Lectric XP Riding Tips | 5 Tips for New Ebike Owners

Another tip: leg extension for efficient pedalling. This is important because if you have your seat too low and try to pedal a lot, you will damage your knees. Of course, this is irrelevant if you only ever use the throttle, but if you live in very hilly areas and use your bike for commutes, you will need to get better range out of the battery than what throttle-only riding can provide. Plus, bicycles are meant to be pedalled. It just feels good. Here's how you set your seatpost hight correctly. Position your bike next to a wall so you can sit on the saddle while stationary. Next, place the HEEL of your foot on the pedal. Make sure the pedal is at its lowest point in its rotation. Now adjust the seat height so that your leg is almost straight, with only a slight bend at the knee. Doing this with your HEEL on the pedal is important. This is because when you are pedalling normally, it's actually the MIDDLE to FRONT portion of your foot that's on the pedal. And in this position, there will be a slight bend at your knees when your pedal stroke is at its lowest point. And that's what you want. Don't worry about having a high seatpost being supposedly dangerous when coming to a stop. As you are about to stop, you should stand up on the pedals and slide your body forward so that you are positioned between the seat and the handlebars. In one smooth motion, you swing your foot out and step down onto the ground. A motorcyclist at a stop shouldn't look like a bicyclist at a stop: the former is sitting, while the latter is standing. The only people who need the seat low (to be able to touch the ground with their feet while sitting on the saddle) are folks who, for whatever reason, have mobility issues.

I got a lectric step-thru 2.0 for Christmas, and have been reading the manual, watching the tutorials, but yours addressed ALL my questions. I was very badly injured several years ago (hit by a car while jogging), and I've tried to use a regular bike, but the pain in my hip, lumbar spine, etc. (I feel like a broken model kit), made it impossible. The step-thru feels liberating rather than daunting now that I've seen this tutorial. I think I'll wait a bit before I update the speed profile, though. Thank you doesn't go far enough.

One suggestion I have for new E bike riders is to take it to a place like a large school parking lot (on weekends) and get comfortable just riding back and forth making gentle turns and using PA 1 or 2 only with and without throttle. E bikes like 3.0 are heavier that what regular bike riders are used to and the smaller tires and different seating position take some getting used to. I would suggest 2 - 4 short rides less than 30 minutes over the course of a week or two to develop a feel for how to handle the bike in different situations. If you are in a safe area (not on a street) practice doing slaloms (zig zags back and forth) this will help you brain learn the feel of the bike. This is why I recommending up to a two week “learning person”. A E bike can be a fantastic benefit for older riders that cannot ride conventional bikes as well and for them the step through is the best choice - don’t be put off thinking they look like “girls bikes”. If you are able to test ride both types you’ll see why.

This is correct - when you shift gears while stopped you are putting extra strain on the cable and derailleur. Then you are crunching your cassette when pedaling begins. I literally cringed when I saw the section of the video where the host pushed the shifter down to 3, then started pedaling. That crunching sound is damaging the cassette. This is a concern with electric bikes because the motors can prematurely wear down the teeth on the cassette in normal operation. This "Tip" only exacerbates that problem.

The only saftey thing I would like to say is that if you have the step through the pedal is about an inch lower and if you turn with that side down you will scrap and crash, ive done it 3 times. Wish they would have put shorter cranks on to compensate. Lift that leg up on whatever side you turn to and you wont crash and burn.

These were excellent tips Chris.I take advantage of all the features on my Lectric. I’m always switching between gears and pas settings from 0-5 depending on the situation. I keep my chain and derailleur cleaned,oiled and adjusted about every 300 miles just to keep it running and shifting smooth.

Great videos Chris, I think another safety tip to remind people of is do not take a corner with the pedal in the bottom position.IE: never turn right with the right pedal in the lowest position of rotation in case the pedal clips the ground and flips you off your bike. Same thing applies when turning left.

Also, avoid using the pedals while doing a U-turn. When you press on the pedals while attempting to do a U-turn, power is sent to the drive motor giving the bike excess acceleration, and can really throw the rider to an unbalanced situation resulting in a fall. Speaking from experience. Thanks for the helmet I saved myself from a head injury.

I'm a new Lectric rider, and I turned P9 to 1 (throttle disabled) because I kept turning the handle by mistake, like when I was just adjusting my grip. Suddenly the bike just moves and I'd feel like I was on a bucking bronco. LOL. The PAS levels are fine for me. I don't have much trouble starting the bike at all; I start it like I'd start my regular bike. But the tip about using it when needing to cross the street quickly ... hmm that sounds useful.

Great video, we ride our Lectric bikes in P09 at setting 0(throttle active from standstill) and P10 at 1(pedal assist inactive and throttle active) exclusively. This seems to give us the best control over our speed and pedal resistance in different situations and conditions. Good video Chris. Just to give you a suggestion. If you go back and review your video you hear the chain grinding as it is changing gears on the derailer. What you are doing is called dryshifting. Shifting without the bike being in motion. When shifting have the bike moving, shift and ease up on the pedal pressure. Your shifts will be smoother and will reduce wear on gears and derailer. As a class 2 bike , the motor stops pulling at 20mph. After changing from 32 to 100, then the motor pulls a bit more. I set the cruise on max throttle, which is about 20mph, then just turn the pedals over, you.dont have to apply any pressure, and the bike will pull up to.... for me on level ground with a loaded basket, about 24mph. YRMV.

Depends of what ebike you have, for example one of the major competitor of Lectric XP 30 step-thru is Ride1Up Portola, which is not much lighter than 65lbs Lectric but it’s much easier to pedal without assist, and when approching a light grade up I usually speed so using the inertia climb the gradual and lighter grade without el. assist. In the same time it was more difficult to that using 63lbs Velotric Folder 1. 😂😢 . Yrs, the reviewer is very cautions in his advises and way of riding, it’s good but for example doesn’t apply for me, 76-yr rider who takes on higher speed without problem any turn, better right than left BTW, as I did in my bike youth. I’m not sharing that by bragging, simply the video presenter advices even valid really applies to unexperienced riders of all ages, or only fir those who lost a lot of their balance with age or after injury. Have a joyful pedaling..

Sometimes they can. Its a common theme with many ebikes. If that happens take it to a bike shop and have them tune up the brakes.. Keep them clean with rubbing alcohol as well.

Why do you start in gear 3? I would never attempt to take of in a 5-speed vehicle in 3rd gear. Just like in the car, starting in anything but 1st gear will cause you to work harder to get going.

With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

Lol that happened to me also. Came to a stop because my kid stopped in front of me.When I went to scooch off the seat i my shorts got stuck and I flopped right over into a bush. I was looking around embarrassed to see if anyone saw. I now keep my seat much lower. Plus it handles better with a lower center of gravity. I’m still have a lot of fun on my original xp

Takes longer to get all the packing material off than to set up the bike and ride. Read the owners manual first to avoid mistakes and aggravation. After a couple short rides you can find the most comfortable position for handlebars and seat. Bike is heavy so throttle is great to help get bike rolling. Experiment with throttle assist levels and gearing, both have a major effect on ride comfort. I bought a 1.0 two years ago and just upgraded to a 3.0 .

I found out they are not fully water resistant. Their are hidden holes underneath the bottom frame. Water can get inside the frame and under the inside of the seat post and water can get inside where the control box is.

The display is water resistant but yes there are a few hole for wires underneath.

Unless your riding through massive puddles its not a big deal, you can always cover up the hole with some waterproof tape if that worries you.
