I have been using this unit for 2 years and it is outstanding!! I travel and have never slept well in hotels. I'm very noise sensitive and this unit not only blocks out noises (even if I'm close to an airport!) it gives me fan/white noise choices that feel comforting. I am so grateful I found this.

I have tinnitus and get migraines so I keep my bedroom blacked out and keep a fan running all night all year long for white noise. Light isn't good for sleeping anyway. I've read many reports about NOT having clocks that are LED lite because of disturbing sleep. I do keep a very small night light on but I also keep it behind a chair so I don't actually see the light itself. Just enough light incase I need to get up at night without turning on a table lamp.

Juanita Sullivan I have tinnitus (I think, never been to a doctor) my ears ring like I just left an ac/dc concert all the time. I guess I shouldn't have cut my mufflers off and drove with my windows open when I was young and dumb. I haven't had a ceiling fan for years but it ran constantly when I did. I think I might get one of these things
@juanitasullivan33726 жыл бұрын
Julio, The reason I have the fan, (small table fan)is because of my tinnitus. I have that horrible constant ringing and can't sleep without the white noise to drown out the ringing. Where I rent I haven't been able to put in an air conditioner in the summer due to wrong style of windows. Portable a/c's too expensive. Before I moved back to Nova Scotia I lived in southern US states where it was always hot so I ran a/c's all year long. Never needed a/c here. Now with the climate change, a/c is needed. Landlord just had the bedroom window switched out and a/c will go in. But for now I use the fan. I have a backup fan for when the current one dies. LOL. That I will use in the winter.

Good point about what it cannot block. Footsteps in any direction travel well through the floors, walls, ceilings, etc. When your apartment is too close to the elevator, vibrations from the elevator shaft can easily travel into your apartment and the vibrations can be felt in your bed. I had to sleep with Optime Peltor earmuffs for years (really bad apartment), and they block most of the sound that your ears might hear. But they cannot stop shock waves or vibrations. And another thing you made me think of... I do like some of the real sleep sound recordings that you can find on youtube. This machine would take care of those gaps, for example, in a thunderstorm, when the sound abates for a bit. Nice review. Thanks!

But I really missed it when it was turned off. It was way too quiet.

thanks for the review! I'm also highly noise sensitive, and unfortunately also live in a corner house, where i get the noise from 2 streets, plus very noisy next door neighbours. I normally sleep with 2 fan heaters on (on cold - just for the noise, not for heating), but that doesn't always drown out really loud noises from out side. Another problem is, that I can't concentrate or even funtion, like doing normal houswork, or eating a meal, while outside my closed window children shout and scream for hours on end, grown ups make their phone calls (often on loudspeaker). rubbish collection lorries take half an hour banging arround, or supermarket delivery lorries bang their car doors and merchandise arround on the road, (my windows are always closed when those things happen, plus I have 3 fan heaters making a white noise, but it doesn't help), while my next door neighbour has music blaring, or his children or the adults are shouting or screaming through the walls . Would this noise machine really be able to drown out those loud noises?
@LowerMyPressure4 жыл бұрын
Since you are already using fans to mask the noise and it isn't working well for you I doubt the Lectrofan would be any better for you. Unfortunately some of us are hypersensitive to noise. You might want to try some "noise cancelling" headphones" along with your favorite music to see if that helps.
@unavitadellamusica4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply! I'm generally speaking a highly sensitive person, not only to noise. I'm sensitive to heat, touch and some other things, too. Headphones, any kind, I can't have too long on my ears, because my ears get hot from it. Therefore - apart from their really high price for the good ones - I wouldn't be able to wear them all day, or even for few hours in a row, and what would I do, when I want to make phone calls? I would have to take them off anyway. Then I couldn't make the call, because of all the noise again. That's why I wanted a good device like a noise machine, that does all those things, that really good noise cancelling headphones do. Now I thought, that this device you reviewed here would fit the bill, but if you think it doesn't do more, than normal fan noises, I'm rather disappointed, and still looking for something really effective. In case you happen to find something for me, maybe you could let me know? Of course, I'm also looking arround elsewhere myself, but so far unsuccessfully.

I purchased this fan for sound masking in a unit block, its almost a good product but most of the fan sounds have an annoying 'hum' underneath the fan noise at different tones, not sure if they're trying to replicate an electric noise but it really played on my mind mentally, I ended up sending it back. it was handy just being able to switch it on/off though. What I find better is using a bluetooth speaker or something like JBL Link Music and selecting one of the many youtube fan sounds available, they run for 10-hours+, you can select so many samples or apps from the Google Play Store.

I'm very sensitive to noise and live in an apartment with thin walls. How much will the Lectrofan reduce noise from neighbors playing loud music and television, and outside noise? I have to keep a fan on 24/7 even in winter, plus earplugs at night and noise-blocking headphones during the day at home, and some noise still gets through when they really crank up their music, or if someone is using a leaf/snow blower

The speaker faces upward which causes the sound to bounce off of the ceiling, etc. It does a good job of fooling the brain into thinking it's a real fan. That being said, nothing is going to replace the sound of a real fan.

Yes but it can't be placed in the office where the conversation is taking place. Take for instance a doctor that has an exam room next to the waiting room. If a unit is placed in the waiting room, it works well. If it is placed in the exam room, it doesn't work as well. Hope this helps.

I have one of these and run it constantly when my upstairs neighbors are home. Disclaimer- My neighbors are awesome and very considerate people and aren't noisy per se. It's the crappy bldg I live in and it seems like there is 0 insulation. So we hear everything. We can hear them blow their noses! , open and close cabinets, flush the toilet , hear the dishes clanging together as they wash them etc. It's not their fault. But anyway, this machine does mask some it it and can get loud but i still hear them so i also wear Hearos earplugs at the same time. Now my problem is hearing their old built in wall heater when they turn it on at 6 am. It makes this horrible humming sound. I moved the sound machine near the wall as close as i could get it but the plug wasn't long enough. It still woke me up even with ear plugs in. Am gonna have to get extension cord and then TAPE the machine to the wall. We can't move out . It's the cheapest apt we could find and took us a year to find it.

It would block out some of the noise that floats through the air but would not block out any of the noise caused by vibration through the walls/floors/ceilings.

Can it simulate AC? I wish my AC box was in my room. It's the only sound that I don't mind. My neighbors slam their doors and I want to block that out. I hate the noise of fan minus my AC.
@LowerMyPressure7 жыл бұрын
It probably won't have your exact sound of a particular AC unit. Door slamming is a percussive sound that is mostly transferred through structural elements as opposed to floating sound like music and conversations. A sound machine will only block a small portion of door slamming sound. I don't think this machine would be of much help to you under your particular set of circumstances - sorry.

for door slaming, you need to record it then report them to landlord

No link? Because I am finding a LOT of options by that company!
Yes it does muffle snoring to a certain degree. I had a snoring roommate in the next room and I positioned the Lectrofan on my headboard so that it was between the snoring sound and my head. Sometimes I had to turn it up pretty loud to drown out the sound but it did help. If the snoring person is in the same room, it's not going to work. Snoring is the worst - I'm glad he finally moved out! :-)

Darn...going fishing next week and have to room with a guy that snores like a wild hog. Guess i could just sleep in vehicle then. Thanks for the warning

I don’t get how you’d fall asleep to this?! It’s a well loud fuzzing so how do you sleep with this going on??
@LowerMyPressure7 жыл бұрын
Actually it's weird and you wouldn't think it works but it does. The human mind is very good at playing tricks. When we hear conversations or other noises that are inconsistent, we strain to hear what is happening because we are curious by nature. When the sound is blocked out, we can relax and not have to waste the "bandwidth" trying to figure out what these distracting sounds are. At least, that's my take on it.

Does this unit have an AC cord???????? another reviewer stated it only has a USB connection cord which is not convenient to have to move my PC around or other electric devices would rather have one that I can plug into an outlet ?????
@LowerMyPressure9 жыл бұрын
+The Dark Angel It comes with a converter that plugs into a regular wall socket, you can then plug the USB cable into the converter to power the Lectrofan.

LowerMyPressure You said the unit speaker is loud but do you think it's loud enough to fill a reg sized bedroom from across the room of does it have to be within a few feet away for best sound to be loud enough? Thank you so much for your post and answers, better than the feedback on amazon thanks :)
@LowerMyPressure9 жыл бұрын
+The Dark Angel I personally place my unit closest to the sound I want to block out. I live in a condo and noise comes from a common wall that I share with my neighbors. They play their TV late at night and even though they do their best to keep the sound down, I still hear enough to keep me from falling asleep. I place the Lectrofan close to that common wall and turn it up just enough to block out the sound - this way I don't have to turn it up really loud.
@thejupiter25749 жыл бұрын
LowerMyPressure so, as you said the speaker is good enough quality to be LOUD enough without sounding like it's vibrating, it can fill the room or that half by the source then???? Next week, first week I'm trying to get one from Amazon like this one. I hate the environmental sound units and the white noise as I just lay there thinking of what each sound reminds me of ie. a babbling brook and stream only reminds me of a public men's urinal :) :) and rain drops spattering on a window reminds me of bacon frying in a pan :) :) and white noise reminds me of the machine that my mum was on in ICU that's how my mind works :) :) THANKS

+The Dark Angel I would give it a try. Amazon has a really good return policy so you would only be out return shipping cost if you didn't like it. Best of luck!

could this unit mask vibrations or low pitch sounds ?
@LowerMyPressure7 жыл бұрын
Since vibrations are percussive as opposed to a "floating" sounds it probably wouldn't work. You can always get one on Amazon and return it if it doesn't work out but my guess is that it won't make much of a difference.

Has anybody who purchased one of these done a video of how far the noise carries? Every one of the future movie directors record right over the device so a true use in a standard size room is not available.

It's a mixed review. Most of the negative feedback related to it's durability. Max lifespan of this product is just 1+ yr. Can anyone confirm this?

Just get a normal Lectro 30cm fan. Doesnt blow any air even when clean. It really only serves as a white noise machine. $15 bargain.

To be honest those noises are not conducive to sleep or rest. (Unless the fact that this is a youtube video and so sound is not that good). The sounds sound too 'hard'
@gingerisevil027 жыл бұрын
Can this block out neighbors who play their tv too loud? Can it also imitate the sound of AC? That's the only noise I like.
@gingerisevil027 жыл бұрын
Sorry I just realized I already asked about the AC one! I would like to know if it blocked out tv- once I lay down, I can hear my neighbors tv and I'm very noise sensitive. And next year, there will be construction early in the morning, and my neighbors stay up all night :/
@LowerMyPressure7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it does help with TV noise. It won't totally eliminate it but it masks it enough to make a difference. It has many fan sounds, maybe one is close to your AC?
@gingerisevil027 жыл бұрын
LowerMyPressure oh that's good! Sucks cause they also make my bed vibrate, but the sound of the tv combined is just miserable! If it at least covers it up some that will help!

MY NEIGHBOR IS JUST IGNORANT. AS LONG AS I HAVE MY BIG STEEL FAN ON TURNED TOWARDS MY FRONT DOOR TO KNOCK OUT HIS SLAMMING, HE CAN HEAR THE NOISE SO HE DO NOT SLAM HIS DOOR. IF I COME IN MY APARTMENT HE ALWAYS LISTENS AND WATCH ME THROUGH HIS PEEP HOLE. WHEN I COME IN MY APARTMENT, HE HEARS MY KEYS RUNS TO HIS DOOR I KNOW IT BECAUSE I CAN SEE HIS SHADOW FROM UNDERNEATH THE DOOR LIKE I SAID AS SOON AS I ENTER MY UNIT AND THEN SHUT MY DOOR HE OPENS HIS DOOR AND SLAMS IT REALLY HARD BECAUSE HE IS A IGNORANT A HOLE AND HE IS VERY WEIRD. IF I GO TO A NEIGHBORS HOUSE ON THE 2ND FLOOR AND HE HAPPENS TO COME ON THAT FLOOR AND SEE ME KNOCKING ON NEIGHBORS DOOR, HE WILL TURN AROUND AND GO BACK THE WAY HE CAME IMMEDIATELY. HE IS SO WEIRD THAT IT WOULD BE SCARY FOR MOST BUT NOT FOR ME. HE'S MENTAL TO A PUOINT WHEREAS YOU SEE RED FLAGS AND HEAR SAFETY BELLS GOING OFF. I PUT UP WITH HIM ON A DAILY FOR LIKE 5 YEARS. BUT AS LONG AS MY FAN IS ON I CAN HEAR HIM CLOSING HIS DOOR GENTLY AND I WATCH AND SEE HIM CREEPING THROUGH MY PEEP HOLE AS WELL AND MOVING SLOWLY LIKE HE'S UP TO SOMETHING. VERY CREEPY AND WEIRD. BUT HE DONT SCARE ME AND HE NEVER SPEAKS AND ALWAYS KEEPS HIS DOWN OR LOOKING AWAY. IM ALWAYS UP AND ALERT ON HIM AND WHEN LEAVING AND ENTERING MY DOOR. WEIRDO DONT WANNA TRY ME! I WAITING ON ELEVATOR AND GETS OFF AND OPENS THE DOOR SO WIDE SO HE WOULDNT BY PASS ME AND ALMOST PUSHED THAT HEAVY OLD FASHIONED ELEVATOR DOOR THAT SWINGS OPEN ON MY 2 YR OLD NIECE THAT HAPPENED TO BE AT HOUSE. I WAS ALMOST READY TO MAKE A QUICK STRAIGHT LINE FROM FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. LIKE I SAID HE ALMOST CAUSE WHEN I YELLED AT HIM I STOPPED HIM FROM ALMOST SMASHING MY BABY. I REALLY PLAN ON MOVING JUST TO GET AWAY FROM HIM. POLICE CANT DO ANYTHING CAUSE HE HAVENT COMMITTED NO CRIME. AND IM TIRED OF THINKING ABOUT DROWNING OUT NOISE EVERYDAY ON ACCOUNT OF HIM. AND IM TIRED OF HAVING EVIL THOUGHTS BCZ HE IS MESSING WITH ME ON PURPOSE EVEN AFTER I TRIED JUST SAYING HELLO A COUPLE OF TIMES. I FEEL WE ALL GOTTA LIVE TOGETHER SO LETS GET ALONG. BUT THIS FOOL DON'T LET UP! HE SLAMS HIS DOOR, HE LISTENS FOR ME WHEN I LEAVE AND MY RETURN. I BELIEVE HE LISTENS AT MY DOOR WHEN I HAVE MALE COMPANY ALSO BECAUSE MY DOOR IS BY THE STAIR CASE THAT LEADS TO DOWNSTAIRS AND OUT THE BUILDING AND IF U WABT TO WALK UP INSTEAD OF GETTING ON ELEVATOR. I CAN FEEL HIM. WHEN I HAVE COMPANY OVER I GEAR HIM CLOSING HIS DOOR SOFLY😠 IM NOT SCARED BUT UNCOMFORTABLE AT TIMES. I HAVE A RIGHT TO BE HEAR LIKE HE HAS BUT HE IS JUST. HE KIND OF ACT LIKE HE BEEN IN A WAR B4 OR SOME. BUT WHO KNOWS, IM JUST TIRED OF THINKING ABOUT HIM EVERYDAY
