I pray Nora actually liked the experience! First, Mark it is very important to teach your youngest how to hot wire a car. Second, It is customary to set off a smoke alarm in the kitchen, like our family, but if you do it in shop that is cool also! Peace.

Dealt with more than a few back when Renault still sold in the U.S., they seemed to be reasonably well made, but the dealer/parts support in the U.S. was laughable. I forget if it was the LeCar/5 or the Fuego that had a coolant fill port and manifold block that clipped to the end of the engine, but they would get damaged, and the wait time for a replacement was often measured in weeks (if not a month and some) where I was wrenching. Most of the people that owned them seemed to really like them though, which says a lot.

Those are strange vehicles from the standpoint that they have an "FMF" layout- front mid-engine, front-wheel drive. In other words the engine is mounted in the front with the transmission right in front of it.

Saab did the same thing, though most of the transmission was under the engine.
@franktechmaniac74882 күн бұрын
It logical to put the transmission in front of the engine in a FWD, because of the longer wheelbase and better weight distribution. Only Audi still puts the engine in front of the front axle and ends up with nose heavy understeering rides.

They were slow-speed vehicles (maybe 45-50 mph tops) so maybe better than driving folks around the military base in a golf cart. I drove a Mazda similar to this a few time when in Argentina the mid-1990s but it had a larger 1.5L engine, I thought it was a great rig. When Mark first showed this I thought it would make a great parts-run/local delivery vehicle, its uniqueness makes it a eye-catcher and a great advertisement (with the shop logo on it).
@nicknelson94502 күн бұрын
@@crosslink1493 "They were slow-speed vehicles (maybe 45-50 mph tops)" I'm sure you mean well, and maybe you came across one which was struggling to pick up speed, but I'm afraid that claim is incorrect. Even the Renault 4 or the Diane the 2cv, all dogs by comparison to this, could get up to around 70 mph. The renault 5, in the iteration we see here, could get up to over 90 mph. Cars with a top speed of around 50 mph were more like early to mid 20th centuy tech. Even a Fiat 500 could just about manage 60 mph!
