century. The radio division of the network is especially weak save for a few personalities I like including Freddie Coleman, Ian Fitzsimmons, George Sedano and John Ireland. I think ESPN should just focus on football and leave the baseball, basketball and hockey coverage to other networks. I also think Disney should divest themselves of ESPN. Not that any of that will happen. But, that's the way I feel. It's why I rarely tune into anything ESPN these days. I love sports. But, I don't appreciate cross-marketing and I'm sick of hot takes. And, by the way. Let's just say Screamin' Stephen A wants 25 million. Why stop there? If he's really the straw that stirs ESPNs drink so to speak, why not ask for a stake in the company? If money is how he measures his worth to ESPN, he ought to ask for the moon on this one.

SAS does need ESPN. he is 100% a ESPN product. he aspires to be PAT MCAFEE who built his worth through social media and leveraged that into a licensing deal with ESPN.. Issue is, PM has been on social media for 8 years building his audience and turned down $120Mil a year deal to accept a $85 mil year. I say that to say, outside of ESPN, viewers don't care about SAS. The biggest question for this debate is, could SAS get this kinda deal he is asking for, BEFORE the Mcafee deal? Would he even think to ask for it? I dont know about anyone else, but my dad and I, plus many dudes we know, stopped watching espn specifically because of Stephen. He was cringe before that word became popular. Half of the time, his sentences are jumbled into a mess and you can barely understand what he is trying to say. If my goal is to be entertained, then I need an actual entertainer, and Stephen is just simply not that.

I like talented people betting on themselves...BUT, you must UNDERSTAND what you are up against in reality, in reality, in reality! SAS is NOT liked by most audiences, he has FAILED in every " out of the box" endeavor he has tried. Example: SAS has had a Studio Talk Show - FAILED, he has had other shows that featured him as a host - FAILED, he is on the ESPN NBA Pre Game show, massive fail, mostly due to him. Understand, 99.999% of the population does not know SAS, and most of the remaining do not like him. That little TIME niche where he is has propelled him to make big bucks even though it is a very small viewership, ESPN can parlay that very small viewership into a money maker with commercials...WHO WATCHES SAS = Men who work the grave yard shift who need the TV on to get to sleep, boys playing hooky from school or drop outs or out of work dudes...WHEN SAS moves Out of that little niche time frame NOBODY WATCHES HIM. There is no way that 300K - 400K viewers Nationwide will sustain a syndicated show and over half of those viewers will not follow him out of that niche time frame. He best take that $18M and RUN, Keep his social media stuff if he can; social media is fickle, people will subscribe and never WATCH 30 seconds or they will subscribe today to see what he is about and when they find out he is really boring... Unsubscribe in 5 days (I did). SAS, KEEP YOUR DAY JOB, Don't lose your niche audience, make the bucks, get some perks, You have had a GREAT RUN. Who would have thought that a dude that was FIRED from a place and later Put On and MADE BY SKIP BAYLESS would actually be VALUED at millions of dollars with a weak viewership of less than 300k real people😮😮😮! With your RESUME you have already Beat Da Man and the odds!

If I were running ESPN, I would tell him no. I wouldn't have offered him 18 million either. He doesn't deserve it. You guys are high. He doesn't have the greatest daytime sports show and he sure as hell isn't the greatest sportscaster, unless you think a guy screaming all day equates to that. It doesn't. When he's not doing that, he's on Hannity stumping for Trump. You guys are out of your mind. I know he's a friend of the show, but he's not as well liked as you think he is.
