I'm a 54 year old woman who isn't even technical savvy and not very industrious and this video was very descriptive so much that I adjusted both the left and right side breaks on my XP 2.0 Lectric bike about 10 minutes ago. I live in Orlando Florida and ride this bike twice a week, to one of my jobs which is 19 mi away so 38 mi total to and from and the right, rear brakes have been not working for at least a month now and the left brakes were barely working before I did this very easy adjustment which was explained slow and thorough just like I needed, LOL! Thank you and you probably saved me from getting in an accident because I have to go to work at this 19 Mile away job tomorrow morning and now I have rear brakes again so yay for that and hats off to you!

I saw the Tinkering Turtle adjusting the Tektro Aries brakes on a Himiway and it seems like a logical step-by-step way to do it. First tighten both barrel locks all the way, then tighten the cable at the caliper all the way, then back off a bit. It was very quick and easy to do on my Lectric 2.0.

There are some that are really good. The $50 ones on Amazon are garbage. The only ones on Amazon that look decent are the Juin brand, but the are expensive. Origin8 and Crust Bikes Palm oil brakes are also very good and expensive. Not sure if they are really worth the price unless you are really having braking issues.

Appreciate the video. Do you have any issues getting to the inner pad adjuster with the p-handle wrench? With the motor back there, I really couldn't access it with an allen key. Basically lose the straight shot to the adjuster due to the motor. I was thinking it might be easiest just to get a low profile allen key for that problem

Thanks for this VERY informative video. I am in NO ways mechanically inclined or knowledgeable. I had an issue with my brakes and was worried about when or how I was going to fix them, since bike shops won't work on e-bikes for liability reasons, and I had watched other videos and didn't really see anything that held my attention or sounded doable. Come to find out, that silver outside nut on the opposite side of the brake caliper needed tightened. My brakes went from no reaction (whether the back was tight or loose) to a nice strong grip . My only issue is, I can't quite reach the one in the back because the motor is in the way and I don't have a 5mm allen wrench that can get in there to turn that nut. Any suggestions?

Hi Chris. I was able to adjust the caliber to stop the rubbing sound it makes when its rubbing on the rotor for the front wheel. However, I am at a loss as to how to adjust the barrel adjuster for the front breaks on the hand grip. I know in the video, you showed which direction to twist the barrel adjust for the rear breaks but not for the front. As for the trying to adjust the caliber to stop rubbing against the rear rotor, the motor is blocking one side and I can't get access to adjusting the caliber. Does it mean, I would need to remove the rear wheel first in order to be able to adjust the caliber?
@PedalWithPower
@PedalWithPower 2 жыл бұрын
If the brake pull from the lever feels fine, then you don't need to use the barrel adjuster. The barrel adjuster is just for tensioning the cable, to make it tighter. To do that, just unscrew the barrel a little, counterclockwise, then tighten the lock nut back down on the brake lever to keep the barrel in the position you just moved it to. For the rear brake, the only way to reach the 5mm Allen on the inside, to adjust the stationary pad, is with the P-handle wrench that I'm using. If you don't have one, you have to either remove the caliper or the wheel, to get to it. But you won't know if you adjusted it correctly until you put it back together. Very time consuming, I'd just buy the Park Tool 5mm P-handle wrench.
