🔻Why this lecture?
Al Aqsa Flood or the 7th of October, a conversation on Resistance with Justin Podur and Jon Elmer, organized by European Palestinian Youth Union in Sweden (EPYU).
Since the 7th of October, we have seen countless reports and articles in the western mainstream media, depicting the events of that day, as a singularly atrocious act of terrorism. Coupled with this, is the total demonization of the Palestinian resistance with the cunning use of the magic word: KHAMAS!
We believe this picture to be intentionally incomplete, and at times, simply incorrect, serving to excuse or flat out justify Israel’s livestreamed genocide in Gaza. That’s why we were compelled to dispel some of the illusions regarding the 7th of October and the Palestinian resistance with the help of our great guests, as getting the correct picture in the right framing is crucial in the fight against this genocide.
🔻About the lecturers Justin & Jon:
Justin Podur is a Toronto-based writer.
He authored multiple books on the US Empire and its interventions abroad. In fiction, Justin is the author of three novels, including Siegebreakers, a novel on Palestinian resistance fighters in Gaza, trying to free their people.
As a fellow in an independent journalist syndicate called Globetrotter, he has previously reported from countries all over the world, including Palestine.
Justin runs the Anti-Empire Project, where he shares his analyses on history and world affairs with his anti-imperialist gaze. Since the beginning of Al Aqsa Flood, he has been doing situation reports in podcast format regularly, often with our other guest Jon Elmer.
Jon Elmer is a Canadian writer and photojournalist specializing in the Middle East and Canadian foreign and military policy. He is a contributing editor at Electronic Intifada. If you have seen any of their regular live streams since the 7th of October, he is the one doing the invaluable military analysis in each episode. Jon has lived in and reported extensively from the West Bank and Gaza Strip - based in Jenin, Bethlehem and Gaza City. Covering such topics as the al-Aqsa intifada, the "disengagement" and siege on the Gaza Strip, the sanctions regime and factional strife in Gaza, and more.
He has photographed and reported from more than a dozen countries.
🔻About European Palestinian Youth Union:
EPYU emerged in 2018 to realize a vision, of a union of palestinian youth in Europe, with the purpose of breaking the cycle regarding Palestine, a cycle of silence, violence, a temporary reaction to that violence and then back to the beginning.
Here in Sweden, EPYU has become one of the main advocates for Palestine, organizing demonstrations and charity events among other things.
Our goal is to unite the palestinian movement in Europe for young Palestinians and friends of Palestine, regardless of political or ideological affiliations, to advocate and fight for Palestinian rights, self-determination and a sovereign independent state of Palestine.
