Lecture 1: English 211 Academic Writing About Literature

Course Description:
Welcome to English 211. In this course, we’ll read, discuss, and write about a variety of texts, ranging from poems to longer short stories, as well as film clips.
Your learning goals for this course include:
A. Learning to write analytically about literary texts
(poetry & short fiction),
B. Learning to research materials and synthesize ideas
from scholarly sources, and
C. Learning to develop essays according to the
grammatical, mechanical, stylistic, generic,
documentation, and theoretical conventions
appropriate to academic writing about literature.
