Thanks for the excellent video on making the acrylic sign. Really appreciate your detailed information on the acrylic milling, and the pointers to the LED standoffs on Amazon. Something I haven't seen before and very cool. Cheers, Ralph

I must have missed this one when it was first put up on You Tube. Great tutorial and the sign came out great also. I was curious as to what stop-over was used on the V-bit pocket. Thanks!
@LakesCabinetry2 жыл бұрын
Hi @daryncashmark6518, we had a stepover of .008 or 80% of the flat diameter of the engraving bit. Thanks for watching!

Any links here to the LEDs?

What stepover are you using for the V-carve to get a consistent surface without lines?
@shopsabre Жыл бұрын
You always want to use the smallest step over you can afford to do for time -- the smaller the step the better the finish but the longer the cut time.

I am not understanding where the light is coming from, the side of the mounts?
@shopsabre Жыл бұрын
The light comes from the edge, there is a LED light we installed in the base and it shines through the piece and reflects off the engraving.
@JCraftvfx Жыл бұрын
how deep did you carve in the vbit text?
@shopsabre Жыл бұрын
You have to go at least 1/16th but depth is more personal preference because as soon as you break surface it will begin to show light reflection

Why not use a straight bit for the lettering instead of the v-bit? I've never made an led sign before.
@shopsabre2 жыл бұрын
Light projection is based on the lines created by the tooling. With a straight cutter you get less bounce.

Is the V bit faster than a diamond drag bit?
@shopsabre2 жыл бұрын
There is two sides to this answer, it most definitely can be depending the project
@shopsabre2 жыл бұрын
One if for surface etching, one is for engraving, so speed comparing depends on the application, material, etc.

What was the name of the device you guys used for the led?
@shopsabre2 жыл бұрын
If you search LED standoff acrylic lights on amazon you should see them, the brand we ordered is called Topnike.
