The 5th short note trick was used also in a big quantity of NES games Tim and Geoff Follin worked in.

I get white noise on every NDR that starts with a note that uses the noise generator. Fine with the DAW file. It's something that I hope Gari fixes with an update.

I got really excited about the Speccy Next after I backed it on kickstarter, so I might upload a bit more from now on, love testing the limits of the 8 bit micros

My favourite Tim Follin track is Agent X (the first one).

Agent X I and II are my fav music on the speccy to - I was thinking of doing these on the next, but I wonder if they'll loose the 'dirtiness' that comes from the 1 bit sound Follin was a master of. Tell you what, I reckon they'd sound great as an acid jazz remix or something like that, might get onto that one day.

Regarding the white noise, I have had issues a few times on NDR export, I think it's a problem with the sound drivers. I've had to fiddle with instruments to make it sound correct.

Did having the six channels make it easier to recreate? Are there any parts that left you wondering how Tim did it with only one AY Chip to play with?
@RJB_music4 жыл бұрын
Good questions - two things I couldn't get sounding right without the extra channels were the snare drum, and the bass sound that fades in with the high notes on top at 1:19. I think I've just got to experiment with the snare drum to get it sounding better (putting it and the bass line on the centre channel will be a good start), but I've no clue how he did that bass sound - anyone got any idea?

It always sounded to me like he was exploiting a glitch in the chip at that point. There’s something not quite right about it.
