The final amazing thing about this song is how much it was despised by the critics. It's from their first album, and from the first NOTE, the critics just _hated_ Led Zeppelin. They called them decadent, that they were desecrating the blues, it was a travesty. It was almost across the board, maybe one or two guys thought they were okay. This was on _both_ sides of the pond. _(Rolling Stone_ would not stop slagging on them.) Zeppelin is an incredible success story because they became the biggest band in the world despite having almost no support from the rock critics. Instead, they toured incessantly, over and over, starting with vans and ending up with their own plane, and they won over the world through sheer force of will and their presence. They just kept at it, and got the gold ring.

I might be mistaken but I believe that's how they chose their band name as well. A critic from one of their early shows wrote that it "went over like a lead zeppelin." Not a very nice thing to say about a band in case you're too young to get the reference.

The same critics who said the beatles were the best rock band in the world i dont think you can catergorise them as a rock band more like progressive pop Also was it pete townsend or keith moon who disliked led zeppelin because of the type of music they were producing then the same guys later admitted they hated led zeppelin because they were more famous and better than them which was true then and is still true now

They were heavily influenced by southern blues music. Later they also incorporated tribal music into their catalog. The drummer is considered one of the top drummers of all time, the late John Bonham. Jimmy Page is the guitar god, John Paul Jones was a master bass guitar maestro and Robert Plant was given the voice of what I would imagine an angel would sound like. No disrespect to the Beatles but Zepp is my favorite musicians to come out of the UK, hell they are my favorites from anywhere.

EXCELLENT choice for intro to Led Zeppelin. When they do that song live, it can last for up to almost 30 minutes depending on how the vibe is going on stage. I don't seem to recall Led Zeppelin ever releasing a bad song . Keep in mind, they were only around for 10 or 12 years and they released music that sounded like this. Some harder tracks, some folky tracks, all soul and blues, great guitar and a great rhythm section. Inspiring generations of rock and metal bands to pick up instruments over the past 50 years.

They started as a very blues-inspired band, but then they took it to a whole other level. Robert Plant (singer) was 18 when they did this album. Watch this song live!!
@laurettelaliberte88646 жыл бұрын
but the band was put together by Jimmy Page to fulfill the remainder of his contract from the Yardbirds, who disbanded. John Bonham was the drummer, I believe he was 17 or 18 on this album, which was recorded in like days. Their second album came out 8 moths later, I believe.

Robert plane wasn't 18. He was 21 when recording led Zeppelin 1.

I am 66 years old, I was around when Led Zepplin kicked off, Jimmy Page was a massively successful session guitarist, he played on lots of hit singles by very popular groups as The Troggs, The Kinks, and a host of others, too numerous to mention and I have forgotten most of them now. You should watch him talking about their most famous track, Stairway to Heaven, he tells you how he constructed the tune and it is really a musical education. He was with the Yardbirds with possibly one of the most incredible guitarists since Hendrix, Jeff Beck. The Yardbirds were going nowhere and then Jimmy got in with Robert Plant and John Bonham(drummer, died after a massive drinking session some years ago.) and John Paul Jones who can be seen playing with Seasick Steve these days, another great guitarist from America that you guys didn't appreciate, he's gone down big time over here and he is nearly 70 years old. I watched your reaction to this tune and man I could feel it, In get very involved when listening to this stuff, I grew up listening to the best musicians around, I was a teenager in the 1960s and we had the BEST weed and stuff back then, how we enjoyed listening to great stuff like this, try Spoonful by Cream on the Wheels of Fire album, it is a live 16 minute opus that will curl your toes, the jam in the middle will mess with your head and heart, try it out. Meanwhile check this out, another 1960s band called Blodwyn Pig, an offshoot from Jethro Tull kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5OyqKCMfKuWas0

Keep exploring man, this is a real experience.
