Twelve years ago I had a head injury from car accident. On impact I heard a popping noise on the upper back of my head. MRIs were normal. Now12 years later, I have increased memory loss. More than after accident. MRI showed unspecified parietal lobe atrophy abnormal for my age.

The reason that it is contralateral is that the "wiring" decussates or crosses at different levels either in the spinal cord or brainstem depending on the sensation (also occurs for motor function which crosses over at the level of the pyramids in the medulla)... a quick google search can show the pathways....

+Morton Machir I think he meant that he doesn't know why the pathways should be crossed. Like does the pathway crossing increase the efficiency?

Is it possible to get the links discussed within the video (around 15:00)? That would be awesome.

Im confused: Is the function of the parietal lobe not contralateral? In the story of the man who lost the "sense" of it being his own leg, it was his left leg he lost "sense" of. (the Oliver Sacks case) Should this not be due to a right parietal issue?
